total crap

the heater is 7 1/2 years old, mother board failed a month ago. after a $210 call out fee and $750 to replace mother board now code 56 is showing and the heater wont turn on. definitely will not buy or recommend Brivis. Gas ducted heaters should last around 20 years plus.

Purchased in August 2021.

The Brivas Starpro 521 2018

published

The Brivas starpro 521 2018 unit replaced a 30yo Vulcan downflow unit and the difference was amazing. The Brivas unit was mounted in the ceiling cavity over the bathroom. Note, you wouldn't want it mounted over living/sleeping rooms as it does hum along when the motor is driving all that warm air. The soft start is a great feature. It doesn't take long to warm our large 2 bedroom unit, and it maintains a steady temperature. The controller is easy to use.

Purchased in June 2021 at Camberwell Electrics.

Great service

published

Had an issue with my 2 year old Brivis Starpro 630. 5 months after initial service. Heater would not light, Code 50 issue. Called to report the issue. Call centre phoned later in day to advise a service team will come out to site next day, between 1 and 3. Team arrived at 2, found the issue, resolved it (ants in system). Very happy with outcome, and happy with advice and service. I am ordering a Brivis Aircon to run off the same networker so was a little worried. However following what transpired, I have no issues. Well done to the Rinnai team, Integra and the Call centre. Thank you

A organisation in decline as illustrated by failing product...

published

Fact: StarPro takes 3 times longer to heat my house than the vintage Brivis it replaced.
Fact: Currently waiting for 4th service call. I expect parts to continue to be replaced knowing all previous service included replacing critical components.
Fact: Wait times "UNDER WARRANTY" consistently exceeded 7 days.
Fact: Cannot rely on Brivis as a provider of such a critical item for Canberra winters.

Purchased in May 2021 at Retailer for A$2,800.00.

Forever needs reseting and breaking down

published

Bought this 5 years ago, when running its fine, but every 2-3 months it will fault with the same code and require a reset (Error 56) sometime resetting it will work, sometimes we have to call brivis and have to wait 2-3 weeks for a technician to come out. last time the unit magically started working 2 weeks while waiting for a tech and we were having to running little electric heaters. were now contemplating the expense of replacing the unit with another brand in the hope of having less inconvenience.

Every 2nd year something has gone wrong and to get a technician out costs a fortune - there excuse it needs a service. An appliance that runs for about 2 mths of the year and needs servicing every 2nd year is a complete rip off along with the building company that supplies them in there houses Burbank - steer well clear of them.

Don't buy this product

published

We had a new Brivis ducted heater installed 3 years ago by Oliver Air Conditioning Mona Vale, and have had a number of problems with it, with various faults causing it to shut down periodically (usually when we most need it). Oliver Air are unresponsive (probably caught up with Brivis service calls) and it's impossible to get through to Brivis. Even though the system cost $7,000 three years ago we are already thinking of replacing it. A really poor product and customer service - there are many better products on the market and I would definitely avoid Brivis.

Not Happy

published

Seriously Brivis a two year old unit that has given up the ghost, then wait 50 minutes on the phone only to be told I have a 10 day wait for a warranty repair in the middle of winter. Its ironic that you are now part of Rinnai and clearly you have adopted their service model. We no longer use Rinnai products on all our projects and its looks like we will be doing the same with Brivis YOUR LOSS..

It's ok.

We have had ours for around 2 years. Seen a few error codes over that time. Ducts are in the floors which is fine. Price was good. We installed the duct work ourselves. Mainly resetting the device cleared the codes and it works properly. Then it would end up doing it again. Have called support once which is how we found out about resetting it. They were very helpful. The heat coming out is pretty good. We run ours all night and day and the costs arnt huge.

Failed under warranty.

Appalling. Computer failed. Technician came. Fixed it apparently. Did no physical testing. Went to use heater. Didn't work. Not there problem. Appalling. Would not ever touch them.
Expecting us to pay for a service charge. Still under warranty too. Expecting to need to go to court over this to resolve. In meantime no heating.

May as well be burning money

published

My Brivis ducted gas heater is incredibly inefficient. 4 bedroom home and my gas bill was almost $1500 for the winter quarter! I've recently purchased a reverse cycle and I seriously believe it's cheaper to install a reverse cycle in 3 bedrooms in the house than run a ducted Brivis heater. Much cheaper in the long run. These units must be very poorly designed as they seem to burn a hell of a lot of gas to do even the most basic of heating. Plus the ducting design near the unit itself is poor as is not made of a more resilient material to withstand the hotter temps so it invariably deteriorates quickly and is a maintenance nightmare.

Brivis Double Dipping!!!

published

I have a hx35i installed 3 years ago and in that time, my $8000 unit has gone down on me twice. The first time it cost me $400 to get fixed.
This time they've charged me $239 for labour plus parts. The thing is that the guy didn't have the part and now needs to come back and charge me an extra $150 for labour plus parts!!
Don't you think this is Double Dipping Brivis?
Then when you call them, they keep you waiting on the phone for half an hour and then book you in 2weeks later. Now I need to wait another week or so until the part gets manufactured!!!!! Surely this company isn't a two person show, the lady at the call centre and the service guy!! YOUR SERVICE IS
ABSOLUTLY DISGUSTING BRIVIS!!!
Never buying Brivis again.

Internal corrosion and faulty installation

published

I had two of these units installed. At one property the gas bill went sky high so first the meter was changed and supply line pressure checked then after many delays Brivis examined the unit and found the return sensor was not properly installed, so unit was running day and night.
At the other the unit developed internal corrosion from faulty manufacture which killed the ECB $700 plus labour to fix corrosion, unit 4.5 years old. Better to replace...

Would the main fan be a mayor part in the unit?
I thought it would be seeing it the part that sends the heat to the rooms

Hi Allen C,

Thanks for the question.

The fan is a major component of the Ducted Heating system. If you are experiencing issues with your heater please contact our technical help desk for technical support or 1st Care Service to book a service on 1300 555 545.

Alternatively you may book on line following the link provided - https://www.rinnai.com.au/support-resources/online-service-booking/.

I did and they told me it was 9month out of its warranty and there was nothing that they would do
If I knew that they would only last just over the manufacturers warranty I wouldn’t have purchased the unit

Allen C.
Allen C.

I just call that number and they just said she will not help me very poor customer service
Seeing how the fan would be a major part in the unit. With it braking down makes the unit non operational this would be a major fault in the unit under AUSTRALIA consumer law being only 5 years and 9 months old when you should reasonably think you would get much longer out of the unit

StarPro Series

I have a pro star max HX30 heater and am looking at a replacement. What do you recommend?

Hi, we replaced our Brivis with a StarPro SP630, a larger model. Our house is not well insulated so it does come on a fair bit, and obviously costs are then higher. I suspect that it would work extremely well in a well insulated home.
We had one issue and it was attended to very quickly. Ants decided to build a home in the top part of the unit.
The repair men suggested to keep a spray handy. Other than that no issues.
However ensure you do your homework. Get some more advice other than mine.
Hope this is of some help and use.

Bunyip.
