It's a long shot and a wild guess, but I am wondering if the air temperature and flow sensor is dirty. It happens on diesel engines in my experience, so why not your heater? Low down at floor level, there is a grille. You can press the end catches (tricky to find) and remove it. Turn the heater off and feel around inside behind the grill. You should feel a thin rigid tube protruding down, with a tiny bulb on the end a bit like a match-head. I am guessing it is a temp/flow sensor. Wet a cloth with alcohol and wipe the bulb. There is an aerosol spray can called "CRC MAF Sensor cleaner" (MAF = Mass Air Flow). I don't recommend spraying anything into the heater though. Alcohol on a cloth should work fine, maybe iso propyl alcohol. Or maybe just even Methylated spirits. Do not touch the sensor with bare fingers after cleaning it.
Hope this helps, best of luck, Gary (NZ)

Hi Paul, thank you for the question. There could be a number of reasons for the heater not getting to temperature and a service call may be required to diagnose the issue. In a lot of cases it may be that the heater is not the correct size for the room installed. You have speak with our technical department on 1300 555 545 and they may be able to help you.
Alternatively you can book a service call online here:

Hi Jan
I have not found any problem with the heater drying out the air and have had my heater on all day long for the past couple of months. Also I have not used the water tray at all.
Do you have the Flued model?
I can only suggest that you talk to Rinnai head office in Melbourne
Cheers

Thanks for your answer. Yes we have the flued model. Maybe we are running it too high for our small room, what temp do you recommend?

Hi! I’ve recently moved into a new house with the RHFE-559FT installed brand new. Every time I use it, it’s setting off my smoke detectors. I’ve had the smoke detectors replaced and it’s still happening. I had someone come to my house for the third time in 24 hours and they think it could be because my heater is new. Could that be why?

I bought, I paid nearly $ 3,000 and I'm not satisfied.I set the temperature to 25 degrees. After some time, the heater shows 25 degrees and the heater automatically is off.Ok.My thermostat on the wall of the room shows a temperature of 20 degrees???What's going on?

1 answer
Rinnai
Rinnai A.Rinnai

Thanks for the question aco. The thermostat within the unit will be measuring the temperature at the unit and there may be a variance to where the room thermostat is reading the temperature. Air flow around the heater can also cause issues with temperatures being different. We would recommend contacting our technical help desk to discuss on 1300 555 545

I have a brand new Rinnai Energysaver 559 FT, haven’t even had it for a week! Everything goes along fine until the room reaches the desired temperature, the thermostat kicks in and the system just shuts down! There doesn’t seem to be any power getting through and it’s not the power point, I’ve checked. I then have no control over the ON/OFF BUTTON. The heater may or may not try to turn back on but can’t!
WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? Is it a faulty unit? Who gets to decide that?
Not happy at all.
My previous Rinnai energysaver worked like a dream for 15 years. It says something about quality control or lack of it in 2018!
No heat for me for who knows how long.

Rinnai recommend a very expensive service call because Rinnai are scumbags who generate money. It’s how business perpetuates itself. Your heater draws cold air in from the outside and in the middle of winter that cold air contains a level of relative humidity. If you have your heater working constantly then logically a small amount of condensation forms during the heat exchange process. Generally the condensation drops forms on the outside of the flue and drops to the ground outside and most people don’t see it. If you suspect that the droplets on the inside are gas and not water then you must call a technician immediately but if it’s just a tiny amount of water then it’s normal. Rinnai are scumbags who never give an answer other than “call a service technician” in other words “help keep our business moving” “generate income” this is what is wrong with Australia. Business over people. Follow my philosophy and that is to say next time around, never buy Rinnai.

Does the heater still heat well if the fan is not on? Also, to use LPG would we need a kit to convert it?
One more question! Is it possible to operate this in a blackout? (eg battery powered ignition or external ignition possible?)

You can’t use this heater without the fan on. Unsure re conversion kit for LPG but i believe so. No, this heater does not work in a blackout.

Rinnai
Rinnai A.Rinnai

Thanks for the question Jaintae and for the answer Lrak, as advised the fan must be running when the unit is operating. There is an LPG kit available to convert from Natural Gas to LPG which is available at any Rinnai stockist. this must be installed by a licensed gas plumber. The unit does require power to operate.

Hi we have a Rinnai RHFE-559FT and yesterday I went to turn it on and it made a strange sound almost like water bubbling or something like that then as soon as the fan kicked in it would turn off and a '12' would come up in the display when checking the manual under heading 'Error Messages' it says '12' is Flame Failure! We turned it off and unplugged it. Today however my son turned it on and it did make alot of clucking sounds and a sort of bubbling sound then the fan kicked in and it stayed on....yet after about 3 minutes it began to smell quite bad - gas toxic smell. Does or has anyone else had this problem? Our heater is only 2 years old.

I've experienced a power surge and it knocked out our energysaver 559FT, does this unit have a replaceable fuse?

1 answer

Rinnai A.Rinnai

Thanks Efun for your question. The 559FT has replaceable parts and if there has been a power surge it's possible that the heater PCB has been damaged. We would recommend a service call to diagnose the damage to the heater. Our 1st Care Department can be contacted on 1300 555 545 with option 2 for the service team.

Hi. Are on our second heater. Best thing ever though We have just had a power outage in our street and surrounding streets. Something very worrying just happened with our heater. as the power was off the fan cut out but the gas stayed in to the heater. We couldn't use the operation buttons. The heater became dangerously hot and had a very strong burning smell. Becand too hot to touch in just a matter of minutes. We very quickly turned the gas supply off as this was the only way we could exhaust the heaters flame. Should this happen ?

1 answer
Rinnai
Rinnai A.Rinnai

Thanks for the question Moo, the 559 heater doesn't have a flame so it is difficult to diagnose the issue not knowing what type of heater it is. Some of our portable range of heaters are designed to run without power.

If you can locate the model of heater we can assist further, alternatively if you can take a photo of the unit and email to [email protected] with the description above, our technical team can help.

Where can I find out the principles on which my 559ft heater works so that I can maximise it's performance.
For instance, one of my queries is, do I leave it on maximum until it reaches the selected temperature and then switch to Energysaver or do I run it on Energysaver all the time. Is there any advisory service in any of your outlets or are there any information brochures that would cover this? I find that, if I understand how something works, I then know how to operate it better.

ask use gas fitter. then check his answer with the manufacturer. and look at the product books.
Take a red pen and cross out all the option that will not work for you. ie size, flue option ect and take it from there. If you want it done right at a good price do the leg work yourself.

Tash

Rinnai 559FT

Hi, I was wondering why the humidifier tray has to have water in it constantly?

1 answer
Rinnai
Rinnai A.Rinnai

Thanks for the question Tash, The humidifier puts moisture back into the air as the heater is running and can raise the comfort level in the room when used. If you do not wish to use the humidifier function, it will not harm the unit not to fill the tray with water but the tray itself does need to be in place.

The humidifier tray can be filled with water as required to raise the humidity level in the room for extra comfort. If the humidifier is in use, it will need filling approximately about once a day during the heating season.
