Overall good quality 5.5 years old still going
Love the design, look and features of this fridge.
The compartments and storage is generous.
Have had this since April 2014 and it has not failed once. The only issue is the left door flange does now close properly but it can be easily resolved by manually push it as you close the door. I see this is a common issue.
Otherwise, highly recommend this fridge.
Purchased in April 2021 at The Good Guys for $1,965.00.

Problems 2 12yrs old
You get a 2yr warranty and then the trouble starts. We had water under the fridge which ruined the wooden floor so had been leaking for awhile. We pulled out cleaned up cleared the tube at the back. Now buzzer goes off 20 times with the spanner showing. Phoned Fisher & Paykel would be a $148 call out fee plus parts. Have phoned Fair Trading recommend going back to the supplier. If no go there put forms into Fair Trading. Would not advise buying a Fisher $ Paykel appliance. Must say has been okay until last few months. We have had other brand fridges last 15yrs.

Bad customer service or I have a 2000$ cupboard in my kitchen
Is it bad to compare services? I think not. Household appliances fail. They do. When Bosch send the technician in less then a week. On 3 occasions. You feel valued customer. When Bose offers you a replacement straight away and after warranty you tell everyone! When Phillips fails to deliver - you don't buy Phillips. When Nespresso fails you twice - you go back to stove coffee maker.
Our Fisher & Paykel Active Smart 522ADX4 fridge failed. It happens. It is under extensive warranty. To wait for over 10 days to speak to someone!! 20 days for so...Read more

Great fridge!
A little concerned about reviews pre and post purchase as we've never had a problem with this fridge. The fruit and veggie crisper are fantastic- produce lasts a lot longer than with our previous fridge. We've had this almost two years and very happy. highly recommend this product- looks great too!

Works well,
Temperature control is good. Relatively evenly spread throughout compartment.
One mechanical issue with in when delivered, but sorted quickly by F&P.
Easy to clean not too many nooks and crannies to get into.
The Freezer drawer is a little clunky in that is doesn't slide freely, you need to keep pushing it.

Very noisy
From the start of purchase this 519L model has been making a strange vibrating/buzzing noise. Its extremely irritating and I would not recommend this fridge to anyone. Its just very disappointing to have to put up with this noise maker and would return it immediately if I could. The price of this fridge was not cheap so therefore I expected it to be of good quality. But not so, really makes me angry!

Update on first review
Update from first review, New Year's Eve 2016
Four requests for manager to contact us but no call.
Believe freezer door had been left open a small amount.
No alarm was activated so door left open all night causing the compressor to go crazy.
This apparently shortens the life of compressor.
Finally rang f and p after they did not reply to our emails to be told the door can stay open up to one inch without the alarm being activated.
This makes no sense as when open only a little it is not easy to see.
In their booklet it states 'freezer door left open the alarm will beep after 60 seconds' no mention must be more than one inch.
All food in freezer went sloppy and told it is my fault.
Worried about damage/life of fridge.

three calls in just over one year, no customer care.
First the door flaps on fridge failed, sounds like same problem as previous reviewer.
Next the hinge on bottom of one door fridge snapped off
Now day before new year long week end and fridge making a very loud rattle, everything in freezer gone sloppy.
Rang, no help so asked for manager, assured me she would sort it and be straight back to me, rang hour later as no return call to be told all managers had gone home. The phone then drops out? Rang third time and was simply informed a service call for 7 days time is all they can do.

Happy for a while till small problems..but inconvenient
Loved it for a while..then..door hinge...plasic.. dropped to floor...4 weeks later...spring from centre flap fell to floor making it difficult to close..had to manually hold flap in place. Now condensation on lower door of a morning...door seals ..very thin ones folding back and not sealing...
Motor continually o ...have to hold in place when closing. What will happen when May comes around..essentually I will have to pay for substandard parts. Other fridge 12yrs old...still working well...n see ver a problem...this one made cheaply!

Really Good.
Upgraded to a bigger fridge and wanted a french door one. Decided to go with this after comparing a few different models. Also went without the built in ice/water function as that seems to cause problems regardless of the make.
Very happy with the size of the fridge and love the double doors. Freezer is a good size and love the quick chill option for drinks. Can fit plenty of stuff in the fridge and is great for when entertaining.
Definitely recommended.

Love the look and space
I'd wanted a French Door fridge for ages and I wasn't disappointed when we finally got this home.
We've had this fridge for about 10 months now without any problems.
Great that you can mute the door alarm if you're unloading groceries.
Other reviewers don't like the freezer door - while it is firm and you can hear the rollers, it hasn't been all the much of a problem to us. If you are going to buy one, make sure you try it in the store to make sure you're happy with it.
The fridge weighs a lot - so plan for getting it upstairs or through doors before you purchase it.

Very happy
We've owned this now for 3 weeks. We were hoping to be able to get a french door fridge, but our space wasn't quite big enough for the full size double door fridges - so it was great to find this one. Although it is smaller than others - it is huge compared to our old fridge and more than enough for our 3 kid family.
We haven't had any problems - it is whisper quiet and looks great. Great wide shelves and lots of space in the doors for big milk bottles and OJ. The freezer design works for us - the extra drawer makes it easier to organi...Read more
ze bags of frozen vegies and smaller things. The smaller width doors work really well in our open plan country kitchen - as they take less space when you open them - and you can access the fridge from both sides. I like the bottle chill feature which sets of an alarm after you put a bottle in the freezer to chill - so you don't forget it and let it freeze.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Difficulty with freezer drawer
Really disappointed with freezer drawer opening and closing function. Heavy to open and close, rough and noisy. Friends cant believe that there is not a problem but the service guy assures me it was designed that way. I hope they redesign their roller system as it is really awkward to open and close and sounds like it is about to seize.
Also the model number is very difficult to get to once the fridge is installed.
In summary, apart from the top fridge section, not a very user friendly design.

Won't ever buy a F&P fridge again
We upgraded our F&P fridge 2 weeks ago. There was nothing wrong with our old one which was over 10 years old. We just liked the look of the new French door unit. After 12 hours of a cracking ice noise we opened the doors to find all the unit lights were red and the fridge was no longer working. 100's of dollars worth of frozen food spoiled. To top it off we have to wait 4 days to hear from a serviceman and live out of an esky.
The aesthetics, the space
Poor customer service, unreliable

terrific
WE needed to replace our 18 year old noisy side by side refrigerator and looked around for many months trying to decide on a replacement. We selected the french door because it was least intrusive in our galley kitchen. the RF522ADX4 is brilliant. The design allows access to all parts of the compartment. lighting is great as is the adjustable shelving- especially for fitting in Christmas ham and pavlova. Freezer is spacious and easy to get items out of,It is also very efficient and quiet.
Design and quietness
doors need to be fully manually closed but after a week it is not even thought about

I haven't had that problem.
Rudi K.Fisher & Paykel
It is very difficult to make an accurate diagnosis of the specific cause without the benefit of inspecting your appliance.
If you would like to arrange a technician to attend to your refrigerator, you can call our 24-hour Customer Care Centre on 1300 650 590 and a Customer Representative will assist you with service in your area.
Alternatively, you can search for service in your area by using our online locator at the following link:
http://www.fisherpaykel.com/au/support/service-appliances#request-a-service
If there is a Fisher & Paykel technician in your area, a form will be generated which you can complete to submit a service request using our online booking facility. Otherwise, the locator will provide you with the contact details for the Authorised Service Centre(s) near your area.
Not my problem but should be checked if in warranty..then again it should last being an expensive fridge. My niece had that problem and fridge was changed over ..no questions asked but that was a while ago.

Partly pull out the freezer draw and you will find it at the bottom right corner of the unit. Stupid place to hide it. I had the same problem. Good Luck.

Fisher & Paykel technician to arrange a time to fix the problem.. In a few days was fixed. Going by other reviews we checked wire on top of door left hand side but no break. Wire was broken bottom of flap. Sounds like there is a manufacturing problem. Has turned my family off buying any Fisher & Paykel products. If want to turn beeping off you hold top 2 buttons fridge and bell plus the + button all together for 4seconds, a red candle will appear top right hand corner but no light in fridge but you have a peaceful fridge when opening until can be fixed.
