Get what you pay for
Hard to beat the value for money you feel when buying a jayco compared to others. But you soon realise how they achieve that price point and that is through mass production, cheap materials and workmanship. My biggest frustration is the false advertising. Brought an outback because that is what we planned to do. First trip and the outback ended up inside the van. How hard would it be for them to take five seconds while making these vans to seal them. I expect some dust but not the amount I had in the storage areas. Thank god it was not cloths o...Read more
r food in these areas. I can seal it but really should not have to when buying something called an outback ? You get some better suspension, fake checker plate and some chunky tires but joy is taken out of the outback when you spend more time cleaning it out of van than you did in it. Please also tell me why they put the spare tire between the a-frame ? Everyone I see has had to spend money relocating it which is what I also will have to do. I can live with it and in all happy but just disappointed that I have to do the finer details to make it truely outback.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good value for money.
Have owned for 15 months and have nearly ironed out all of the bumps. If you are handy, pretty much all of the issues people complain about can be overcome (leaks - poor cabinetry). Yes, these issues should be solved In house by Jayco, and for the life of me I can't understand why after all of the poor reviews that they don't get stuck in and fix some of the problems. I can't believe their design team are campers or they would not let these issues go unresolved.
Having said all that - we are delighted with the van and would certainly buy another as we believe they are great value for the money.

Fantastic Van 17.56-2
We bought our Jayco 17.56-2 outback brand new in 2014. It's the best thing we ever bought! We looked at second hand but they seemed to keep their value. It's very hard to believe the bad reviews I have read. Myself, 2 brothers & a close friend own one each (2012, 2013 & 2 off 2014 models). None of us can complain, nor can the many Jayco owners we've talked to throughout our travels. I have 4 young boys, we have done about 10,000k's in ours. Yeh, a cupboard latch stopped latching, had trouble with water pressure, drawer runner broke, kids snap...Read more
ped all the curtain rails off but honestly, all very minor quick fixes & nothing more than other people we know with 80k vans have dealt with. No leaks (& we've seen a lot of rain), no mechanical issues, nothing really. Jayco service centre in Brisbane was fantastic. I can only assume these reviews come from the small amount of disgruntled customers whereas the majority of satisfied customers are out there enjoying their vans.Similar opinion? rubbish. bitterly disappointed
We purchased our new expanda outback caravan in sep 2014 and finally had it delivered in March 2015.after having in for almost 12 months now can highly recommend if you dont want to spend all your time returning your caravan back to the dealer dont buy a jayco.our caravan has so far spent a total off 8 weeks back at the dealer having repairs carried out such as fridge issues (on our second fride first was dead on arrival )problems with heater -aircon unit thermostat .cupboard doors falling to bits.external stickers...Read more
peeling off and caravan is kept inside,go figure .most off our problems are due to poor workmanship. No quality control what so ever. Dealer attempted repairs not much better After spending over 60g we were looking forward to creating family memories Instead we got a nightmare. My advice to anyone considering a jayco dont!!!

Jayco expanda
Paid $39000 for a bucket of bolts on wheels. It's all there just make it all work. Somethings are either to hard for dealers or they just don't care once they have your money.

just amazing
Our Jayco pop top van 14-4 OB, we travelled from Melb up the middle via the Oodnadatta track, the Red centre, covering the "loop road in to Alice then Kakadu". We even took the van into Palm Valley camp ground. In a nut shell we did about 3000 ks on dirt roads, not to mention Gibb River Road and into El,questro we drove to the conditions and only had one blow out. I was amazed, very little dust in side, all the fixture and fitting worked great, I may add the van has been fitted with simplicity independent suspension, it was loaded to the max for 15 weeks and covered 25,000 ks(check out our trip) the dewdneydiarys.

Great value van for a family
After reading some negative comments regarding Jayco Expanda Outbacks I felt it necessary to share our very positive experience. My wife, myself & 3 daughters (14, 12 & 11) have towed our 2014, 17.56-2OB with new JTech suspension over 10000km up the west coast, across the Savannah Way from Broome to Cairns and now heading down the east Coast of this great country, many kms were corrugated gravel roads with bulldust holes, river crossings etc.. Very little dust entry, more dust got into the car (2012Pajero) than the van which was trailing in the...Read more
dust. The van has held up remarkably well, one shelf in the fridge door broke & the fire extinguisher bracket fell out, other travellers in $100k + purpose built vans had more issues than this on the same roads. With anything you need to be mindful of the conditions you are in & treat accordingly, if you are on rough roads deflate the tyres a bit, I went down to 25psi on Gibb River rd. This is my first caravan after camper trailers & I have no regrets buying a Jayco, I had one warranty issue with the water pressure when connected to mains water and this was repaired by an agent in Bunbury WA no problems at first service. in my view this is by far the best value van in its class.Similar opinion? Very good van
I bought a 2012 outback expanda poptop and could not fault it. I used this van many times with my family and it was perfect for what we needed it for. I'm a tradie and very fussy and the quality was not nothing like you would get in a quality built home. But they have to keep the waight down. A few mates have other brands of vans and they all have had problems ( Leaking And things falling apart ) I also looked at other brands and I could not see were the extra $20,000 + was in buying there's. I have recently sold this van and have orded a new 1...Read more
7.56-2 outback expanda poptop as my family has expanded. I sold my previous van for $34,500 and paid $36,000 drive away for it new. The resale value on a jayco is very good. If you can get them for a good price new you'll do even better. The 17.56-2 outback expanda pops I have just orded came with shower / toilet / extended draw bar / outdoor shower / electronic stability control / bed converter / tv dvd / oven / Treg coupling / picnic table / CD player with external speakers / wind up antena / privacy screens / control panels / stone guard / 120 wat solar / long and end sun shade to awning / dual water tanks / dual gas bottles / jerry can holder / coil spring independent suspension / heating air con / and many Moore extras for $48,200. Good luck trying to buy another brand for this muchSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
- Expanda Pop Top 17Ft Touring

17 ft expanda 18 months of use
My Expanda is very satisfactory . we have travelled 19000 ks so far with no breakages .
Connection between areal and tv at poptop end was poorly done as was air con connection at same point.
Front tent accumulates water when it rains
Toilet came away from wall ( i weigh 105 KG)
the above was fixed by east coast RV on gold coast as gold coast jayco never wrote back to me re repairs
Value for money and resale are great
happy expander owner Greg S

Patient.
Bought October 2014 brand new. Before first trip find shower floor is cracked, there is a screw straight through top of back water tank making it leak. Go to see jayco service agent about warranty. No problem but jayco send wrong parts. Take 2 parts turn up not the same as original for wall sheeting in shower as this is what they use now they inform me. Looks cheap . Wall sheeting damaged on installation so waiting on take 3. Point is with good quality control this should not have eventuated. My first van. Will probably be my last. Disappointed ! You betcha.

Nothing but junk
My wife and my self bought a Jayco 16ft Expanda Outback a year ago and have only used it five times . The first trip we did ( a week end away ) we discoverd that the mattresses where not level amongst other things . When I contacted Jayco Gold coast about the mattress's I was told that that is how they are . What a load of crock . We have had many issues with this product and the company we bought it from ( Jayco Gold Coast who by the way are shocking to deal with and I highly recommend you buy elsewhere ) such as all the plastic components in ...Read more
side and out going yellow, van leaking staining both mattresses, wiring problems, bathroom leaks, draws that don't work and not to mention the out side of the van it's self going yellow and that after a year we still do not have the right mattresses . I am very disappointed with this product and the after sales service .Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

We purchased a 16ft Expanda pop top Outback brand new in October 2015.
Where do I start
The entire van filled with dust when we took it off road. Ee later discovered thst Jayco had left off a Velcro strip that prevents dust from entrring through the hinge at the back. Consequently our rear mattress and interior canvass is permanenlty stained.
Several drawers unlocked thrmselves over a moderately bumpy road and snapped, hinges of cupboards pulled out of the wood and the privacy screen press studs just about fsll out when you look at them.

no excuse
Jayco expanda is a great van but quality must be built in each team members process. There is no excuse for poor workmanship either lack of training or management issues cause poor quality not cost of a product., customer feed back is the most important information a company can receive if a quality problem is found it should be rectified and countermeasurered, Not jayco is looking at it and hope to have it fixed for next years model. jayco is not a rolls royce or a great wall but as customers we need to demand and expect quality products as there is no extra cost to build quality only proud and well trained people building your product.so yes I agree that it is a great van but it can be much better for the same price.

Think twice about buying a jayco expanda outback
I just can't believe how disappointed i am with my new van. This is my first new caravan and choose the expanda outback because it looked great for my wife and i and our 3 kids. I have taken it on three small trips over the xmas break. Ok now, the problems, i picked it up and took it home to show the family opened the door and found there to be cockroaches in it - bloody great!. Off we went up the coast about 200km set up and noticed a 5 inch crack in the back door over the bed. The so called cd player does not take cds (they don't fit) we pack...Read more
ed up after a two weeks and went to another 300kms destination, the black checker plate around van is coming off, one cupboard door fell off and i've just had a shower and noticed a hole in the shower floor. Plus you have to carry a rattle gun with you because the handle for the legs is pathetic. So, it is 6 weeks old traveled around 1000kms and the best jayco can do is end off april to look at anything. At this rate i will drag a shell there. It hasn't even been tested on much gravel roads thanks jayco!! And one more thing i payed for a aerial and it's not on it. No bloody cricket!!!!!!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

What a perfect van
I find it interesting that people are expecting the quality of a rolls royce, but have gone out of their way to buy at the budget end of the scale. Jayco's are great. they do everything you need them to do.
If your heavy handed regardless of brand you will likely break something. It's unfortunate that sometimes components they use can fail, I might ad that these are the same components that all caravan manufacturers use. Are you getting the picture? yes you are right, all brands have their issues. I for one have never had an issue with any of the Jayco's I've owned. Little things yes but thats normal with a new hand built van.
All in all, a great value for money product, with the best resale value of any brand.

Expanda 2014
i bought a new expanda 2014 17-1, if you expect a high quality van beware. Best workmanship i have seen, been on three trips, every one a problem, from water leaks (bed ends to air conditioner) to cracks in hard end covers / roof, fridge handle snapping off, led lights not working. Jayco i give up thank you for your high quality product you promised me when i purchased the van and also the great after service repairs. Purchased van in Sep, had to wait for December for dealer to even look at the problems, and then the van was sitting at dealer f...Read more
or 7 weeks. When i picked up the van i was asked to return it as the problems still aren't fixed, Manger was to call me still waiting 3 weeks now, maybe they 're waiting until the 12 month warranty runs out. 14.44-5 Outback Expanda
bought our van in end of Feburary...2013 demo model....and put 5000K's on it before the end of March..it now has close to 8000 on it, and like other have said...a broken shower door latch(cost me $5 to upgrade)....loose hinge or two....nothing major. The main issues I had with it were the spare tyre location and the water drainage..
Spare tyre a PITA....had to remove both gas bottles to get it out...being handy with a welder,I just redesigned the gas bottle mounts and move the bottles out 90mm...tyre flies out now....
Water drainage....most ...Read more

Jayco Expanda
We bought a Jayco outback expanda 2011 16-49-1 brand new our van has travelled around the country across rough roads and in bad weather never had wet beds but do have the extra privacy screens which helps keep water off also other options like solar and ext shower etc which weren't standard then have made this a very good van for the family
good for towing and quick set up excellent service from Prestige Geelong
the table has a section which folds up and down should have more fins to support it not a good idea to lean to heavily

Agree current split table design is useless and small 12mm fasteners used in hinges failed with minimal use over Easter. Intend to replace with piano hinge and adhesive next option single solid table as replacement
