I quite like it!
I received this air purifier as part of the ambassador program. I have to say it couldn’t have come at a better time. I live in an area that’s constantly smokey from the nearby bushfires, we’ve been trying to keep the house closed up so we don’t have such bad air inside but some seems to get it anyway.
In my family we have 2 who suffer with asthma, the smoke has been quite a problem for my daughter especially. Just before receiving this we had bought one of those cheap little air purifiers from a chemist, it did the job but it seemed to work ...Read more
quite slowly, taking hours to clear a room and we had to cover the gap under the door to keep it completely clear. Once I got this Dyson I swapped the generic one in her room for this and turned it on before she was due home from her grandmothers place, not only did it work a lot faster but we didn’t have to wait hours for it to clear the room again if someone had to open to the door for a minute! Before she came home I tested it in my significantly larger room, it’s the kind of thing thats hard to notice if it’s working... until you leave the room! Sit in a room with this for an hour then walk into the rest of the unfiltered house where it smells of smoke the minute you leave the room, then you know it’s working. One last situation I found it useful for, my teenaged son’s room, I don’t know if he’s forgetting to brush his teeth or just having some teenage hormones rapidly multiplying in his sleep, but lately, every time his door opens in the morning, a terrible smell emerges, I gotta walk around spraying the hall with glen 20.Purchased in January 2021.

love ! great for my dust allergy & the dreadful bushfire smoke.
i rent a crappy 1970s apartment block (bad air.) in albert park, melbourne.
and we cant have split systems-owners corp. says aesthetic reasons.
so ive tried a few different brands of portable air purifiers ( i.e beurer lr200/cli-mate ap20 )
They were ok but unfortunately still audible when sleeping.
This week i received delivery of the Pure Cool Me (P.C.M) and noticed a profound improvement in the quality of the filtration - thankyou Dyson. And its silent on the lower settings : )
( the only criticism is the remote is hard to read at night-is grey symbols on the sliver-grey background.)
other than that i am so happy that I can breathe easy without distress- that is priceless.
- now i want another one for my study : )
Purchased in January 2021 at Dyson for $399.00.

Helpful for small spaces
The Dyson Pure Cool Me is a smart fan that has a HEPA filter - but no visible moving blades. When opening the box it is a single piece unit, with the Remote and Power cable separate. The HEPA filter is pre-installed in the machine, but it is quite easy to take the top off to access this. The remote is simple and has all necessary controls for the machine - fan speed, on/off, oscillation on/off and information. The information button toggles between the fan speed and the status of the filter, it does not do any more complex analysis of the air q...Read more
uality like it's bigger brother the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool. With the Gunmetal/Copper colouring that we had, the remote is quite difficult to read in lower lighting, as the printing on the remote is in white. If the buttons were gunmetal instead of the copper colour, it would be a lot easier to read! I struggle terribly to see the buttons in dimmer light. At the end of the day, this device is basically a complex desk fan but the focused air coming out of it has been filtered - and this is a very nifty little feature, whereby you can change the position of the airflow simply through moving the top of the fan at the touch of a finger. But when you are in a larger room, as soon as you move positions you are in unfiltered air, which is not as useful if you have allergies (or, in the recent months, the presence of significant amounts of bushfire smoke). I in fact did not like the air from the Dyson Pure Cool Me directly on me so I did not find this an issue, but I could see how it might affect someone who would prefer to remain in the stream of HEPA-filtered air. As it does not do the analysis of particulate matter being filtered you don't have an auto mode, so you simply have to select a fan speed and let it work. It does work well as a personal fan, but it is ideally suited to a small room (no more than 4m x 4m), where it is able to filter all the air in the room rather than just filtering the small amount that it is blowing out. I have found it does well in my young son's room, which is rather small with a low ceiling (so we can't have a ceiling fan in there). I have definitely noticed an air quality improvement in his room - but some odour still remains. However, it doesn't actually 'cool' his room. Not at all, really. We have another bladed fan on in the corner of his room to move the air around during the day and cool it down during Summer (because his room is too out of the way for our main RCAC unit to reach), but the bladed fan is too noisy at night so my son likes having the Dyson Pure Cool Me on at Speed 3 overnight. There is a difference in air quality when I go in his room first thing in the morning, but the air progress dissipates quite quickly once the door is open. Perhaps a sign that it is best used in a smaller, closed room. We've tried a couple of different air purifiers in his room, and he likes the Dyson Pure Cool Me the best, not just because it looks cool (!) but also because at night, the light goes off on the dial and he prefers sleeping in the dark. Other air purifiers have little lights on them permanently and this light annoys him. The ability to adjust the fan through 10 separate power levels definitely makes it more useful than a standard desk fan for use at night (although fan speeds any higher than 4 could be getting a little loud for some people).Purchased in January 2021.

Ah! Thank you for your information! I was wondering why there was some odour control at my work...but not in my son's room! I shall have to re-read the manual and alter my review after that. Oops!
OK, so there was no manual, but there is an online manual. Pulling out the filter, I can see that it does have a carbon filter there!

This is a very good personal fan
I have now been using the Dyson Pure Cool Me fan for a few weeks now and would confidently recommend it to anyone looking to replace or update a personal-style fan for bedrooms, desks etc.
We tend to use the fan all night to keep air moving in our bedroom overnight to keep it cooler. The fan generally runs daily from 10pm to around 6am.
Initially when using the fan I was having difficulty trying to justify the costs and to see where the value was in it (What makes this better than the Box Fan we were using before????) and then the fires start...Read more
ed..... I didn’t quite realise just how efficient the filtering was on the fan until we were impacted by the smoke due to all of the bushfires. I normally open doors and windows in the house and one day I had to shut them all up pretty quick smart. I popped this fan on in the bedroom and walked out of the room. I returned a couple of hours later and could clearly tell the difference between the smells in the bedroom compared to the rest of the house. It really did do a good job of clearing the smoke-smell out of the bedroom, so I proceeded to move the fan around the rest of the house! What I have also noticed is that the cooking smells that end up in my bedroom (design of the house means that cooking smells end up in our bedroom) are drastically reduced or eliminated when we run the fan for a few hours in the evening. I have also noticed a mild to moderate reduction in stuffy nose etc in the morning, which I am thinking is due to the air being cleaner in the bedroom, overnight.Purchased in December 2021.

Nice fan, unsure of air quality impact
The fan design is nice, with well thought out features like an led screen, easy operation and general aesthetics. The controls were easy enough that my toddler could work it out. The air flow output is gentle and easy to titrate to a flow and direction that suits you. Even on full it doesn’t feel uncomfortable like many other personal pedestal fans, and best of all the ability to control the air flow direction saves your paperwork from being blown away. As a desk fan, it is quite nice.
With the recent air quality concerns from the bushfires, ...Read more
I was interested to see what kind of impact the Pure Cool Me would have on our in home air quality. Unfortunately, it is difficult to quantify this. There is no sensor that tells you if toxins are being taken out of the air (I believe some other Dyson purifiers have feedback telling you the impact the machine is having). The closed room would still smell of smoke, but with the severity of the fires this is unsurprising. Something to be aware of it the filter requires replacement approximately once a year, with the filters being quite expensive (I believe close to $100). The ongoing maintenance cost is something that should also be considered prior to purchase and is a bit of a deal breaker for me. I also found it annoying that all the controls are on the remote - if you lose or misplace the remote you seem to be stuck with the last function you set it on. The remote also needs to be replaced quite perfectly or the magnets don’t catch the base properly and slips off. The Pure Cool Me really needs to be thought of as a fan with a purifier as a bonus. Is it a nice fan? Yes it is. If you are a relatively sedentary person looking for a cute personal fan for your desk that you spend a lot of time at and you suffer from allergies, you might find it beneficial. With the impact the bushfire smoke is having on all of Australia, any little bit of filtered air in your home might help.Purchased in December 2021.

Safety a surprising key feature
To get an understanding of who this has been reviewed by, we are a small family with 2 very young children and a large inside dog. My husband has allergies to dust, and while not severe can cause great discomfort when they flare up.
Before I get into the detail I have to say that overall my favourite and surprising aspect of this fan is the design of the machine itself and how safe it is. There are simply no blades for my young children to stick their fingers in like there is with the traditional style pedestal fan and to me this is a huge a...Read more
nd ingenious design feature. Hats off to you for that Dyson! When my youngest climbed onto the desk and sat next to the fan it took me a few seconds to realise that had this been a traditional fan the spinning blades would have been a great draw card for her, and it would have caused me great panic. The worst the kids can do with this fan is break it. I feel completely at ease. In terms of the purifying factor, I can't say that I noticed a difference. I will say that on one occasion my husband woke up sniffly from allergies and instead of taking medication, which would have been his normal go to, he went and sat in front of the fan. The allergies went away. Knowing how his allergies have flared up in the past he can only attribute this to the purifying aspect of the fan. Now into the detail: Price - When you compare the price of this fan, currently on sale for $399 through Dyson, it is a lot more pricey than a pedastal fan, or comparable to the installation of a ceiling fan. I find our ceiling fans more effective overall, however they don't come with the features that this fan does. This may be a better option for someone renting who may not have the option of installing ceiling fans. Remote - I'm not a 'fan' of the fact that if you lose the remote you can't operate this machine unless you purchase another remote. There is no inbuilt backup. Cost of a new remote from Dyson is $25.00. Great to have the magnetic strip to attach the remote to.Purchased in December 2021.

Better than expected
I received the Dyson in good order and ready to plug. We have a few pets in the house and I tend to wake up with a stuffy nose, maybe due to the pets or other allergies. My wife sleeps with a fan on all the time, I hate the noise of rattling blades, and I have a hard time going to sleep because of it.
So I swapped her trusted old fan for the Dyson. I wasn’t expecting anything special except a little more quieter. Well there are other good things to say about it. At first I loved the remote control that has a magnet so it has its place on the u...Read more

Surprisingly powerful and effective little Purifier
I have to be honest, when I first unboxed my Dyson Pure Cool Me my initiial thought was "there is no way this little unit will be powerful enough for a whole room". After the first use I was pleasantly proven otherwise, it really packs a punch for such a small unit, and the added bonus is it is also filtering the air you're breathing and in the month I have been using it have noticed a difference in air quality in the room used (I suffer from mild hayfever and related allergies and symptoms have been considerably less for this time of year).

An Appealing New Friend!
One thing I’ve learned about Dyson stuff since getting one of their Animal vacuums last year - my first experience with the brand - is that it has street appeal .... tons of it. I’ve always been a more practical person, usually avoiding glam ... but occasionally it’s true that you can have your cake and eat it too!!!
When invited to review this product a couple of months ago we were a little hesitant - none of the family suffers from allergies, but ... we do live in a very dusty environment, and combined with the smoke haze from the relentless...Read more
bushfires the country’s been suffering, the scene was set for an interesting assessment of the first air purifier we’ve ever had anything to do with. Packaging was efficient and well done. Mostly recyclable. Assembly was straight forward and intuitive. No owners manual ... but the product is so simple to “get” that you won’t need one. There’s heaps of guidance on the Dyson website if you need it. Build quality seems fine, and the colouring very complimentary. Ours is said to be “Gunmetal/Copper”. In reality it’s more of a charcoal black and a copper-leaning-towards-orange. However it looks rich and modern - and has the flair to look good in pretty well any home environment. Power consumption said to be 40 watts .... easily comparable to an electric fan, and a walk in the park for our battery power system. About the only gripe I could offer up to this point is the surely unnecessarily large transformer wall plug that the unit plugs into. This bulky contraption may cause problems if plug space is restricted - as it usually is beside beds! The upper section comprises what they term the “air head” which does the oscillating and the blowing. This sits atop a vented barrel and locked into place with a press clip on either side. The lower portion holds the very easily removable cartridge type filter - similar in appearance to that of a vehicle’s air filter, and you can see its pleats by looking closely through the vent holes. To swap it out all you do is remove the head, grasp the two visible tabs at the top and lift it out. I understand replacements are exxy ... but having used ours most nights for a few weeks there has been zero visible buildup of particulates, and zero indication on the operating screen’s useful filter replacement gauge. The unit comes with a remote ... and there doesn’t appear to be a means to activate it other than by remote. It’s small and very light too - so don’t lose it!! In an interesting quirk, Dyson has magnetised the remote at the rear, so it simply clicks onto the lower front of the unit. Nice! Although I tend to leave it beside the bed! Note that the “sweet spot” of the magnet is limited, so you’ll need to match the remote up just right on the front of the unit lest it falls off and annoys the hell out of you. There’s a matching outline template on the unit’s front to help line it up.Purchased in November 2021.

It packs a punch. But is it worth the price?
Now, you’re probably wondering if it’s worth while to purchase one of these Dyson Pure Cool Me fans or should you stick with a cheap pedestal one?
Before I had the opportunity to test out this machine, I had an industrial pedestal fan which I bought at Big W for $49. These things are big, heavy and you need to assemble it. I use this when I go to sleep. I mean, it does the job but if you can’t sleep with loud noises, it’s useless.
The Dyson Pure Cool Me is a simple yet genius cooling fan. Actually, this fan does not contain any blades whatso...Read more
ever, yet, it packs a punch. There’s no assembly required either. The only time you need to open the fan is when you need to replace the filter. If you’re looking for a fan that cools the whole room, this isn’t the one for you, as the Cool Me is more of a personal item that you put on your work desk or as I do, on the entertainment unit in front of our bed. The packaging is simple. Upon opening the box, you are welcomed with a little remote. This remote is magnetic, which attaches itself to the front of the fan. The remote itself is very basic. You have the on/off button, an oscillating function, timer which you can set when it stops operating between 30 minutes to 8 hours, plus and minus buttons to adjust the speed of the wind force and the info button which tells you when the filter needs to be replaced. All this information is displayed on the tiny LED screen at the bottom of the fan.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Surprisingly useful
I was quite sceptical about agreeing to review this fan/air purifier when first asked back in October of 2022. I have air-con throughout the house and haven't seen a need for a stand alone fan for quite a while. But I am a fan of the Dyson stick vacuums and so thought heck why not give this ago.
We got the fan in early December, just as the bush fires around NSW really started to take off. We were inundated with smoke waking up throughout the night to cough and struggling to clear the air in the house in the morning. Its not really economical ...Read more
to have the air con run 24/7 to deal with the smoke, and also it wasn't actually hot enough at night to warrant having the air con on, so much to my surprise this little air purifier ended up getting used pretty much constantly over the 4-weeks we had to trial it. PROS: - Quiet at low settings (below 3) and relatively small - Easy to use - Seems to do a ok job of clearing the air in a bedroom, struggles a little on larger rooms - cheaper to run that air con and likely a good alternative in dry, non-tropical areas with smaller rooms, like bedroom at night. - works well as a fan for when air-con is not needed.Similar opinion? Functional & sleek.. is it worth it?
As someone who suffers from hay-fever on a daily basis and lives in the hot tropics, I have used air purifiers previously.
The Dyson Pure Cool Me is modern looking, sleek, cylindrical and dome-like design. It could easily fit into a home and look great.
I have received the Black & Bronze model to review and it looks rather industrial. Personally, I find the pure white model far more aesthetically pleasing and more suited to modern homes.

A brilliant machine for removing toxic smoke from the air
This little machine has been a 'godsend'. It is helping me survive this unusually hot, smoky 2022/2029 bush fire season. The machine is quiet set on 2 or 3 and easy to sleep with it set on 2, and there is a timer which can be set to turn the machine off after I fall asleep. It also cleared the smoke from my bedroom quickly set on 8, after smoke came in the window with a cool change. The machine is easy to move around, sensible to operate and the remote has been intelligently designed, it is lightweight and easy to use.

Bit disappointed tbh
I’m using this on my nightstand. Not actually sure how well it purifies air but I haven’t felt much of a difference. Still a nice looking fan. And on step 1 of 10 it’s pretty quiet. 2-9 are loud to extremely loud but I already saw that coming, as it’s not my first Dyson fan. My biggest concern is that the rotating mechanism started making noise after just one day. This makes it useless at night. Almost every part in this product is made of aesthetically cheap plastic so I’m not too surprised. Just disappointed by a $400 product.
Purchased in December 2021 for $399.00.

Impressed!
I have to admit, I was initially put off by the price but after using this for a couple of weeks in 40plus degree temperatures, I can see the value compared to our other tower fans which just didn’t cut it in the heat. This has become my sidekick at home - on my desk, in the kitchen and next to my side of the bed. It’s a stylish design which looks great and it’s not too heavy to move around the house. The remote is small and ergonomic in your hand and attaches to the fan magnetically which is a great feature to stop you losing it. The air strea...Read more
m is concentrated so it actually feels colder than a regular fan and you can easily direct the air up or down. It has 10 speeds from a slight gentle breeze all the way up to a full on blast. It can be left on still or set to sweep from side to side. It has a timer so you can set it at night to turn itself off. Our main air conditioner just wasn’t keeping the house cool when it got to 44 degrees and I usually really struggle with the heat but with this next to me I got through the day no problem at all. The thing I love most is the portability- I really feel the heat so I put it on the kitchen bench while cooking then I don’t have to freeze the rest of the family with the air conditioning on! The Hepa filter seems to work well, we have had some local fires and a lot of smoke in the air but with the fan on,the air inside is smoke free. This would be ideal for anyone who has asthma or allergies. Although this is a personal fan, I have used it in the corner of the lounge room set to sweep and it’s kept us cool. I can definitely see the value in this appliance. It’s fairly quiet as well,on the lower speeds you can barely hear it at all. The only thing is I would probably like a longer cord but it’s still a decent length and possibly some type of indented handle on the back as it has to be picked up from the bottom and although not heavy can be a little awkward. Also, one of these with a battery would be amazing! We have such hot weather in Australia and tend to get power outages and to still be able to use this would be a lifesaver! All in all, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this, another quality product from Dyson.Purchased in December 2021.

Great for cooling baby in summer
Surprisingly good. I have found some Dyson products over the years fail to live up to the hype, but this unit is quite effective. We have a small house and only one air conditioning unit in the living area, however in summer the bedrooms get HOT, especially the east-facing bedroom which is where our new baby needs to be. All-morning sun directly on the window of this room has so far been making the room REALLY hot, really quickly, which means I need to keep the bedroom door open so the aircon can travel up to the other end of the house, meaning...Read more
I have to exist very quietly whenever the baby is napping. Thankfully Summer hasn't been consistently hot in Tassie this year, but some of the days around 25 degrees are not hot enough to shut the house up and put the aircon on, but too warm in the baby's room with the door closed (even with the window open). I have found using the Dyson Pure Cool Me directed at the cot adds additional cooling without being irritating to the baby. We have tried other fans, and personally I HATE fans with blades, as I find they buffet the air which really bothers me (although my husband doesn't seem to notice). I put a thermometer in the cot next to baby using this fan to measure its cooling effect, and I was able to get a consistent (at least) 2 degrees of difference, which is just enough cooling most days to make it bearable. It is quiet, but moves plenty of air. There is a high-pitched element to the noise on fan speeds of 5 or higher, but again some people do not notice noises like this. I still find that significantly less irritating than a traditional fan. We've previously tried a free standing misting fan, which us adults agree feels nice but doesn't significantly cool the air in any measurable way. The baby hated that. Possibly the buffeting that bothers me also bothers her, but it's also noisy in general. I also purchased a personal evaporative cooler which is quite ok for its $160 price, but really only useful right next to you in bed or lying on a couch. It was also quite noisy, and the baby also hated that. She will happily sleep in the room with the Dyson pointed onto her and the window open, it moves a lot of air making it quite refreshing without the noise. As another reviewer wrote, the power cord is a generous length. Only small criticisms - the remote doesn't quite want to stick properly to the magnetic spot on the front of the unit, and the oscillating action is a bit slow to register when changed on the remote (if you're trying to position the air flow precisely). The unit looks a bit like a small modern garbage bin with an upside down salad bowl on top, we had a bit of a laugh about this, but it's in keeping with Dyson's design aesthetic. Everything about it feels deliberately designed, which I can appreciate. I cannot measure the air purifying abilities of this fan, but it does seem to make the room it's in "feel" fresher. That's an effect I certainly don't notice with other appliances, in fact it's sometimes the opposite. I would love some more info on power consumption, but I have read it draws about the same power as a ceiling fan (which is typically low). All in all, it's a very convenient, space saving and effective little unit and I'm certainly glad I've had it these past few weeks.Purchased in December 2021.

A quiet achiever... but could use a few more features?
This unit turned up just as I was evaluating various air cleaning methods (trying to clean up a mould problem). The filter sits quietly in the corner humming away. It took quite a long time to evaluate to ensure the results held and were not due to some other change in the environment:
I was getting a burning in the chest that I assumed was due to something in the air and after installing this air con & cleaner the burning reduced dramatically and has now resolved entirely (took a few weeks). The air also feels better when using this air clean...Read more
er and over the last few weeks I continue to feel better and better. I have an air quality meter which suggests the air in my room is reasonable: low levels of all contaminants most of the time. The air quality meter measures formaldehyde (HCOH), Total Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) and Particulate Matter (PM 2.5 & 10 microns). Whatever air quality improvements are being made by the filter were not apparent on the meter. However given the price of this aircon/filter combo (around the $500 mark) I'm surprised that they don't build a few extra things into it? The obvious stuff to include is particulate matter readings (PM1.0, 2.5 & 10). However VOC's, formaldehyde, humidity and temperature would all add extra utility to the filter? Many of these measurements are made with lasers... which don't require any maintenance and should be very reliable over long periods. As some of the much cheaper filters and meters include these features it seems reasonable to add them to this expensive filter? Another feature the unit could use is something like electrostatic precipitation? Or a negative ion generator? These are low maintenance items that help remove positively charged particles from circulation. Such items require very little maintenance... so you get a significant improvement in filtration for a minor cost? They would also help the filter last longer.Purchased in November 2021 at Dyson.

As part of the ieatwords Ambassador program, I was sent this unit a couple of weeks ago to test and review.
