Travel Insuranz - Classic Plan
There is no point buying insurance. I had a distressing experience and am left out of pocket hundreds.
I had my phone stolen and was distressed as a solo female traveler with 2 days left out of the country due to this. I walked to the police station with my travel friend I had made that day and the police told me to do a claim online. My friend had a very basic plan and we used her email address on the form we pulled up on her phone. I had no way of logging into my emails / making a police claim .... as I had no phone obviously. You need your own device to certify it is you when logging in to emails these days, I could thus only get into my emai...
Read morels back in Aus at home on my laptop. Once back home I purchased a new one to replace the stolen one. I got a nice cheaper second hand one. My claim is still rejected because I "didn't report to the police within 24 hours". Also on this trip I had my bags delayed by 5 days. This meant I had to pay for a parking ticket at the airport when I went to pick them up which was $30. I claimed this as waiting 5 days without clothes was pretty crap. They denied the claim of course. Why? No idea. You pay nearly $200 for nothing. I would rather have this money go to a charity, not just disappear into nothing and do nothing to help me when I really need it.- Value for Money

Very bad service. My flight was cancelled because of the coronavirus. Unfortunately, I bought the ticket through a travel agency that do not answer the phone and emails. However, if I want to use my insurance, they ask for documents from the airline showing the offer of a refund and also, a document showing the exactly amount the airline is going to recognise.
The question is... if I have all the documents and the airline is going to recognise a refund.. why I want an Insurance?, the idea of having an insurance is to be protected when a “travel agency” or an airline, do not answer or do not recognise a refund.

We believe this policy to be of good value. We haven't had to make a claim yet. This is the second time we have used this insurance company. Thank You.

Review collected in partnership with Travel Insuranz
Don't trust their slogan "Don't Worry, Just Travel" as this insurance has to many exclusions.
My experience is that they do not pay out cancellation costs when during your travel a parent/grandparent dies while they are having some of those elderly diseases like dementia or Parkinson disease. Reason that this is a pre-existing medical condition. People can live up to 20 years with these diseases. Is this not something you would expect you are insured for and covered by a travel insurance?
Further they suggest they payout well as they state...
Read more they have arranged travel insurance for 2 million people and paid out 30 million. A simple calculation assuming average insurance fee is 50-75 aud per person per policy that their income is 100-150 million. Paying out 30 million means a payout ratio of only 20-30%. Last but not least please remove my previous review in which i gave them 5 stars, but that was before i put in any claim. You only really know how good your insurance is when you have a claim.- Insurance claim madeYes

I have 3 main observations: ...
Read more 1. I see no comment on my estimate/calculation on your average payout ratio of only 20-30%, so we have to assume this is correct or even at the high side, i.e. at least 70-80% of all premiums paid is to cover your management costs or most likely profit. I am very happy i can share this here for future customers. 2. Your reaction speed on reviews is fabulous, must must faster as on claim submission. Sorry to be cynical, but it is a fact. 3. Your response is unfortunate very standard. A bit more detailed response below on your standard response: 1. I did check and read the PDS and even was able to change the cover and include my relatives who are living overseas. (customers, please note your relatives living overseas are normally not covered). The pre existing medical clause for relatives was however hided in a 3 level exclusion, which i did oversee. Further any normal customer would expect the pre existing medical clause to apply only for the actual traveller. I have a master degree, am GM of construction company and dealing with contracts on very regular basis. If it is even difficult for me and i did oversee this it is difficult for majority of customers unless you are a lawyer. Apart from that the issue i have and which happens once or if unlucky twice that a relative unexpectedly dies during a holiday is now exactly what you expect you are covered for. This insurance certainly fails the pub test. 2. your remark that other insurances also have many exclusions does not make your insurance better, but just means the insurance market in general is a bit sick and focused on shareholders, profits and not customers. I compare your remark to a car driver who gets a fine for using a mobile phone while driving and his defence to the agent is that others are also use their phone while driving.Find out how Travel Insuranz - Classic Plan compares to other Travel Insurance

Shocked I was after reading our claim was denied. How is this possible if your dad and father-in-law deceased and you think you have a travel insurance incl cancellation coverage? That can’t be right and therefore we file this complaint.
First of all, the common understanding of the word relative in a dictionary is: “a person who is connected with another or others by blood or marriage”. Nobody would ever check in the Definition list if a relative includes your dad with the “minor” detail that this is only for Australian or New Zealand dads…...
Read more What a discrimination! Your dad is your dad wherever he lives on the planet, that should not matter. This is pure deception to the people who buy the travel insurance because they will never check the Definition of the word relative because everybody would assume (because it is common practice), your dad is covered under the insurance. We were not notified by Travel Insuranz that not being a resident of Australia had some serious consequences on our travel insurance policy / coverage. Travel Insuranz neglected to inform us properly that the cancellation is only applicable for people who have all their relatives living in Australia or NZ. In a country where 50% of the population is from abroad you should make your customers aware of such a crucial exclusion and don’t hide it away in the Definitions list, that is really unprofessional, unfair and misleading the customers. When we agreed on the policy, Travel Insuranz already knew we were not residents of Australia, and we notified the travel insurance this was the case. Still there was for Travel Insuranz no reason to inform us about any exceptional exclusions in the conditions. Either way we needed to cancel our trip to Fiji due to the fact my partner was seriously ill because as you can understand, losing both of your parents at the age of 30 with three younger brothers to take care of, this is a sickening situation. We would appreciate if "this travel insurance" can review our case once more and take our situation into account. I submitted my complaint a week ago and never heard back from you.- Insurance claim madeYes

Read moreue for money when it comes to their travel insurance, and our policy suits them perfectly. Our travel policy has been in effect for over ten years and we have been able to meet the needs of thousands of travellers many of whom have suffered injury or loss during their travels. It’s important however, to understand that insurance policies do differ in terms of the cover they provide which is why we ask all policyholders to confirm that they have read and understood the policy wording. We also give a 14 day cooling off period during which time we offer a full premium refund if the policy is not suitable as we don’t know your personal circumstances.I was covered with premium cover and had additional snow sports cover. On my last day on holidays, I broke my foot snowboarding. After a week of contact with the company and 3 unreturned emails. They have refused to pay any medical expenses as I had the surgery the day I flew into Australia. Also they refused any financial help as I will be out of work for 6 weeks from the the surgery, although it was in the contract that they would cover it, the "fine print" states that it is only if I have a perminant disability that refrains me from any time of work for over a year. Worst company I have had to deal with. Don't waste your money!
