Unbeaten on price and QUANTITY
We have been totally let down by Statesman Homes and so have countless others.
A closed group on a social media platform, where individuals building or wanting to build with Statesman Homes, Hickenbotham and SA Housing Centre can communicate freely has revealed numerous clients have had their contracts cancelled.
Initially I thought we were a rare exception where our requests were beyond the builder’s capability. Building on an unconventional yet common sloped block in the Southern Hills resulted in an email response stating, “we would not ...
Read morebe in a position to take on this build”. A simple split level added to the side of the two storey home would have been the solution to this but I was met with the response, “we do not split two storey homes”. This Statesman Homes floor plan would be the most simple of them all to incorporate a split to lower our garage level only. I would like to highlight that Statesman currently have 17 floor plans available on their website of split level homes (single storey) indicating their tradespeople and engineers are accustomed to such processes. We feel them saying they don’t split two storey homes is an excuse to back out of this contract. This is in addition to their alleged rule of “we don’t build on any block which requires more than 3 meters of cut or fill”. Our block in total length has 5-6 meters elevation gain from front to back but where the house would be would only have about 2-3 meters brining it into their ‘building constraints’. Statesman or more broadly, Construction Services Australia (CSA) appear to have an overwhelming quantity of work at their hands. It seems proposed builds which have some added complexity over their most common build of single storey homes in a Hickenbotham Group owned subdivision such as Seaside Estate at Moana are being cancelled. In a phone conversation from our sales consultant, it was explained to me that, attempting to push my build through client services or some level of management would prove ineffective and would still result in a contract cancellation. This is due to our file being reviewed and rejected as our build with a small amount of added complexity “ties up too many people in the office and ties up too many on-site trades”. Essentially it was explained that in the time it takes the trades people to build our one large 2 storey home, they could be building numerous smaller single storey homes on flat blocks presumably in their estates. This is clearly where a volume builder like CSA companies make their profits. I reiterate, we are not alone. Although I can’t confirm what all the other build cancellations are in relation to, I can imagine they are for minor things also. It strongly indicates that although they are overwhelmed with upcoming builds to start and finish, they are still accepting contracts which appear simple. Instead of pausing sales and not accepting jobs, they continue to pick out straight forward home designs, sign the clients and have them wait 12+ months to have their house build commence. Then they proceed to have a generic response relating to ‘a timber shortage’ instead of letting customers know at the beginning when people begin to question the delays.- Verified
Statesman homes substandard trades and nothing but trouble throughout build
Started of well with salesman [name removed] knowing his part and great service but from there it started going down hill. Took forever for slab to go down then the substandard trades done there thing and not well at all, frame work very messy with no pride taken brickies where a nightmare to a point i was even threatened(although i never even met or spoke to them) had to get other brickies to cut out and replace soo many bricks it wasnt funny, tilers done the worst job ive seen came back to fix a second time and just as bad so different tilers ...
Read morecame for a third go having to jack hammer up every single tile and start again, carpet being of substandard to a point after being replaced for a 3rd time, finishes so rough they are taking a 3rd shot at fixing and it goes on. Signed in april 2022 now august 2020 and still no closer to handover although we where told numerous times handover would be end of may. None of the trades seem to have any pride in their work and the whole circus which is statesman homes just continues. I do not reconmend statesman homes to anyone as it has been a nightmare. The only guy in this build that seems to care but has his hands tied by management is [name removed] the site supervisor who does he's best to soar like an eagle while surrounded by utter turkeys. Even when you ring to speak to someone they always busy so take your name and number but never ring backQuestions & Answers
Hi,
We have bought a Statesman home that was built 5 years ago we had been having trouble with the plumbing, after inspection by a plumber it was found that the septic pipes had been crushed together which had restricted their flow. The plumber said that this could only have happened during construction as the downpipe pipes which are above the septic pipes are not affected. Is there a warranty on plumbing as it has not been a cheap fix ?
Thanks Pete

Well there’s no incentive for writing a genuine review they basically request you to write a review IF you liked their customer service. I have absolutely no idea how the paid reviews work
We don't understand why upgrade pricing can't be supplied alongside the selections booklet, or inside the selections centre. There appears to be a high level of secrecy around this pricing. Many other builders offer price guides for upgrades so that their customers can prepare for their selections appointments.
We did reach out to the Selections Team via email, but have yet to receive a response. When we called to follow up, we were informed that they are understaffed and may not be able to respond.
Wouldn't it be more effective and efficient to equip the customer with the information directly as opposed to creating more uneccesary work for your Selections Staff? An approximate indication of cost would be better than providing absolutely nothing. Expecting customers to complete their entire external, internal and electrical selections appointment in one single sitting is likely to result in mistakes or decisions made in haste. I understand why so many people get nasty surprises during this appointment given that they have such little opportunity to prepare.
