Another broken one - only 7 months old
Five months after purchase, it had two weird instances where it refused to turn on. Concerning but then started working again.
Seven months after purchase the top of the handle and the lid break off. This is a huge issue safety wise, let alone terrible quality for a kettle that is nearly $200!!!

What a dissapointment
I was given this kettle as a gift and was so excited as I now kitchen aid to be a very reputable brand. From the moment we got the kettle we struggled to use it. It wouldn't turn on when we would press the button until we lifted it off the plate and put it down again. Sometimes if it was left on at the power point we would here it boiling over and over again at night just constantly beeping, for this reason we have to make sure after every time we use it that we switch it off at the power point. The other issue we have had the badges are fallin...Read more
g off, this started only a month after we started using it. I would have returned the kettle only for the fact we didn't use the kettle until months after being given it. In short the Pros: Looks good (Well at the start at least) Can pick the temperature (I do question how accurate this is) Cons: Hard to use Constantly turns on when not in use Poor Badging

Beautiful kettle
This kettle is gorgeous. Beautiful design with a smooth, easy to use handle. A sweet little beep when your water has boiled. You can choose your temperature (I drink lots of green tea @ 80 degrees). There is a keep warm option. It feels like a very good quality product and I'm surprised at the number of reviews that had problems with the handle. Time will tell, I've only had mine a few days!

Terrible Terrible Terrible!!!
I bought this kettle 6.5 months ago. The handle pulled away from the body of the kettle plus the lid of the kettle detached. I went back to DJ for replacement or return. They told me nothing they can do until Monday working hours until they consult KitchenAid, which means I have to live without a working kettle for at least 2 days. This is a very expensive kettle, but it last shorter than a cheap 10 dollar kettle. KitchenAid also makes the return very difficult. Very unhappy and disappointed.

Do not buy this product!
As noted by other reviewers, the handle pulled away from the body of the kettle plus the lid of the kettle detached. This is obviously a significant design/manufacturing flaw. I bought this product under 6 months ago and have misplaced/lost the receipt so unfortunately I have no recourse to get it fixed. It now destined for the garbage bin...
Buy this product at your own risk...

Another handle malfunction
As many others have experienced, the handle of the kettle came away at the top. The screws that anchored it in were clearly too short and the casings sheered through. We had also had this 6 months. It is extremely dangerous and I would never buy a KitchenAid kettle again, nor recommend one. We got a refund from GoodGuys and bought a different brand. If this had not happened I would have rated this kettle 4 or 5 stars.

Broken handle
Loved this kettle for about 6 months, until the handle pulled away from the body at the top of the kettle just two days ago. Such a shame, clearly a big design flaw if the handle can't be used! I have other kitchenaid products and have no problems with them so I expected better far better quality and longevity from this kettle.

Handle comes off
As with some other reviewers the handle of our kettle has come off at the top. And the lid won't open properly. Surprising for a Kitchen Aid product where you'd expect a lot better. We'll take it back to the retailer but a recall should be considered as this is a safety issue.

DANGEROUS - Chinese Made Rubbish
Such a dangerous product, there should be a recall. The top of the handle detached while I was pouring a full kettle of boiling water. This kettle is so unsafe it's a terrible accident waiting to happen, very scary! A once trusted, quality brand has gone down the cheap manufacturing side and the results speak for themselves. I would like to see their quality control or lack there of. Disgraceful!!! Please be careful with this product.

id was sorry that this had happened and that they are to keep requesting that all the kettles that do this be sent back to them. Hello! They should be issuing a recall!!!The handle also fell off my friend's identical kettle today, I have reported the product to the ACCC with photos.
The recall took this once trusted brand so long to issue, completely irresponsible behaviour. Won't be buying KitchenAid again!

Won’t boil
It won’t boil, the highest temperature it will reach is 70 degrees, tried cleaning the contacts and still no good, only had it a year and it started to crap out. Sadly it replaced a cheap kettle we had for years and never had a problem with it. Very disappointed in the product

Broken handle and lid
Loved my kettle till the handle broke off where the lid is attached to the Base of the kettle. Luckily for me i notice that the handle broke and I didn't spill boiling water on me. Not happy with customer care advising me to send it back and after inspection they will send me a replacement. Being in WA it's probably going to take 2 weeks to get a replacement. That means I will not have a kettle for a while. Very annoying.

Another handle fell off. Dangerous product.
Similar to other reviews, the handle fell off after it boiled as I picked it up and my hand was burnt. Thank god no children were close. This is dangerous and the product should be recalled and redesigned. The screws near the lid through to the handle are too small or the plastic is brittle. Only 6 months old.

Poor quality Kettle
Very well made metal construction kettle, love the variable temperature settings allowing you to select the exact temperature required, keep warm function and digital display. Elegant design, fast boil and beeps when it has reached the set temperature.
Elegant design, I could not be happier with this kettle it has all the functions you could possibly want in a kettle.
14 months later the start button has broken, it does not lie flat as it should, sticks up and flies off, a flimsy little bit of plastic. I have treated this kettle with great care and hoped for much better with the price paid.
I am quite disgusted.
A replacement was offered immediately, very good customer service from Kitchenaid.

Handle With Care
The KitchenAid Empire Red is very efficient. It boils water very fast. You can see the water level and is easy to clean. but be aware that the handle may break away from the top. This has happened to me, It was full of boiling water. The handle came away from the body spilling boiled water every where. (Its under warranty and will be replaced)
My recommendation IS:- HANDLE WITH CARE

Dangerous and unsafe
Like a number of others who have posted here my wife narrowly escaped burns when the handle unexpectedly came off the kettle. This is obviously a common occurrence due to a design defect. This product should be the subject of an ACCC safety recall. Time to step up Kitchenaid and put consumer safety first!!!

bleep! bleep!
at first it was quite novel bleeping when it reaches temperature, but a few months down the line no thanks!
it bleeps when you take it off the charging base, when you put it back, when it reaches temperature, how annoying!
especially if you are up early like 4am it sounds really loud
ours hasn't had an issue with the handle.
would I buy it again? not a chance

dangerous, boils over
I purchased this very expensive kettle some months ago as I was assured that it was a premium product. I have read some of the reviews here but nobody seems to be having the problems that I have with this product. When the kettle I have is set to 100 degrees it will boil for anything up to 7 seconds after it has reached that temperature. This may not sound too bad, but if you have the kettle more than half full, and certainly much less than the maximum line, then boiling water will simply gush out the spout and all over anybody standing nearby. That doesn't sound too premium to me, that's just dangerous.

Some great features...not all executed perfectly though
We’ve been using this kettle for a few months now and have been generally happy with the product - after all, if it’s a kettle and it boils water then it’s doing its job!
A great feature is that you can adjust the temperature, however I was disappointed to find you can only do this in incraments of 10 degrees - that’s not as accurate as I would have hoped for (5 degrees would have been better).
You can set it to keep the water warm at a set temperature, and it beeps when the kettle finishes boiling (I thought a smoke alarm was going off t...Read more
he first time it did it!) The handle is a soft rubber, however I’d suggest you check yours out of the box as a small part of ours had been chipped off, and it looks unsightly if you look up close. The style fits in a contemporary or a traditional space, especially this cream colour. The display and scale glows blue when activated. The buttons are also soft touch, however they have started to sag already with a few months’ use. Overall, it’s doing what it’s meant to do, however for a premium product with a premium price, we haven’t been left with the ‘wow’ factor.1 comment

Dangerous product
Purchased this expensive kettle late 2016 hoping to ensure that we had a quality product. Wrong!
First the lid stopped opening and we had to fill the kettle via the spout. Then my husband narrowly escaped a burn tonight after the handle came off and the lid fell off simultaneously.
Never again! Beware of this product! Appalling safety issue.

Great if you want to be burnt
Worst purchase I've made.
Thought I'd be getting quality for the amount of money spent.
Instead the handle snapped at the top like so many others.
Even after contacting Kitcheaid via the email they often reply to these reviews with has gotten me now where.
A very ordinary experience with a kettle only 6 months old.

I’ve also got this kettle that was gifted to me awhile ago as a present (so we never received the receipt) and now the display is starting to pack up on it.
I’m exceptionally disappointed as I’d wanted one of these kettles for ages.
I’ll just buy a cheap one as it looks like the quality is on par with these now.
