Loved it.
It stayed impeccably new looking so that when I sold it in 2014 when moving interstate it still looked and worked perfect.
Lady who bought it off me said it was the best fridge she'd ever owned :-)

- Our only problems were food freezing on top shelf when items placed next to air outlet, but no problem if items are kept clear of this vent, and the plastic veggie bins cracked.
- It appears our electronic module box has failed along with the de-frost heater element in freezer department - the cost of repair (approx. $500) goes a long way to buying a new fridge; so that's what I am going to do - purchase the latest model - a F&P E522BLE - incidentally, the cost is exactly the same as 10 years ago - $1350!

So Spacious
After seeing my daughters I knew that when my old fridge was of no use anymore I was going to go out and buy this model which I did immediately. I love this fridge its so spacious, and very easy to clean. It has everything that Ive ever wanted in a fridge and never had. Lots of room in the door, and good freezer space as well.
inexpensive for the size, efficient

Very Reliable
I've had this fridge/freezer for 8 years, bought new. It has never had a problem with keeping food, never frozen up. It has even been through serving as a fridge for boarders (who were students!) when I moved out of the house for a 2 year period while traveling. Never let me down. Very happy with the purchase. Always adequate storage for me, even when children joined the equation. Just recently on occasion the light doesn't come on, but if I thump the area near it, it does, probably needs a look at, but as its a rare occurrence I'm not that bot...Read more

Simple and big
I love this fridge- its inside is spacious and not over run with silly compartments no one uses that end up with unseen mouldy food. I love the 3 drawer bottom freezer, it's huge, I have a family of 5 and the freezer can accommodate everything easily. I don't need an iced water dispenser or other gadgets like that, just space and that's what this gives me.
The interior is spacious and not taken over with silly compartments no one uses. I can see everything! Love a bottom freezer, it's huge, I have a family of 5 and the freezer can accommodate everything easily.
Vegie drawer slide area a bit hard to clean, but minor issue

Good fridge, terrible customer service
No problems with fridge but when it needed a replacement part (after 10 years), customer service was terrible and would be a disincentive to buying another FP product. They can only offer a 5 hr window to come and do the service (7am - 12noon, 12noon - 5pm). Took a day off work, service technician came, was there for 2 mins and said he needed to order a part and come back, charged $135 call out charge. Took second day off work, followed instructions for defrosting fridge 24 hrs before but when technician came, the fridge was still too frosted u...Read more

[censored word removed] Product
I replaced my Westinghouse after 20 years of faithful service with the Fisher & Paykel. It's lasted 18 months before breaking down. I was advised by a friend who was an appliance salesman not to ever buy Fisher & Pakel but still went ahead and bought it mainly because I couldn't get any other brand straight away in the size I wanted. I now have to wait 9 days before a repairman can even get to look at it.
Buer beware I wish I'd checked this website before buying.
Size, bottom up.
Reliability, noisy

Good warranty service but lousy engineering or what?
Bought this fridge 522 upside down when my 32 year old Hitachi could not be re-gased April 12. Within 5 months the underside of top drawer in freezer had frost all over, thick enough to stop it opening. Sent for tech and he looked and took it out cleaned it - 5 months later again same thing -this time rang F&P and they said would replace it - wonderful service. But 19 days after the 2nd new fridge was installed March 13 - same old problem noticed same place too, had tech out, looked and left. Then brought a F&P man to check and he said would r...Read more
eplace the door. Did that 2 weeks later thought fine - then within a few weeks noticed the frost was building up same place this new one too. so now will once again get local tech out - F&Py did restart the warranty - good of them - but AFAIK by asking no one checked the original to see why it frosted up. Will see what happens this time - I have waited to see if I was being picky but now drawer is sticking and frost is really thick in my frost free freezer. So will once again go the warranty route. Because I cant buy a frost free then have to spend the next however long it last defrosting it. I also have one of their duel fuel ovens which is first rate and a vertical freezer which has had a replacement part and now 8 years old. I am not going to be happy this time around I am sure as if they just clean off the frost once again and then say wait - I will ask for refund or a replacement of a different model and with up top freezer because something has to be wrong with 2 in my house going wrong when my old one sat in place for 10 of its 32 years with no problems except 1 new lot of gas in all that time. And I don't put hot things in any part or spill water up on the bottom of a drawer as one tech asked. Good service but something lacking here methinks - was impressed to start with. Now will wait and see and let you know. Would I buy F&P again - yes but not this freezer on the bottom again has to be a design or engineering fault to my lay womans mind. Fridge part is well lit and arranged and workable so happy Freezer frosts up. Door hits toes when opening unless well to side.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

You expect a fridge to last longer than five years.
We purchased this fridge about five years ago. A few weeks back we noticed several fine horizontal cracks has appeared in the plastic at the rear of the fridge. The plastic seems to be deteriorating.
I photographed the damage and sent it to Fisher and Paykel. Their initial response was 'suspected chemical damage' and the offer to send a service person out to have a look at it, for which I would be required to pay $135.00. I asked the person on the end of the phone if I was wasting my money. Was there any possibility they would replace the f...Read more
ridge? I was told that while they certainly couldn't give any guarantees without someone seeing it (fair enough) that option was a possibility. I was fairly confident. I only ever use microfibre cloths to clean my fridge. If the damage was caused by chemicals they must have come into contact with the fridge before I owned it. I agreed to pay for the service call. I very nice technician arrived, complimented me on the excellent condition of the fridge, advised that it was clearly some kind of manufacturing problem and nothing I had done would have caused this damage. He also noted that the damage was concentrated on both sides of the plastic at the centre of the fridge and not evenly distributed (as you would expect with chemical damage). He had a poor phone line to Fisher and Paykel but told me they had authorised something, and I should expect to either get a new fridge (hooray) or a new fridge with a requirement to pay a pro rata amount based on the life of my fridge. He said, 'typically something like $50 per year". To his credit, he also refused to ask me to pay for the service call, saying "I'm not charging a customer $135 to LOOK at a fridge!" I wasn't thrilled with the idea of paying $300 to $350 to replace a fridge that was faulty, but I figured this was better than nothing, and I was out of warranty.1 comment

Fisher & Paykel E522B Icing up not cooling
We've had this fridge second hand for approx four years or so. Bought it with the house. We replaced the fan once which circulates the air from the freezer compartment up to the fridge part. No big problem. For the amount of money we paid second hand it has been a great fridge and very large, I estimate approx 370-380l for the fridge compartment. Total Gross volume is listed as 519l and Total Storage Volume as 454l. Does what a fridge is meant to do.
What we have found is that it is sensitive to icing up which means the fridge compartment st...Read more
ops cooling whilst the freezer compartment still works. What we found was this was purely due to the fridge not being at the right level. The technician told us that it has to lean back slightly so the door automatically shuts. At this slight lean it has not ever frozen up again. If it does you need to turn it off for 24 hours whilst the cooling duct defrosts. size, cooling, inexpensive very sensitive to leveling, will ice up if not leaning back slightly1 comment
I haven't read all of the reviews but maybe the older build models like ours were of better quality than the more recent models? Perhaps cost cutting and economies of scale has led to some variations in performance.

Fridge/freezer died
Having owned our previous fridge/freezer for 22 years we were shocked when after 7 and 1/2 years our appliance leaked gas and the fan stopped working. We were told by Fisher and Paykel it could not be repaired. The mechanic even said his fridge at home was not a F & P!
Bottom mount freezer
Obviously very poor quality and no longevity

Best Fridge Ever Owned!
Love the ease with which you can clean the stainless steel fridge!
Temperature works very well, drawers easy to wipe out.
Never had a problem after 5 years still going strong- great storage areas- well thought out.
I have the E522BRX and think it runs very quietly compared to all my other fridges.
Timing beeper is great when the door has been left open by the kids!
Highly recommend.
Stylish. It works without a hiccup 5 years on!
Smaller compartments at the bottom to separate fresh foods!

Great Design.......Noisy fridge
As stated by others. The design of this fridge is fantastic. Even after going to the supermarket and unpacking there is still room to spare. It looks good in an open plan kitchen, however as soon as we switched it on we were disappointed with the noise it makes. If you have a separate kitchen to your living area, then it's not a problem if you have an open plan area like ours.......you might like to look at other brands.
Design, spacious
Very noisy compressor!

omers come in with fear of noise so I plug the fridge in for them. Nearly every time they find it negligible. F/P has adaptive defrost and only defrost when they need to. They also learn your habits of using the fridge and defrost when you are not normally around so less noise again. Maybe the fridge has a fault? It would be good of you to measure its decibels and ring cust care on 1300650590. They should be able to resolve this issue for you. If you want to compare its noise levels against other fridges you can go online and research it further if you care. Nice to hear your further review or info re this problem.Similar opinion? The X3 model is noisy
I like this fridge a lot. Quality is good. Design is excellent. Versitility is perfect. And the LED light is bright (even though the light has less than 80% CRI which make things look washed out). All fine, all except the noise level. it sounds like there are bottles ratling around inside the fridge. but it doesn't come from the contents, it is the generator. I have a big house and can hear it over from the other side at night time. A real shame.
Good design and quality feel inside.
Noisy noisy noisy.

Yes it would definitely be helpful to have a high CRI rated bulb for food! But that is probably just a matter of getting the right LED bulb for it with a high CRI?
Yep having had 522E in 14 months - both noisy for new fridges.

Piece of no good fridge
This fridge is the greatest piece of rubbish ever offloaded to the public, we know a lot of other people who also feel the same way as us, consequently everyone we know calls them funny names. We have a written request for the CEO of FP to phone us about their poor products.....no answer and dont expect one.
I would realy like to debate FP about their faulty products on national tv, doubt if they would show up though.
Broke down the second week we had it, FP fixed it with a second hand part that failed as well, spent around $1000 over 5 years keeping the piece of rubbish going, all with no help or customer service from FP

Our FP freezer has a very noisy fan. Their technician said we had to learn to ignore the noise. I think the freezer has a faulty fan housing.

Its been good
We bought our E522B second hand about 10 years ago and it has been moved through 3 different houses in that time and it has worked perfectly the whole time we have had it. I have found you need to adjust the temps up and down for summer and winter but it has never stopped working, never frozen over or let food go off. Ive been very happy with it.
The only reason im replacing it is we need a bigger fridge.
Reliable, always did what we asked of it
Plastic shelve (whilst they have never broken) feel flimsy

We have spent many happy years together.
I love this fridge. It is so spacious and easy to clean. There are plenty of door storage and shelving. The kids dropped a jar on the top plate of the freezer and I called the Fisher and Paykle customer care line. I was do well looked after that I have decided to source Fisher Paykle products wherever possible.
Reliable. Excellent customer service.

Not happy
This is the noisiest fridge i have ever owned. I have now had it for over a year and it still wakes me up in the middle of the night with its loud popping noises. Its absolutely terrible. I do not recommend others to purchase this. I cannot believe some people have made positive comments about this item.

Reliable - 8 years and counting
We're very happy with our F & P fridge. Had this model from new for about 8 years now without a single fault. In the last year we have had some horrendous power interruptions, one extended brown-out that I recall for about 30 seconds, but the fridge always returns to normal operation when the power is restored, so very robust electrical design in my opinion. The other thing that amazes me is the strength of the all glass shelves. They have had tremendous hits and bangs over the years and not a single crack in any of them. I would definetely buy...Read more
an F & P fridge again (but this one looks good for another 8 years). The main top door hinge is also excellent. We always have 10 -15 kg of juice and milk in the door and the hinge has never made creeking noises or dropped out of alignment. No sign of rust on the external faces, still looks good as new. Faulty fridge. Worst appliance I've had.
We bought this fridge in May 2008. It developed what they called a gas leak and needed to be repaired December 2009. December 2011 it developed another "gas leak" and needed to be repaired again. Fast forward to October 2012 - the fridge is just over 4 years old - and it needs another repair as it's not staying cold. I'll be on the phone to consumer affairs tomorrow as a fridge that's 4.5 years old and cost nearly $2000 shouldn't fail 3 times.
Attractive design
Low build quality.

Hi,
I bought this fridge about 3 years ago. I have been very pleased with it ever since.
An alarm would sound to remind you that the door hasn't been properly shut but recently, as soon as you open the top door of the fridge it begins to beep continuously until you touch the active smart button inside the fridge or until you shut the door. This is abnormal. How can I correct this?
