Hi!
The rental company we are using (in Europe) does not cover things such as windows, tyres, underbody, roof and interior of motorhome (under 3.5 tonne). Do you still cover these items if damaged?
I know you cover the excess for a claim, but are excluded items still covered?
Thanks!

Yes if you read the PDS https://tripcover.com.au/Allianz_Tripcover_Policy.pdf
you will see we cover the excess PLUS these exclusions: windscreens, undercarriage, tyres, single vehicle accidents.

1. Do you cover car bumper damage? 2. What is the situation with covering damage to another vehicle that is your fault? Thanks, John New Zealand

Hi John, the normal wear and tear of bumper bar and trim is handled by the rental car companies but in the event of an accident, yes the policy covers bumper bars.

Third party damage is covered by the rental car company so any damage to another vehicle would come under your excess liability which
the policy that we sell covers.

HiTripcover
I'm looking at hiring a truck through thrifty - a 3 tonne 3Var. It looks like a truck but it is classified on their site as a moving van. Can you advise if this falls within your policy? It's a Mitsubishi canter. Thanks

We are going traveling to Tassie & Melbourne (from Feb 7 - 19) and excess vehicle reduction insurance I believe is very important. We will rental have mini-van (12-seats) in Tassie & 8 seats (Imax) in Melbourne, the 0 excess policy will cover mini-van (family travel)? One policy will cover from Feb 7 - 19 with 2 locations? Thank you.

I also would like to know if I would buy 0 excess policy from you and when I collect the car in rental, what kind the insurance I should have to cover the basic?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Hi, yes we can cover these two rentals of yours. You will need a separate policy for each.
There is no need to take out the car rental companies CDW or Collision Damage Waiver as they have a standard
that comes with the rental and the policy that we sell should cover the excess liability.
Have a good trip.

We are hiring a car in England for 4 weeks then going across to Ireland and hiring a car for a further 4 weeks. We are looking at taking out a policy for the full 8 weeks. Are we permitted to make 2 separate claims for $4000 each on the one policy to cover both hires, should in a worse case scenario we damage both vehicles? I might add, we have travelled many times and never had a claim but need to clarify this in case we need to take out two policies. Thanks, Bob

Hi Bob, you will need a separate policy for each rental agreement. This takes out the issue of making two claims on the same policy
and is part of the restrictions Allianz applies to the policy.

HI TC,

My partner and I are travelling to the USA and hiring a car for 48 days. The rental car company is looking to sting us up to $34USD a day for insurance. This equals the same price as our rental cost. This is also compulsary for us to have to then be covered by our travel insurance policy.

After doing some reading it seems like LDW/CDW are big things over there. We want ALL our bases covered, and all things applied in the event that we are unfortunate enough to be involved in a incident.

How taking out the trip cover is the policy similar to what is likely to be offered by the rental car company, just at a reduced cost? Or is there likely to be significant discepencies and 'holes' in the policy?

This is an issue when renting in the USA, as most people there that have auto insurance are usually covered by this for their rental.
If you use say Hertz.com.au and let them know you are from Australia they will take that into account.
They offer you this that it seems your third party liability would be covered :
Loss Damage Waiver
Vehicle license fee recovery
Liability Insurance Supplement
MISCELLANEOUS TRF FEE
Taxes
Hotel Concession Fee Recovery

I found this info related to this issue on Tripadvisor. We need ot be careful and not give you direct advice.

Anyway what ever excess may be left when you rent the car we will cover that in this circumstance.

Do you cover car hire in the USA?

Hi Carol we cover Australians going over to the USA. We also cover Americans coming to Australia.
Usually when an Aussie rents a car for the USA they get the extra cover needed
to cover the vehicle and we cover the excess liability that comes with the rental car.

Hi, is this cover recognised by all rental car companies? We are booking a car this weekend with Hertz so do we just purchase the insurance separately and then get in touch if there is a claim required?

Many thanks!

Desmond S.Tripcover

You have summed it up well Dan we have over 1000 car rental customers a month using our policy and if they have an accident it is pretty easy to claim.
We are underwritten by Allianz and so your claim will go direct to Allianz Global Assistance.

Technically it does not have to be recognised by the car rental company as their CDW is not compulsory. You just tell them that you decline theirs and that you ahve your own. Of course they don't like it as they make a lot of their profits from getting you to buy their expensive collision damage waiver, but business is business.
