Not as good as the original
After 26 years with my old (trusty) Mixmaster MX-AC I unfortunately needed to replace it. I liked the system of the old one with 2 beaters and thought the whisks would be a benefit. How wrong I was... The whisks don't spin the bowl when whisking egg whites (even with the suggested gentle assistance)!! When I bake I usually make a number of things, but after today I stopped at 2, it took me twice as long as usual to prepare the cake mixes. The stainless bowls aren't as good as the old glass ones for creaming the butter, and the beaters don't do ...Read more
an adequate job on creaming, and when mixing the cake mix the ingredients tend to lump into the centre of the bowl. The most frustrating problem is that I cant walk away from the machine and expect it to keep mixing while I prepare something else, because you need to wither adjust the speed or manually move the bowl to get it to continually spin. Basically I am very dissapointed with my purchase which is unfortunate as I loved my original mixmaster.

r the cakes I made and has the power needed for beating. While there is a spatula fitted to the beater you will still need to stop the machine to scrape down the sides of the bowl. Unfortunately the style of the bowl doesn't let you do this while mixing. This machine will do the work for I need it for, but it will need a bit of getting used to.Brendan K.Sunbeam

Good basic mixer
Had it a couple months so far & can't fault the functions: the speed of mixing is perfectly adequate, the attachments are all the you need, 2 bowl sizes are extremely handy, the overall retro design is quite fun.
Originally I used to use an 'antique' one of these with the glass bowls, now it just sits as a decorative piece in the kitchen. This new version is quite comparable to my old one.

Only lasted 4 years
This was a wedding gift. Probably my favourite wedding gift. I love to cook and a decent mixer is an absolute must. It just died. Good and proper. Smoke. Shards of metal and burnt plastic all over the kitchen counter. The whole shabang! (no pun intended!). This really is a shame as it retails now for $300 and the receipt that came with it back in 2010 was $500 and it only has a one year warranty. While I am in the kitchen a lot and have made good use of this mixer, I definitely haven't overworked it. Sometimes I would go months without touching...Read more
it! If it died after 4 years of heavy use, it would be annoying but understandable. Given it's level of use and price-tag, this mixer should have lasted me much much longer. Aside from the fact that I would not recommend purchasing this mixer, when it does work, it works quite well. I've used each of the mixing attachments, great at kneading dough, mixing biscuit, cakes etc. Easy to clean and the two bowl sizes are good. I really liked this product until about 10minutes ago. Oh well. Maybe I'll just get a Thermomix now! Off to hand mix the rest of that biscuit batter. 2 bowl sizes, different attachments, multi-contol speed, easy to clean. Wont last long at all. Be prepared to buy another mixer within 5 years. 12 month warranty should be MUCH longer.

worse than a hand mixer
Having had the original machine in our home growing up (one of the glass mixing bowls still surviving) we decided to get one of the new ones for a bench top mixer as my wife bakes a lot and wanted the convenience of operating it while doing other tasks in the kitchen - something you cant do with a hand held mixer. I bought her the lemon coloured mixer a couple of months ago but returned it thinking it was faulty - the bowls do NOT spin. Having now received our white replacement model from the retailer, my wife today wanted to whip some cream, a...Read more
simple task...but yet again, the bowls do NOT spin. They are not powered, but rely on the offset beaters to turn the bowl as the contents spin through the beaters. However, the lazy susan that the bowl sits on wont spin with something as light as cream in the bowl. This defeats the purpose as you must stand there and manually spin the bowl. Very disappointed in a brand of appliances we have long used and chosen. Not happy. Do not recommend this great looking mixer as it doesn't work as it should. looks, reputation based on its predecessor bowls won't spin, becomes a hand mixer, you need to stand over it1 comment

Cannot Fault it
We purchased the item a week ago from Target, Price $85, checked the web to make sure there wasn't any other cheaper prices, or there was something wrong to make the price so cheap. The cheapest price on the web $199.
We have made a lot of cupcakes, cakes, whipped cream and bread, no issues, easy to operate. You need to read the instructions before using. Also use the right size bowl before commence mixing the items.
Wife is concern that the large bowl could be dented, no issues with the small bowl
The price, easy to operate
nothing

Doesn't work
I was so excited to get this, but i quickly became disappointed. Words that come to mind now are - Terrible awful frustrating waste of money waste of time. The overall machines quality is very good, sturdy solid etc but the bowl doesn't spin, it seems very weak.
I have only used the mixer a few times since i got it, mainly because each time I get frustrated with it and put it back in the pantry.
It does seem good quality, looks good
It doesn't spin the bowl

frustrating
hubby purchased this for me at xmas since then i have tried and tried with it but i have had enough the bowls spin out of control it cant cream butter and sugar or any mixture in either bowl as it spins 110 miles per hour and when i hold the bowl the mixture fills the beaters and then travels up the beaters onto the machine!!!! .
having a large and small bowl and sits on the bench nicely
dosnt mix!!!

Disappointed
i have to agree with all the negative feedback on this product. Purchased it a couple of months ago and have just used for the third time...when the bowl didnt spin, i googled to see if i could find the problem...alas just now discovered that this is an inferior product. I also purchased because my mum had one when i was growing up that took pride of place on the kitchen bench. So disappointed that i didnt now purchase a different brand. ?. :-(
??? not much im afraid...
Bowls do not spin, the idea of using one of these things is so that you don't have to stand over it...wrong in this case

Very disappointed :(
I received this as a mothers day gift... The bowls do not spin as there is no motor so the beaters are required to touch the bottom of the bowl whilst mixing and turn the bowl. The beaters get extremely hot on the bottom so your egg whites cook, your butter melts its tragic! The handle on top also makes it very hard to store in your cupboard. The mixer didn't have the power to mix together my cookie recipe that my old faithful kenwood chef mixed up so easy. I now have to go out and buy a new mixer. Please save your money. I am so annoyed. Very dissatisfied! :(
Doesn't mix, bowl does not turn, beaters get very hot, awkward to store away, very noisy.

Disappointing, bad quality
I received this or my birthday 4 weeks ago. I used it twice, but noticed straight away that you really had to jiggle the beaters to insert them. I used it again this week, but once again the beaters were hard to insert, and then when I turned it on the beaters appeared to be out of alignment and seized up. I couldn't even take the beaters out. Very sad as the reason I really wanted this model, was the fond memories of my mums mixmaster. Obviously the quality isn't the same, as my mums one went on and on for at least thirty years. Not so, the new model.
The retro look
Poor quality. Didn't mix properly or evenly. Bowl didn't turn.

Very good purchase
Bought this recently, have used it a couple of times so far, once with the large bowl, once with the smaller. Both times it's been excellent. The smaller bowl was one of the main reasons I chose it. It mixes well, the bowls turns perfectly, it's not too loud. The beaters are easy to get in and out (don't need both hands to press the eject button, unlike my old one).
Haven't used the whisks or the dough hooks yet.
Creams butter and sugar well.
My only small criticism is the metal bowls - can't use them to soften butter in the microwave. To ...Read more

Not doing too well
I got this a year ago and have used it successfully for things like turning spices through meat mixtures using the dough hooks. But I find that it really won't cream things such as egg yolks with sugar, like 5 yolks in the bigger bowl. It ended up "cooking" some yolk mixture on the base of the bowl from the heat of the beaters working so hard but wouldn't cream it properly. Same for beating egg whites in the bigger bowl. My cheap handheld does a better job of both.
Large capacity.
Doesn't do some very basic things such as creaming eggs and sugar.

I find it is best to use the small bowl for anything involving egg. Same with butter and sugar.

SUNBEAN MIXMASTER CLASSIC MX8500
Over loaded at first used....motor is always very hot despite for only few minutes of kneading. Only used probably 2 to 3 times a month and within 6 months of used spindle gear probably had it because motor still running whilst one spindle not turning/rotating. Did try a lighter spindle (beater) and this one seams to rotate OK without anything in the bowl however as soon as the kneading spindle replace same problem occurring.
The 12 months replacement warranty
Probably using a plastic mechanism egg. gear

extremely disappointing
I loved my old mixmaster. I was so happy to get a new one. But the motor died on the second use! Rubbish. i wanted this one for the dough hook but mixing a simple a pasta dough killed it. Now I can't even get the beaters to go in. Living in the country, this is a real pain. I now have to pay a fortune to get it shipped back to the online co. I bought it from.
My ancient 1960s one never let me down.
It doesn't work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No more unreliable bowl motors WOOHOO!!!
Bought this with the money refunded from my previous Cafe Series Mixmaster. I was reluctant because of the issues i had before, but i know how good sunbeams customer service has been with any queris i had. I like the way the twin beater mixers mix, more thorough! This machine is so much quieter, now that sunbeam have designed this mixer without an unreliable bowl motor! I was worrying that without a bowl motor, the bowl would not rotate well, but found out its the same way those antique Mixmasters were made (still going stong today after 50 odd...Read more

Very disappointing
We were given this mixer as a wedding present seven years ago. During that time and within warranty I have taken it to be serviced twice, and the bottom bowl has just stopped turning, so I assume the motor has broken, we won't be trying to repair it again. We also had to replace the beaters within two years of having it. One service took two months, the other nearly five months, from an authorised Sunbeam repairer (they did fix it for free within warranty but still didn't seem to be right). The repairer said that parts had to come from China an...Read more
d that's what took so long. On the plus side, when it works it makes great pavlovas. I make gluten free bread for my coeliac son and would appreciate having a mixer that can handle that kind of thickness of dough; it seems to struggle with thicker mixes like bread dough. Good for very light batters, eg whipping eggs and cream. The two bowls give good options for smaller or larger mixes Noisy, gets hot, struggles with thicker mixes, difficult and lengthy to get parts2 comments

Terrible
If only I had read the reviews first!!
Where do I start - It would be good if it actually mixed - The bowl doesn't turn and when it does it is uneven and the mixture ends up either on the outside of the bowl or clumped in the beaters.
The beaters are really hard to insert and the bowl engaging system is tricky too.
I am hugely dissappointed in this product and please people - Don't put yourself through the same experience.
Colour
Noisy, gets hot, doesn't actually mix consistently, bowl doesn't turn and beaters hard to insert.

Looks great, works wonderfully.
I was given this mixer as a gift by my mother. She chose it because it's the modern version of the classic Sunbeam mixer she used for over 30 years before it finally wore out. On that basis, my mixer may well outlive me.
It has a strong but reasonably quiet motor - much quieter than the cheapie mixers I've been using in recent years. The beaters and whisks have performed well for various kinds of cake and whisking egg whites fast and effectively. I have not yet needed to use the dough hooks but am confident the motor will handle that task we...Read more
ll too - one of the cakes I've made has very heavy batter and the mixer didn't labour at all over it. The beaters are easy to insert, remove and clean, and the stainless steel bowls clean up nicely by hand or in the dishwasher. A quick wipe of the mixer's body and you're done. The only things I'd change about this mixer are: - the labelling for the large/small bowl selector switch (adding words to the pictures would help as you can't see the small bowl icon from the front of the machine, which could create issues for the forgetful user) and - the button for tilting the body of the mixer up is a bit hard to press; it could be a bit larger.4 comments

Classic...
Very noice. When i bought my 6 sunbeam planetary mixmasters for my baking business, i bought a Sunbeam Mixmaster Classic in red for my home use and the kids to use. It is a great powerful mixer. I had the original Cafe series mixmaster before used in the business, i retired it to home use. But it looked a bit scruffy from being used everyday for 8 years with a broken handle bent bowls and beaters, and the paint was all scratched. So i went into the shops looking for it and found this one, which is the exact same, only no longer cafe series but Classic. Looks very nice in red. Whisks beautifuly and mixes cakes vary nicely. You are my sunbeam and always will be!!
Nice shiny red, reputational company, awesome machine.
