Hi,
I have recently purchased a Breville BES870. It apparently works normally, but after finishing an espresso extraction, it makes a gurgling noise that lasts about 20 to 30 seconds. Is this noise normal?
Thanks in advance!
1 answer
yes,. it backflushes and purges water after each shot is brewed. Never remove the drip tray during this phase because it backfushes into the tray!

Why does my machine not go past "pre infusion"? Our machine is 7 mths oI'd. It has done this off and on since we purchased it.
Please help us. Thank you.

Hi Alida...you might have to experiment a little with the bean grind control & try different ‘finer’ & ‘coarser’ settings. I’ve had similar & just try & few different settings.
Had a similar problem with my machine. Breville kept blaming the quality of the beans. After months of complaining they finallly paid for it to be freighted to a repairer (I live in regional Qld) Surprise!!! It was faulty & they repaired it

My pressure gauge needle moves midway into the grey zone then after just a few seconds there is a "pop" sound like a valve has opened the needle drops back to zero while the water continues to flow resulting in a poor result, I'm thinking it may be a faulty pressure relief valve, has anyone else had this problem? The machine is a Breville Express BES870

Sometimes my steam function turns off before milk is hot enough. Why is this? I can restart it but curious if this is intentional?

Is this machine a dual boiler please ?
1 answer
no ! dual boiler is for someone who is so fast....... that they can pull a shot and steam milk at the same . it does not improve the quality of your coffee........

When I am attempting to froth the cream with the steam wand everything starts out fine, pump starts up and the steam is coming out strong. But after a few seconds the pumping stops and the steam dies down. I have to restart the steamer switch by turning to standby and then back to steam again before it will start shooting steam again. It’s taking way too long to get the cream/milk to froth. Any ideas what could be the reason? I have had the machine only a month a a half. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks
1 answer
Hi Ralph, that doesn’t sound right. The steamer should keep steaming unless you run out of water. I’d take it back under warranty

Hi i have a couple of question.
1) my.mc when turning On after while the power trip?
2) Restart again then no tripping occur. Boiler starts heating up after a while try pull shot but no water came out. There is a sound when press the single shot button. Seems like the pump not extracting water.
Could you advise? Thanks in advamce

Our coffee extraction was perfect(25-30seconds) until we changed Our beans to Vittoria. I have put it to the finest setting(1) already and it still extracts 18-20 seconds. And the grind amount is already filled up to the basket. Please help :(

There is great you tube videos for machine I looked up is one guy who has machine and covers everything i watched his video for doing the beans he suggested starting at 7 his videos are under Breville barista express bes870, moon's coffee
different coffees have varying levels of oils. this causes not only build up in between the burrs, but great variation as to how fine you should grind. remove both the bean hopper and then the upper burr of the grinder. no tools are required to do this! now you can see all the stuff trapped ! use the brush supplied with your machine and vacuum !

Are you able to adjust the cup height? Coffee and/or water splash in and around the cups
1 answer
Can’t adjust cup level unfortunately, but with a regular mug or espresso cup, won’t splash luckily as doesn’t just pour out but evenly and steadily comes out of spouts

I bought this machine for Christmas for the family. I have owned and operated 4 breville coffee machines over the post 15 years and they have always been brillant. This one the pressure gauge needle does not move. Not at all. Is it faulty?
2 answers
Sounds like it. Get some beans and test with different coarseness levels and tamping pressure. I have had ground coffee mostly so far but it is a fairly fine grind and the pressure grind ends up at the higher end of the central grey area, probably 1 o'clock on the dial.
I have already tested it thoroughly. Ex barista/bar manager here. The pressure gauge does not move at all not a mm.

Im trying to get my expression shot in the espresso range for a double shot cup, and Ive tried many combos of grind/grind amount and the pressure gauge is barley moving, ive tried the most common one course 4/5 grind amount 11 o clock 1 o clock still nothing any tips, Im using Victoria coffee
1 answer
Usually the finer the grind of coffee, the better the result, as the water will do a better job of penetrating the coffee granules to get a nice crema.
Try it on the finest grind. Use the double shot. Fill with ground coffee, tap on bench to let it settle, then grind more, making a small mound of coffee. Tamp it & then put it in the machine. It should feel firm but not impossible to screw in.
If still no luck, try watching some "how to do" videos online. Good luck.

My BES 860 has worked well but lately I can only get one shot from the machine, then it won't pressure up and the steam wand seems to be less effective. Sometimes it won't even do one shot. It seems to be affected by the temperature, once it heats up no pressure, but straight from cold, there is pressure, once the temperature is up to correct level (the buttons work). So, my wife gets the one shot a day it will give me, I miss out! Doesn't seem to be related to grind size, has been cleaned with both vinegar and the tablet. When I get no pressure, hot water goes straight to the collection tray, with just a little into the coffee. Any suggestions? (had a new pump installed no long ago)
