Barista Express BES870

When dispensing the coffee there is nothing coming out of the coffee basket and water and coffee starts spitting out the sides with the build up of pressure. I changed the seal and cleaned the basket with the pin but still the same result . Spitting out of the sides of the dispenser and no coffee coming through at all. Any ideas ?

What grind level is the coffee? Might be too fine? And are you using a regular basket (theres one with only one hole thats not really recommended)

Hi all,

Machine is 5 months old and recently it's been way over extracting and getting quite a wet puck. Water just keeps running no matter if 1 cup or 2 cup button is selected. Have reset the timers back to factory settings but hasn't seemed to make a difference.

Any ideas on what's at fault? Grind not course enough or too fine? Fault?

Hi, my grinder suddenly stopped working. I had just used it and then go to grind more coffee immediately after and I got no response. It's like the button isn't working. I have tried resetting the machine and cleaning the grinder thoroughly. Any ideas?

Is that bean hopper locked properly? There is small lock clip in bean hopper and machine to lock check if thats broken or something stuck there.

Yeah it's locked properly. When I cleaned out the grinder I was pressing the manual switch inside it to see if it was just the switch where the grinds come out but that one didn't really do anything either. Every now and then the grinder would move the slightest bit, but nothing happens.

Hi, I'm having problems with my Breville BES870 steamer. It is not steaming at all and just squirts water out of the wand.
I had just finished doing a descale on the machine and was rinsing the wand when I realised there was no steam.
Have I done something wrong?

Coffee begins to extract almost immediately, when pressure gauge is still in pre-extraction zone. Pressure rarely builds to above the beginning of the extraction zone. Programmed extraction amounts not resetting.
I’m using fresh beans and machine is regularly cleaned and descaled (with vinegar as per instructions).

I have a brand new Barista Express and the filter light won't stop flashing. Have cleaned the bean hopper and still can not get lights to stop flashing. So, grinder has not operated at all. Should I return it or is there something else I could try?

Brief: had this for past 5 years.
Alex, try this please even if you have done it before:
- remove hopper and empty
- put your finger in there - POWER OFF - and gather all the beans left over in the middle of the burr (thing with the handle) remove as many as you can to do that, put back the hopper and lock it and grind that surplus you just moved in the centre.
While you there clean it.
Try now! All you should of have is a blockage and the machine is telling you.
Take Care Serge, just here to help and not a Breville man.

Hi, we've had our Breville for a week now, and for the first week we used it twice a day and were pulling wonderful shots. Yesterday the machine turned on as usual, we warmed it up and then ground our coffee. After the portafilter was locked in and the double shot button pressed, nothing came out. It made sounds like the pump was working and water should have been flowing, but nothing happened. We've tested it without coffee and can't get any water to come out. The steam wand and hot water work perfectly, all buttons work. The pressure gauge doesn't move, and no water comes from the group head.
Very frustrating and not sure how to troubleshoot. Have read and tried every suggestion this far. Any ideas?!
Thanks in advance!

Make sure your grinder coffee is not too coarse, keep trying until you get it right.

I am having the same issue with my BES860. If pressing the two cup button with no group handle in it, the water will just keep flowing out & would empty the full water container if I let it. I have tried resetting back to factory settings multiple times and would work straight away but the next day would bug out on me again. I’ve also tried unplugging at the power point & plugging back in, resetting again & still not fixing the issue & will not even revert back to factory settings anymore :( HELP!

Thanks for the reply. I eventually took mine to a service centre.
They found the water pump faulty. They replaced it and also gave the machine a full service descaling etc. total cost $130. Machine now performs like new

Hello.
I have used the machine for a little over 2 years now and noticed that occasionally, when pressing the two cups button, the machine doesn't stop extraction automatically (have to stop it manually).

What could it be and how can I fix it?

Cheers

You can preset the amount that comes out when pressing one or two cups. Maybe if you haven't tried this might be worth a go. Should be in manual.

Bjorn
Bjorn

Hi Tan, thank you for your reply. If have tried that without success. The issue is sporadic so it's hard to pinpoint the cause. Anybody know how the machine measure the volume?

Brody J.
Brody J.

We have not had this issue, are you cleaning the machine regularly? As could just be doing this when blocked, make sure you have a blind filter and backwash with water and see if that helps.
