I've never had a problem but no consolidation
I've never had a problem so I've never had to seriously test their customer service (only had simple queries) and the only annoying thing is that multiple packages couldn't be consolidated (or excess packaging removed) to save me on delivery fees (but that isn't a gotcha, they are upfront about it). I've used them for items in USA that the seller won't ship to Australia and the process, speed and website are fine. That said, with the Australian dollar down, plus adding gst, it has become less cost effective to buy from US, so I rarely do it now, however that is not Shopmate's fault.

Rip off.
$77.80 to send an under 500 grams smartwatch worth $150 USD. Billed at 1.73kg because Shopmate charges cubic volume of the stupid Amazon box. UPS would have been cheaper and wouldn't have charged me GST either. Never again. Hope this service shuts down.

Have sent 5 requests now for assistance to return parcels to sender with no response even though I have provided return labels. Have paid high costs for shipping of their parcels and still they have not been sent.

Shopmate is a front to steal your items. The term they like to use is "discarded" which means they aren't liable to replace the item since they didn't ship it and despite signing off to the original manufacturer that the item was safely delivered. Absolute scam.

Would give 0 stars if I could.
Ordered items that came to 39 usd - 56 aud and weighed 1.6kg. Auspost charged 52 aud to forward. Got a $10 discount as I used a code for first time user - and it will be the last time I use this service. To be charged almost as much as you paid for the goods in freight forwarding fees, not even including extra coverage, is an outrageous rip off. On top of that, I had to lodge a query for auspost to find my parcel, as it still had not been logged into the system five business days after it had been delivered to the facility. Poor service, waaay too expensive and not worth the money. Will find another way to get US purchases forwarded in future.

$60 to post a google home mini
Tiny little box. 11.5 cm x 11.5 cm x 10 cm and 500 grams or less.
They want to charge $58.50 to post it which is 50cents less than what the item costs with free postage from the Australian Google store.
Absolute scam. I've had items shipped from ebay sellers which weighed closer to 8kg and were about 6 times the size of the home mini boxes which cost me barely above $60.
I'm having to lose out on the item I bought because of shopmates absolutely screwed prices.

Just Awful. Rude staff. Australia post should go belly up.
Previously ordered a product had it sent over. Reordered and labelled a dangerous good. Packet of antihisatmines. They are charging to dispose of it $10. Someone will probably keep them. The whole service smacks of being a scam.
Do not use this service.

I envy the day Australia Post goes out of business
tl;dr - find literally any other mail forwarder. It doesn't matter which one, they will all be better than ShopMate.
I ordered a pair of running shoes from America. Size 12 mens, weighed 300 grams. Company doesn't ship to Australia. But hey! The ever oh-so-reliable Australia Post has an international warehouse located in Portland that will forward my package to me! I had been checking out other mail forwarders before but wasn't familiar with their brands so had been turned off using them. I really wanted these shoes that weren't available in A...Read more
US so coming across Australia Post was a godsend. The signing up process was easy - create an account, they give you a special address, and away you go. After perusing ShopMate's website I found their rates page, linked here (https://shopmate.auspost.com.au/our-rates/shipping-rates). You don't have to scroll very far down to find the "example product" - women's shoes, 1.5kg, TOTAL PRICE 46.60. A bit exxy, but hey, these were good running shoes I was after. My ultra lightweight running shoes, again, weighed 300g, so I figured the price would be maybe a little bit less as they weighed 1.2kg less than the example product but I didn't get my hopes up and assumed it would probably be about the same. So I ordered my running shoes and Australia Post got my package pretty quickly (thanks solely to the competence of the company I ordered from and the American postal system). But this is where my fortune ran out. I get an email from ShopMate saying my package had arrived and I needed to pay to get it shipped. I log in, enter my details, and (get ready for it) - I'm being charged $97 to ship the shoes. NINETY-SEVEN DOLLARS FOR A 300 GRAM PACKAGE. I was absolutely gobsmacked. How could something so light, so similar to an 'example product' cost 2.5 TIMES MORE than the quoted price on your website?Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Reliable
Reasonable time frame, clear cost estimates, reasonable customer service response times. Used a couple of times and the packages arrived fine. Had to learn what cubic weight was to understand where the additional costs were coming from. Here is an example of my charges a year ago:
Chargeable weight: 7.5kg
Package value: $336.15 (US$249.00)
Base charge: $22.95
Weight charge: $74.25
Voucher discount: -$14.58 (code found on OzBargain: 15OFF)
GST for value of good: $33.62
GST for ShopMate shipping and service fees: $8.20
Total: $124.50...Read more

I cant fault the service and reliability of Shop Mate, however the pricing is the most ludicrous Ive ever seen, the cost is unjustifiable and the pricing table is misleading on their website. How the can charge $100+ for a 2kg package is obscene.

Hard to use, inefficient and expensive
ShopMate in theory is a great idea, as so many US companies won't post outside their own country. I opened an account, then went ahead and ordered a gift for my daughter from American eBay. However, three weeks after I got an email confirming my item had arrived at ShopMate's facility in Portland, Oregon, nothing had arrived here. I got in touch with Australia Post. They called me next day and claimed the parcel was there but was "unassigned", as my eBay seller had neglected to include my "suite number" (my personal ID for their Portland facili...Read more
ty) on the address label. I knew this was untrue, as the seller had included a copy of the shipping label in my invoice, and the "suite number" was in the second line, large and clear. The Australia Post call handler then "assigned" the package to me, and said I would receive confirmation that the package was ready for the value to be declared to Australian Customs for import. I then received an email asking me if I still wanted my parcel. I logged on, only to be told the parcel was "on hold" for assessment by Australia Post. After another email from me, they finally got their act together and let me know I could declare the value for shipping. I did so - US$25, or about $36 Australian. ShopMate's postage charge was then applied - A$35, or almost the same charge as the cost of the goods. Then I had to email them a copy of my eBay supplier invoice. So I ordered the item in early September, and it's now 23rd October and they have only just posted it today from the US. Conclusion: ShopMate is expensive, fiddly, and doesn't work as it's supposed to - overall just not worth the time, trouble or money.1 comment

I purchased a legal item in America, it's 100% legal in Australia. However due to them using singapore airlines at times they refused to send me the item due to them not having a customs agent in the warehouse in Portland anymore.
