Almost nothing is covered in the end
At first, this policy seemed to offer a lot, hence why I signed up for it in the first place. Well unfortunately my cat was diagnosed with a kidney condition while on the policy. Which, between all the tests, hospitalisation, special diet and medication, has already cost us a couple thousand dollars (more costs likely to arise soon). Thinking this would naturally be covered by insurance, we had peace of mind. Well, it turns out they will not cover a CENT of it because the kidney condition was diagnosed just before the end of the 30 day waiting ...Read more
period (litterally just 2 days before it was up)! I would have thought out of good will, that they would have made an acception to that since the first signs of kidney problems were shown while she was already on the policy. Finding out about our little girls health issue has been devastating enough for us, but now finding out that none of this will even be covered, has now also made this a big financial problem. Taking out this policy was a huge mistake, the premium cost far more than we ever got back from it (we have spent far more than the cost of the premium). They also refuse to cover a cent of the expenses for an infection she has developed (separate condition which started well after their waiting period), which makes it clear that they are trying to avoid paying out anything no matter what, even though it is clearly covered under the policy. I definitely will NOT be renewing and I highly recommend anyone thinking of taking out this policy to look elsewhere. Don't waste your money.

This is an ongoing problem, even today you guys rejected another claim I made which was clearly unjustifiable. I am absolutely outraged. I an have sent you a message with your requested information. So glad someone recommended this to me
Our dog is 7 years old and we’ve always had Woolworth’s pet insurance. He’s also on a Vetwest care plan. Every claim goes through them and it’s a seamless process.
Each time we’ve made a claim it has amazed me how much we get back.
If you love your dog and are happy to pay the premium, you won’t be disappointed.

Robbing con artists. DO NOT USE!
Rejected claim based on a condition our dog had 6 yrs ago and suggesting it was an existing, ongoing condition which is ridiculous as our dog has been perfectly healthy for the past 6 years. Nothing more than a bunch of brain dead con artists who steal your money. They should be sued for mis selling policies and being dishonest.

mers are treated. The sorry excuses for people who were involved are beyond pathetic at their jobs. They had highly qualified vets informing them about our dogs condition and they still 'think' they know more and are above qualified staff members. Well, you tell them from us that they are certainly not. They are nothing more than something to scrape off the bottom of your shoe with how we were treated. I just hope that none of them are pet owners themselves as they are nothing short of animal abusers who are happy to leave pets ill, distressed or worse.Similar opinion? I didn’t have a copy of my policy and didn’t know my policy number. I was trying to register on line for any future claims I may have. Natasha was suck a darling she helped me with my policy number and also sent duplicate copies of policy.

Inconsistent, Disorganized, Slow
We've been with Woolies Pet Insurance for nearly two years and made two claims.
1. Both claims were identical: same condition, same vet, same price. One was approved, the other rejected.
2. The staff also asked us to submit the ENTIRE vet history BOTH times.
3. The lodgement process lasted inexplicably over a month.
We have cancelled the cover and certainly do not recommend it.

Wouldn’t cover $2000 for life saving emergency surgery... Woolworths pet insurance is an absolute sham. Robbery.
Not good value, this insurance is expensive and covers nothing. Paid over 600 in premium over a year and nothing was ever covered, when we did desperately need it we were swiftly told no.

Excruciating!!!!!
This company stands out as the very worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. I dread making a claim. I dread receiving and having to read an email, SMS or letter from them in relation to a claim. I dread it because receiving communication from them in relation to a claim means two things. FURTHER DELAY on top of the already unhelpful standard delay and wasting hours of my time calling them to intercept some stuff up. Is it really that hard?!! I don't have the time for this nonsense. I don't pay you so that I have to work this hard. I've ...Read more

Wasting my time
I have just edited my review from 5 stars down to 1.
I’m so disappointed. They seemed so great to start with, were so quick after I submitted my claim.
Now it’s time for them to pay us and apperently it’s impossible to send their cheque.
Why did I ever think insurance with Woolies was ever worth it.

I got the same thing. This is a very normal consultation. The policy said that I have $300 limit annually.
But I was just told this consultation falls outside of the policy. What it means "outside"? When I bought it with $600 last year. I was not told anything outside of the policy. If there is something outside of the policy, why I have to buy it? I pay my consultation fees for my dog and pay Woolworths insurance separately? That is not like insurance.

t. $600 for your puppy annually. We assume the life is 10 years. That means $6000. I chose the premium one. The highest reimbursement rate is 80%. So that means if we pay it 10 years. Our dog could be covered with more than $7500 and we have to pay extra $1500. If the dog needs medical cost with more than $7500, it means this dog has to experience 2-3 surgeries during these ten years to cover our ten years' insurance cost. 2-3 surgeries just used our money to save our dog. Which kind of dog can experience 2-3 surgeries? If it is, I would prefer my dog's mercy killing instead of suffering pain. Additionally, we have to experience countless claims or outside of policy things and so on.We also have time cost.We put the money in their hand and argue with them. It is painful for us as well. But what if we don't buy it? We set one account for our dog. We put 13 dollars into that account every week. Ten years, that is $6000. $6000 plus the $1500 unreimbursed part. They are same. If our dog is healthy throughout the whole life, we take the money back. The puppy left for us. If something happen, we do not need to argue with them and help our dog immediately. That is the same.1 comment

First point of call is to reject claims without proper review & re-evaluation when supporting documentation is provided
When Woolworths Insurance and Hollard receive a claim, they will in the first instance reject it. When you provide vetinary documentation to prove them wrong, and they realise you aren’t giving up they will then try and dig up alternative old cases and find completely new reasons to reject your claims.
These ones being unrelated which they will lose when I go to the ombudsman. DO NOT trust this company with your pets’ health. They will do anything to do the wrong thing by their customers, rejection of any claim is their first point of call b...Read more
ecause their interests are profits in screwing over the little guys. They do not look into cases with care, diligence or consideration and their documented responses are flippant, vague and inconclusive, trying to provide you with as little detail as possible as to the reasons to make it difficult to prove your claim. They have also decided to apparently rewrite Medical and Vetinary books going against what vetinary surgeons provide you as support for "Pre existing conditions".1 comment

uppy, then when a problem developed later in life, it was suddenly called a pre existing problem, the same with his ear which has never been a problem and not a problem now! But according to Woolworths, it was Chronic and not covered!! ( His ears are perfectly fine and the problem was caused by water and scratching his ear) So bottom line is that they will avoid paying anything if they can! Woolworths go through your pet history when a claim is made with extreme rigour to ensure they can avoid paying a claim. I.e. had a sore ears 3 years ago and its sore again, that was deemed chronic. ( cause had no impact on their decision) Make your own judgement!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Excessive premiums and excess
My premium started out good but escalated quite rapidly heat policy renewal period. It ended up being $100 per month, $100 excess each different claim and $100 even if that claims been done before, each policy. Money in their pocket money in their pocket money in their pocket. They're just as bad as all the other insurance companies. Take take take. not to mention the fact that if you upgrade to take the excess away that doesn't mean the excess of removed from previous claims. They will still incur the same hundred-dollar excess. Additionally i...Read more
f you leave all the pre-existing issues will be voided from most other insurance companies. They really get you by the balls and try and milk every dollar out of everyone. If that's not bad enough. I paid for my first month or two of the new policy period but made a claim. Was paid for that claim. But when I went to cancel my policy they said that they would take that payment back. they won't give me my 2 months of premium paid, but they will take the payment they made back. Go figure. More take take take. I've since cancelled and an going with greencross.1 comment

Actually very surprised... well done Woollies!
I first got the policy very apprehensively as you hear the all stories about pet insurance in general, but my dog was getting older so I thought I should get some cover. Haven't needed it for a couple of years, until a few months ago when she developed an eye abnormality which led to eventual eye removal. I have to say, Woolworths have been nothing short of fantastic throughout the entire process. Informative & genuinely wanting to help on phone calls, pre-authorising claims in the space of hours & rapid responses to claim submissions including...Read more
2 day payment turnarounds of over $2500 in total over the course of the condition vet bills. I'm really impressed & it's been quite a surprise as I was expecting all kinds of pushback & delays - there was nothing of the sort. Quite the opposite in fact. I would guess that the ones writing the bad reviews on here probably haven't read or fully understood their policy T&Cs, which is absolutely imperative. My advice to those getting new cover would be; if in doubt, always call & ask them a million questions on your cover so you can manage your expectations & make sure you know exactly what will be covered & what will not. Thanks again Woollies!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Woolworths pet insurance paid out less that 3 days later money straight back into my bank !!
I called on Monday to see if I would be covered for a pet attack, the lady on the phone was very very helpful

Money Extortion
Woolworths pet insurance operate like the mafia extorting money from pet owners but not deliver on the product when a claim is made. My dog got bitten by a bee and the insurance never got back to me after I lodged my claim. I had to call them several times for them to look into it. They initially claimed that they only covered insects bites but not stings hence they would not cover my claim. When asked what type of Australian insects bite but not sting, the agent could not provide an answer. I eventually had to threaten them with actions and th...Read more
en they accepted to process the claim. After 1 year I noticed that my premium had automatically increased by over 30%. I was not even consulted for the rise but they just felt that they had the power to dig into my pocket since they had access to my credit card. Very cheap and canniving people. Now I am trying to get out of this horrible insurance and they have intentionally made sure that such info is not easily found on their website or not even available. I beg anyone who love their dogs out there not to waste money on such insurers. Not worth additional stress when you really need them.1 comment

Covered everything
We got Woolworths cover for our greyhound (ex-racer rescue). We had the cover from when he was around 7. Recently he became unwell and we were at the vet almost every day for a month, including lots of expensive trips to specialists. His diagnosis changed several times until finally, sadly, it was found that he had a brain tumour. We had no problems with Woolworths paying out 80% of all our bills, including his home euthanasia. Highly recommend and surprised to see all these negative reviews.
