Not very effective
This review is for the Homedics AT-100, ie the previous model. 3 speeds with timer and no ioniser. From day one this air purifier did not impress me. It is super noisy and filters air to a minimal extent and barely helps to alleviate my allergy symptoms. I used it in the bedroom and it cleared the air to a certain extent but in regards to pollens and dust and other allergens it has been useless, as I wake up with a lot of congestion. Upon some research found out that this model does not have an ioniser, where my previous did. There lies part of...Read more
the answer. I was told a salt lamp help ionise the air and used it in conjunction with the air filter, this has helped. So if you own this model it is greatly improved by using a salt lamp. This model does not have an activated charcoal filter so it does not filter ours smoke or dust? I toss through the night and wake up in the morning all congested. I run the air purifier for a couple of hours before going to bed and switch it off once I go to bed as it is extremely noisy. It helps minimally but what helps more is keeping the doors closed when its windy. The air filter inside is a basic HEPA filter and thats it. Theres nothing much to the unit just a fan and filter inside. There is a replacement indicator for filter but I've never seen it go on and run this unit a lot. I would not recommend this unit.Purchased in May 2021.

I've had more health problems while using this device than before, fobbed off by support
I purchased a Homedics AP15AU Air Purifier brand new a few weeks ago, but have had health side-effects since using it. I originally purchased it to clean the air in my small apartment, the first day using it it gave off a 'plasticy' smell for quite some time, which I was told was normal for first time use.. Upon putting it in my bedroom and running it for a couple of hours I developed a tight chest, blocked sinuses and very irritated throat. I thought that perhaps it was coincidence and that I may just be coming down with something, I shut it o...Read more
ff and the tight chest, blocked sinuses and irritated throat eventually went away.. I started the unit up two days later and the exact same things occurred.. I contacted their support page on Facebook, only to be told to 'go see a doctor' and that they hadn't heard of that happening with their machines before. They did ask me for the four digit date code from the bottom of the unit, I sent them the info but have heard nothing further back from them.... An Air Purifier is supposed to 'clean' the air, and you can't get sick from 'clean air' so obviously something is going on with the unit. I followed the instructions for installing the HEPA filter and carbon filters perfectly.. Based on this experience I can't recommend the unit, and I consider the $100+ I paid for the unit to be a total waste of money.Purchased in November 2021 at 247deals_au for $116.05.

It works
I bought it after talking to my doctor about my allergies.
For its price, it is very effective at minimising the allergens in the air. I run it for a couple hours in my bedroom at night, or when the central heating is on.
As others have mentioned, it sounds like a loud fan. I usually run it before bedtime and turn it off and it's working so far.
Purchased in July 2021 at The Good Guys for $70.00.

Effective and filters easily replaced.
This product is basically a HEPA filter in front of a fan. We use it at night for white noise while sleeping and change the filter every few months. It collects a surprising amount of dust. It is easily operated and filter are easily replaced.
Purchased in August 2021.

Noisy
I purchased the medium air purifier yesterday because I had developed an allergy to my kitten and wanted it to help minimise dander which was causing the allergy. I have already noticed a significant difference in the quality of air and my allergy symptoms seem to have gone already. Only downfall is that it’s very noisy - it’s louder then my ceiling fan going at full speed. If I knew it was going to be this noisy I wouldn’t have purchased this.
Purchased in February 2021 at Officeworks for $229.00.

Strange design features
Two features of the AP25AU Homedics True Hepa Air Purifier which I would describe as being bad design are, firstly you have to switch the purifier off twice. Repeatedly it has happened that I have switched it off and after a while noticed it is still running. So I switch it off a second time, and it goes off. Pressing the off switch the first time only switches off the little light! This gets quite annoying.
Secondly it is normal proceedure to place appliances up against the wall so they take up the least amount of room. But you can't do that ...Read more

Smell of the chemical, or plastic coming from the air coming from the unit is so bad
We found the unit gave off a terrible chemical/plastic smell that we were unable to continue running it, we initially thought that maybe it was just because it was new, but even after a few hours the smell continued, very disappointed in this product at this moment in time.

Very noisy
It does the job, but it is very noisy. I will be looking at something else after using AP25AU for a few nights. What's the point of having your air cleaned if it is impossible to sleep with the unit in the room operating on the lowest level? Sounds like an old fan that got out of grease and not balanced properly so also vibrates.

Long time user of Homedics. True HEPA filter. Does the job.
Replaced our old unit with the same brand.
Design looks better.
Not as noisy like its predecessor
No remote control like the old model - we found this useful so we hope they bring this back.
So why did we stick to this brand?
Family members are either asthmatic, have chronic allergies (hay fever) and we’ve found it effective to breathe easy.
Filter available and decently priced under 40.00 - affordable. Don’t need to change that frequently.
Proper way to use it is to close the doors and windows for optimal results to purify the air i...Read more

Sleeping better + filters air
Quite bulky compared to what was expected however works all the same. Sleeping better with this in the room. The filter seems quite thin and unsure of its performance compared to others out there. The whisper quiet advertised is not silent and it may bother some who find it hard to sleep with background noise, no matter how low.. it is still the sound of a small fan.

Fresh air for the family!
Ensures nice clean air and peace of mind. Able to filter 0.3micron particles for a large room >20m sq.
Great for families with babies, stuffy rooms without much ventilation. Gets rid of stale air quickly. Filters odours too.
Filter change is said to be about 3-6 monthly and cost about $20-30 dollars.
Got this on eBAY whilst on 20% off tech.
