Bang bang bang
Good looking system adequate size for a growing family but depending on where you live, precautions need to be put in place when the system is installed to avoid the mineral build up that is causing us grief at the moment. Those precautions being a stronger anode and soft water filter as recommended to prevent the mineral build up (I have no idea if that would work as have not tested over a period of time myself)

in like when you boil a kettle, but hadn't really paid much attention to it as the rheem (25+ years old) at my folks place did the same thing and we just flushed/descaled it and got all the minerals out. This noise would not normally be an issue, but my 22 month olds bedroom sits right next to it, it makes a loud bang/pop in the dead of night and wakes her up crying. Again this usually wasn't a problem because we hardly used hot water that late at night, BUT now with a new born we're up ever 2-3 hours and have to use hot water so that makes for 2 screaming kids at all hours of the night. I found the rheem service team over the phone friendly and the service guy very helpful and knowledgeable. Pros: Design, I think it looks good1 comment

Like every other review - pilot light faulty
Unit is only 2 years old however the pilot light started to falter just after 14 months. Started to go out every week or so but then progressed to every day or two. Now it doesn't light at all! Rang the Rheem service department to be told it is not covered in the 10 yr warranty and I would have to pay a service fee per hour.

Worst
Was talked into Rheem after having my Dux for 16 years with no problems.Within one month already pilot light had to be relit and this morning woke up to explosion sound with insulation and lid blown all over the place. Terrrifying experience.Customer care by name ...they were drones..unhelpful despite gas and fire and explosion situation

Another Pilot Light going out constantly
We have had a Rheem Stellar for the past 15 years with no issue so had no problem purchasing another for a new house we have built as an investment. Just as others are complaining, within weeks of the warranty ending the Pilot Light goes out every couple of days. When we rang we were given the standard story about wind but as we live very near by to the new home and our Rheem Stellar isnt going out decided to have a look online.Scores of the same complaint listed. 43.00 but they have pre charged $350.00 before even looking at the unit. I know that the unit should still be covered as I have spoken to Consumer Protection. Rheem should be ashamed of their customer service. There is obviously a problem with the latest models but they still insist of charging customers for what is a known problem with their units.Consumers are entitled to expect things to last a reasonable time and 13 months on a $1500.00 unit is not reasonable The product must be fit for purpose and I will take the matter further if necessary. Bad warranty period
We bought and installed a Rheem gas domestic outdoor water heater with ten years warranty in 11/11/2014. The pilot light has started to keep going out since July 2016. Firstly it happened once every month, then frequently once everyday. It is frustrating you have to relight it every day.

our product is faulty as so many customers have same problem. Rheem should provide standard services under warranty. According to Statutory Warranty, "Statutory rights are not limited to a set time period. Instead, they apply for the amount of time that is reasonable to expect, given the cost and quality of the item. This means a consumer may be entitled to a remedy under their statutory rights after any manufacturer's voluntary or extended warranty has expired." After I mentioned this to you, you just ignore my email. You just pretend you are going to help, but no help at all. My two kids got cold all because of your bad quality product. Major fault 2 months after warranty
I had the natural gas model installed 15 months ago. Two months after the warranty ran out the unit stopped working. We have had the main gas valve changed and it is still not working. Now Rheem want to charge me $145 per half hour to look at the unit and rheem technical support are saying over $400 in part probably as they replace the whole burner unit and main gas valve as a complete unit now. I will also be submitting a written complaint to rheem in preparation for a complaint to consumer affairs. Location of Anode
Unit is working fine, no problems at all, but i want to check / replace anode as its now 7 years old. Where is the anode, have looked all over the unit, removed top cover nothing there either.Unable to locate any literature or info online or from Rheem website on this.

Very disappointed in quality and service
Rheem hot water system is 2 years old and the igniter button is already faulty. Rheem informed me that parts only have a 12 months guarantee and there is a $140 call out fee for the first 30 minutes. Bitterly disappointed in customer service. How does the 5 year guarantee come into this? Having now researched, this is a common problem among these models (which also explains why it was so hard to find our heater). Next time I need a hot water system I will be steering clear of Rheem.

Fobbed off... poor warranty period
had builders plumber out in first month to check, pilot light going out.
Rang rheem some mths later told probably wind, periodically going out.
Just paid $100 service fee to check problem, still going out
parts quoted $300 ( $400 all up )
Off course just out of warranty
Would not recommend this rheem hot water system
Warranty periods not good enough..

No Hot Water again thanks to unreliable Rheem Stellar
Our Rheem Stellar gas hws started playing up just as the warranty period ( 12months) expired. The pilot light kept going out about every two weeks. I contacted the installers, Victorian Hot Water, who recommended this make and model but they weren't interested, suggested it may be caused by strong winds.It is not. We're aged pensioners, and replaced our 12 yr old Vulcan with this supposedly more efficient heater costing nearly $1400. We now have to relight the pilot light several times a week, it's hopeless. Rheem service quoted $143 for each half hour plus parts. That is not acceptable quality, and my next step is Consumer Affairs Victoria. Whatever you do, do NOT instal a Rheem.

Excellent Gas Hot Water Storage System
I bought this about 2 years ago, so there has been enough time to form an assessment. It replaced a previous DUX gas 135 litres hot water tank which was 15 years old (still in working condition but I decided to upgrade before it dies suddenly).
I chose this Rheem Stainless Steel because of the following reasons:
1. It does not need a sacrificial anode due to new technology. This means less on-going maintenance costs.
2. The 155 litres capacity is much better than my previous 135 litres tank. Never run out of hot water again and also has enough for my spa bath (which the previous 135 litres tank was only just adequate).
3. It has a 5 star energy efficiency rating. In an era of rising gas prices, this is important.

Having the same problem as everyone here
Friday morning woke up for a shower as usual but theres no hot water at all. The flame was out. Light it up and still no hot water. Waited an hour still no hot water. Terrible and Unreliable Rheem
If you like warm showers all the time do not buy this heater as it is completely unreliable.
We have moved into a new project home in November 2015 it is now 14 August 2016. Our heater has a manufacture date of 24 July 2015. Pilot valve intermittent.
The problem started just after the 12 months warranty on the pilot valve system. It's winter and had to reignite 4 times. Calling the local gas and plumbing service( authorised Rheem sales) to have a look. Reading the reviews, this model seems to be the problem! My previous address, has a Rheem stainless steel, 10 years still going. Both the new home developer and Rheem, stop selling this product or fix the problem.

Another Disappointed Customer...
As with many other review on here, the Stellar 360 seems to have a fairly common issue with the pilot light going out. Called the customer service, and all they wanted is to charge me for a service call plus the cost of any relevant parts as it was out of warranty by 4 months. This is pretty unacceptable for such an expensive "premium" model to stop working after just over a year. earlier as we saw it as isolated incidents however now has turned into a proper issue. Definitely call Rheem as soon as you notice the pilot starting to go out and get them to have a look under warranty. Preferably avoid the model as it obviously has issues and Rheem are not acknowledging it nor issuing free repairs for it.1 comment

I purchased the Rheem Stellar series 850 model 336 gas water heater on the 8th October 2014 and am most disappointed with it as trouble started just outside the warranty period. Like many others we've had issues with the pilot light going out. It's been a daily occurrence lately. I get home from work, check the pilot light on the HWS and am occasionally (and pleasantly) surprised when it's already on.
The technician replaced a gas valve and something else (maybe a thermocouple?). It was all covered by the warranty - no cost to us.
So; very happy with the outcome, not particularly happy with the fact that this is obviously a known issue and some people are being charged to have it fixed.

A new Rheem Stellar 850 series 360 model gas hot water unit was installed on the 25th August 2014, which comes with a 10 year warranty. In the last month the pilot light has been going out every second day and sometimes daily ? Not a lot of fun trying to light the unit over and over again. Contacted Rheem on 23rd May 2016 about the serious issue with the hot water unit, they informed me that the issue with pilot light was not covered under warranty, and that all costs to repair or replace parts were on me ? I am very disappointed by the lack of concern and customer service. By looking at all the the reviews on this Rheem gas hot water unit, its a common fault.

Highly disappointing
Last Rheem lasted 10 years, faultless. Had new Gas stellar 360 installed in October 2014 with 10 year warranty. Contacted Rheem and told them that pilot light now keeps going out every 2 weeks and system needs to be restarted. Told pilot light not covered under 10 yr warranty and will cost $200 an hour in service, plus parts!
