Poor customer service
I sent two emails and even called their contact centre few times in order to get my clearance certificate. Despite all the correspondence I have still not received it and I am very disappointed the manner they handled my enquiry.

Used to be good until Policy changed 1st July 2013
Peoplecare used to be popular and I labelled them as "fair" "honest" Australian Health Insurance company until they changed their policy 1st July 2013. I took Silver Extras.
It is still good compared to most of major health insurance. Customer service is very helpful. I wish they have the same cover as they did 2 years ago. I am leaving them and move to other insurer. I will use Peoplecare as benchmark and see how it goes.

h meant that it was being subsidised by members on other products. So, we decided it was only fair to restructure the benefits. The overall limit was the same, but having a set benefit for each item meant that you’d get benefits for a longer period of time. We thought that that would be a fairer way of doing it because our review of the product showed that most members use the cover many times throughout the year. I'm really sad to hear that your product experience has left you thinking we're not a fair or honest health insurer - that's certainly not how we like to run things here and we pride ourselves on being a not-for-profit company that does everything in the best interest of our members.Similar opinion? Great cover-But lacking in Customer Service
Have been with this crowd for almost 3 years, had a few simple claims with dental and Physio, easy and happy with the claim process but when I rung them today to pay my account, I asked them to email me a copy of the original invoice. She confirmed my email, and said she would email it through. After waiting for a few hours without it coming through I called them again, and got someone else who said they are unable to email the invoice or the receipt that its been paid, as they don't have the facilities to do that!? Went from fantastic to mediocre
We had the same issue as many below - we switched from another fund due to outstanding reviews (from this site) and fantastic extras coverage including 75% back on most services. We joined in February 2013 and had no problems making claims on our extras. Come July 2013, I went to one of my regular chiro appointments and my rebate was $25 instead of the usual $38! This came as a complete shock to me - and contrary to what Murphy 75 says - we were not informed in any way shape or form by people care.
When I called people care to question the ...Read more
discrepancy in early July, they told me that they had sent a letter to all members. I knew I didn't get it because the extras cover was the main reason I joined their fund, and this news would have affected my decision to remain with them. I said I would check my paperwork and she said she would look into it. Well, to their credit they did call me back! They admitted that they found there had been a glitch in their system, and members who joined between certain dates that year - roughly Jan - May 2013 (not sure of exact dates) were in fact not informed of the changes!! No letter, no email - nothing! I was furious. The girl on the phone informed me that "most people have been fine with it!" My response: "Firstly, maybe they were actually informed, and secondly, maybe they aren't happy but they just haven't called to complain." I think if you join under a particular cover, the fund is obligated to honour their agreement with you (my mum still has her 10+ year old Grant United coverage honoured by Australian Unity!) The bottom line - I think for when we were with them, they were a good fund (friendly customers service and no hassles with claims - like some of the big companies). But we were just really annoyed they changed cover, didn't inform us, and that our call led them to find a mistake in their own system. They apologised, but we just thought, when we are spending almost $4000 a year on a fund, that's just not good enough Peoplecare. We have now moved funds to Teachers Health Fund. Small company, no hassle refunds Poor communication, customer service could be improved for complaints, made very big changes to our cover without telling us!3 comments

Best health fund I've been with so far
I've been with BUPA, and NIB, and now I think I'm going to stick with Peoplecare. I joined PC in June 2012. They have excellent customer service (call up and don't need to wait on hold!!). I have now converted my husband as well so now we have family insurance. Highly recommend. I have the gold extras with the basic private insurance.
Good customer service
I don't use all the extras, wish they could let us have a maximum extras on what we wanted.

Flawless fund and spreading the word
I joined Peoplecare in August 2013 just before turning 30 purely from reading positive reviews and went for their basic cover initially. One month later I found completely out of the blue that I needed surgery as soon as possible. I was covered by Peoplecare (approving my application within days) even though I just joined so long as my operation was 2 months after my joining date. From arranging the procedure details in what was a stressful time, Peoplecare were the easiest, most helpful people to deal with and made the whole process so much ea...Read more

Top service top cover
We've been with PC for many years and have consistently been very satisfied with client service and value for money. Having recently become self funded retirees we decided to do a quick review to see if there are any clearly better alternatives. It's hard to compare them on an apples with apples basis, but a few years ago Australia Fin Review ranked them among the top funds. Looking a few other funds it looks like PC are still right up ther, so we'll stick with them. My gripe is not with them, it's more with fund users in general: a big probl...Read more

Feel cheated
PC looked like the perfect health cover option for myself and my wife. We signed up for a relatively high level of cover in May. Part of that cover included 75% cover for physiotherapy and chiropractic which are important to us as we play a lot of sports.
However, when we went to make our first physio claim we were stunned to find out that we were not covered by 75%. Instead, they only paid $50.
We immediately checked our paper contract and from that it was clear we should have been covered by 75%. However, we then logged into our online ...Read more
account and noticed that our plan had changed. In particular, the extras cover was significantly different. The 75% was abolished and replaced with a rubbiish tiered system - $50 for first visit, $30 for visits 2-5 and so on, all the way down to just $20. We imediately contacted them and questioned the change and why we were never told about it. They informed us that a change was initiated on the 1st July and letters were sent out to all members but they have now identiifed there was a gap in the communication for newly joined members i.e. myself and my wife. We feel very much deceived by PC and are now searching for a new provider (NIB looks much better). Shame really, as they could have been good Affordable premium Changed our plan without informing us1 comment

So far...Brilliant !!
Having read the reviews, we changed our health cover from Bupa to Peoplecare last December. Being of a "certain age"(57 and 65 years old), we chose the Gold Extras cover. I have just had to have an OCT scan at the opticians and was advised by them, that to their knowledge, no health plan will cover the cost of $80. I decided to submit the claim and within 48 hours, I have received a full refund. Also, I have been told that I will receive $300 towards new glasses and lenses, again, our opticians are amazed and say that is far more generous than ...Read more

Outstanding Customer Service and Great Value
I had been with Medibank for a few years before deciding I need to find a couple cover for both me and my husband. ryone is very helpful and friendly. Emails are always replied within a day or two. Since I haven't claimed any hospital expenses with them yet, I can't say much about that but according to the booklet I've read, it's very comprehensive and will cover a lot of things. So far I have claimed extras for optical frames and naturopathic services and that have been easy and I was very satisfied with the amount I got back for my claims. I also love that I don't have to go to Member's Choice Providers to get good returns. I could go to my normal providers and get decent amount back(finally!) Compare it for yourself and give them a ring. You won't regret it. Well done Peoplecare. Friendly, professional customer service, and high benefits paymentsSimilar opinion? Excellent Service
So I checked the canstar website and peoplecare was given 5 stars, green ticks across every benefit and every one on here had nothing but praise for the company! I was worried about moving because I'd never heard of them.
Done my research and found all private health insurers are regulated by the government so their financial security isn't a worry. that was my biggest issue. Rung up today and someone answered the phone within a couple of rings!! Took 10 minutes and I was done. On the phone now to NIB (been holding for 35 minutes now and still haven't spoken to anyone) to cancel my old policy. So far, my experience has been excellent!!

I've been with Australian Unity for years before I joined PeopleCare (after I read a Choice review) but you cannot compare the value I got from PeopleCare for just over year and a half. Highly recommended.
If high dental and optical coverage are what you are after - this is the private health insurance you should consider getting. Also, they have a 'loyalty bonus' if you stay with them over a couple of years.
Their Customer Service is also excellent - I never had to wait more than a couple of minutes to talk to 'the real person'. They are also very good (and fast!) with resolving any issues.

Having been with HBA for a number of years, I came across Peoplecare on this website. I made the change about a year back, and the service has been faultless. I've saved myself around 20% in premiums for the equivalent cover, as well as plenty of time not having to wait on the phone.
Their website is excellent and easy to use. Phone support is instant and courteous.

Time to try the best
Peoplecare do not offer gimmicks like 2mth waivers etc and free vouchers, but they do offer by far the best service and coverage. Best extras returns and very easy hospital admission. Absolutely first class service/customer contact centre.
They do not make you jump through hoops to claim. Very Friendly and helpful.
No enticement to join (such as 2 and 6mth wait waivers etc). Free First aid kit is not incentive. However, as a current member I am glad this providor does not make it easy for 'claim and run' members by offering these incentives, as it only makes it more expensive for members in the long run. Well Done Peoplecare

If you have had private insurance for years with another company years I mean like 20 years plus do waiting periods apply when joining a new company? Thinking of going with people choice a non for profit company. Im with Medibank and get charged a fortune about $95 a month with 70% back.

Depends on the company. I know some companies dont make you sit through the waiting periods again however they do ask for your current details and member number etc to double check.
True Im certainly not signing up to a new one then having to wait two or three months to use anything and paying for it!

Peoplecare H.Peoplecare Health Insurance
Thanks for getting in touch Steve. Sorry for the late response, we only just came across this one. Most funds don’t pay towards tests in emergency as the hospital considers you as an outpatient until you’re actually admitted as a patient. However, the hospital should be upfront with you about this and the fees involved. I hope this helps, please let us know if you have any more questions. If you’d like more info on our available covers PM us your details and I can have one of our Customer Service Experts contact you, or give us a buzz on 1800 808 700. Take care - Brooke @ Peoplecare

Hi John! Thanks for getting in touch. Hip replacements are covered under our Premium Hospital cover as a Private Patient in a Private Hospital. You would then also be covered for rehabilitation after your hospital stay. We’d be happy to chat to you further about this to make sure you have all the info you need before joining such as excess, out of pocket expenses and waiting periods.
Please give us a buzz on 1800 808 700 or private message us your details and a time and date that would suit you best and one of our experts would be happy to give you a buzz. Take care – Brooke @ Peoplecare
