Hello.
I have used the machine for a little over 2 years now and noticed that occasionally, when pressing the two cups button, the machine doesn't stop extraction automatically (have to stop it manually).

What could it be and how can I fix it?

Cheers

You can preset the amount that comes out when pressing one or two cups. Maybe if you haven't tried this might be worth a go. Should be in manual.

Hi Tan, thank you for your reply. If have tried that without success. The issue is sporadic so it's hard to pinpoint the cause. Anybody know how the machine measure the volume?

We have not had this issue, are you cleaning the machine regularly? As could just be doing this when blocked, make sure you have a blind filter and backwash with water and see if that helps.

The machine is no longer cutting out after an espresso has been poured. Any idea how to fix? Resetting does not work.

Hi there, recently I was given the BES860(5 years old) and been enjoying the real coffee. But I've noticed that the dial of grinder probably has been broken as I can't have a variety of the grind size even though I tried with different numbers... Also, I've noticed that my machine's dial is pretty hard to turn and there is not a click sound when I turned to a different number. I understand that this machine is old and probably need to bring a service station but apart from professional work, can I try something to fix this issue? Is anyone had a similar experience?

Clean the grinder by the instruction then try.
If no results: next give the full on clean, recommended only if needed, being oldish do it, instruction are in the manual too.
I have mine for 5+ and always do the basic clean of the grinder every time it is empty - well each 3 month really. There is heaps of oil in coffee beans.
Service thé machine by the book it’s basic stuff in the manual. Take care

Can I empty or the water after I've finished using the machine for the day? Or should the filter be submerged all the time?
I just don't like the slime feeling when water is left to sit in containers....

Hi Breville representative
I see there are a few people with the same issue and NO response from the Breville team! Why not?
The water quantity keeps running more than the pre set and more than when it is manually programmed.
Come on guy's, is this a fault with this machine? and or is there something to fix please?
We don't pay this sort of money for the machine not to work properly.
Thank you in advance

Had this machine for over 5 years using on a daily basis. I just noticed the machine was still heating even if it was turned OFF and gets very hot. I now have to unplug it from the wall socket. The machine tends to blow steam when I turn it back on which is unusual for me. The coffee is too hot and doesn't pour normally, has no creama and poor taste. Thinking I should throw it away and get a new one...but just checking in case there is an easy fix ? thanks

5+ for me.
-Do a full clean with the tablets. May be do it twice for good measure.
-Then run a coffee WITHOUT coffee a few times, head cleaning/rinse that is what you are doing now.
- Do one more clean tablet thing.

Hi,
My Breville Barista Express machine is now stopping mid-cycle when steaming milk, it just comes to a complete stop. It won’t re-start until I turn the steam off and wait until it makes the loud whooshing sound, then I can finish off steaming the milk. Why is it suddenly doing this and how can I fix it? I regularly clean the machine and only use filtered water.
Regards,
Pauletta Watson

Seems to me like a lack of water supply. Have you changed the filter in the water container. If not may be a blockage somwhere in the water supply system. So far no problems with mine. Hope this may help.

Thanks Ken. I haven’t changed the filters. Where do you find the machine’s model number so I buy the correct filters?

Hi, my Breville barista express single cup button once pressed doesn't automatically stop. I have reset it to default but that's done nothing. This has been an intermittent issue but now does it all the time. I also believe the double shot is starting to do the same thing.

As far as what I read in the manual you need to program it by pressing the program button the the single cup while flashing the stop it with the single cup button once your happy with the extraction. After this you'll have saved that extraction time.

Coffeelover
Coffeelover

In my manual it says to default the cup measurements to 30ml/60ml to hold the program button until it beeps the times. This hasn't worked though. I descaled the machine with both tablets and white vinegar but the problem is still occurring.

Same here!!! It just doesn’t stop pouring even after I’ve reset it to its default settings :(
Did you end up fixing the issue?
I’m thinking it might be a sensor issue??

My machine has started to trip out the electric when I push the single or double buttons. Its also a little weak on the steam pressure through the wand. I know they are prone to leaking around the top of the wand. I'm wondering if its connected i.e. steam/ water leaking into the button array and causing a short. The rest of the machine appears fine.

I've had my BES870 for around 16 months now and this weekend I've noticed the grinder making strange noises and taking much longer to grind coffee. I've emptied the beans and tried to lift the outer burr using the wire handle but it seems to be stuck. I don't want to force it but I also need to find out what's going on. I only use fresh coffee that I buy from the Central Markets every couple of weeks and I don't store it in the fridge or anything so I can't understand what's going on. Great coffee machine and makes far far better coffee than our old non-Breville. It would be such a pity for such a good machine to break down so early.

Barista Express BES860

Good Morning
Our Breville Barista Express BES860 has started to leak water excessively onto the bench top and the pressure in the milk steamer has dropped excessively. It takes quite awhile to heat the milk. Does this mean this appliance is of no further use or is it repairable at a reasonable one price.
Kind regards
Graeme

It just means it's time for a clean mate. Mine did the same a while back so I just did a full cleaning with the sash of cleaner in the water as it says in the manual and run the cleaning program by holding a few buttons and running the steam. The next time you fill it up and use it it'll be fine.

I just cleaned (twice as disc didn't completely dissolve first time) and descaled my machine but the cleaning light is still solid on. Only caught two beeps at end of cleaning cycle. What does this mean? Machine is less than 3 months old, used twice daily and has been cleaned/descaled regularly. I've just replaced water filter too. Thanks in advance (PS love this machine and hope nothing's wrong). Vanessa

The cleaning cycle should be an automatic 5-minute process purging throughout into the drip tray. Regardless of whether the tablet dissolved, if there was not an automatic 5-minute purge process but rather manual shot button presses to dissolve the tablet, the process was not completed correctly. The process is activated only by (machine off) pressing and holding the 2 CUP, 1 CUP, then POWER and holding all 3 until the Clean Me light begins to flash, then release. Should this not resolve the matter, please give us the opportunity to correct the situation by contacting our dedicated customer care team at 1300 139 798 (M-F, 8am-5pm) or at [email protected]

Thanks for the reply. I did follow those instructions first time and did another cleaning cycle this morning before calling support. Unfortunately trouble shooting steps didn't fix it either but I have a case logged now and they're sending me a descale sachet to see if that fixes the problem. Machine is still working fine and they said ok to keep using it with the light on. I'm confident it will get resolved. In the meantime I'll continue to enjoy my excellent machine

I had the same problem. Was following the descaling operation you mentioned. In the instruction manual there is a further descaling operation which needs to be completed. The descale light should go out when that operation is finished.

I have a new one of these, replaced under Product Care, after the previous one died. So I know how to do the cleaning cycle! However, both times I’ve done the cleaning cycle, the water has come out the back of the machine, not through the group head. It’s like the group head is blocked. NO water at all comes through. It just all leaks out the hose at the back right of the machine. And then it dumps the excess.

If it was a new machine, it would be under product care but my product care ran out the week after I got this replacement so not sure it’s covered even though it is a new machine and only a couple of months old.

I have a feeling it is going to cost me money....

I did just find a post that as long as the water is going into the drip tray, there’s nothing to worry about.... Except that the ‘Clean Me’ light is still on!!

1 answer
Breville
BrevilleBreville

The Clean Me process is supposed to back flush solution internally, so the correct way is that no water will flow through the group head but rather purge internally to the drip tray. Your new machine has the most recent updated cleaning disc and is performing hte process correctly now. All is well.
