We built our home with you in 2003. How long is the lifetime structural guarentee valid for? The reason I ask is we too have huge cracks in walls and the corness is coming away in a few rooms droping plaster on the floor. Thanks carole

I’m sorry that’s something you need to ask Content living about. i don’t think their is a lifetime structural warranty as many factors can play the part, eg buildings being build around you or what type of land you have built on etc etc. I’m sure if you just ask them they will give you an answer

Hi there,
I was wondering. Are we supposed to be paying for the electricity and water bills?? In 57 days we got a bill of $71?
Still think it's unfair for us to pay for it since we don't know what it's being used on.
Thanks, Courtney

Yes you do pay for water, electricity and gas. Regardless of you not living there yet it is still your property as it doesn't belong to the builder. This is our second build and we've been charged for those, other friends and family who have built also have had the same. So it is normal, just that your probably haven't experienced building before. Also, if there is fence on the boundary of the property that hasn't been claimed from the previous owners of the property or can't be claimed by your neighbour due to not having a 'building' on the property, don't be surprised to receive a bill on the mail from your neighbours for your half of the boundary fence. Many people get a real surprise and don't feel that they should be paying anything. You can go to court but court will say you owe for half the fence, it is the law in W.A. and also other states of Australia, but may be slightly different.

Many people get really shocked about this because no one talks about it... Nor tells you. Unless you are building in a 'suburb' with landscaping and fencing packages you don't need to worry about it.

Hope you have a great build :)

Hi Content living- John,

We're seriously considering building with your company but will like to know how long it would take in Perth Metro. It's an established suburb with possible A class soil, flat block. Could you give an indicative timeline?

Hi Farabove,

Thankyou for your question and for considering to build with Content Living!

There are many factors that need to be taken into consideration for the length of time it will take to complete your new home. These include but are not limited to the size of the home, amount of inclusions eg. Floorcoverings, blinds, internal painting to name but a few.
Please contact me directly on my email [email protected] with the specifics of your home and I will be more than happy to review it with you.

Hi Gino,

I am looking for a builder as my house loan been approved. I have visited many display houses of different builders and every one have different view points and confused me. Before I finalized a builder it is grate if you can give some information base on your company view.
* what is your time frame for finishing a building (One story house 4x2)?
* will your finish job be a perfectly or not?
* Can I do the flooring if I want?
* Is there any option for owner work like- gardening, flooring?
* Who will pay water & electricity bills during construction (tradies might not think about saving energy & water)?
Thanks!

Hi,

If I sign up with Content, how long does it take for a building contract as my title is releasing in a month's time ? This will be my first home and hence just want to know how long will the build time be from slab down ? My block is in Banjup-Calleya Estate.

THanks

Hi. From the time the slab is put down to handover of the keys you are looking at about 8-9 months depending on how busy Content are and the availability of good tradesmen. Don't hesitate in asking any questions from the team or any worries you have. I am not sure where you are building but down south (Busselton area) the building is hectic with new builds appearing daily. I would have love to have my home finished before this but I also wanted my home finished to a high standard, so had to be patient. If you visit your home during the building stage and you see something is not right always follow up on it so changes can be made earlier and not later. Good luck and if you have any more queries only to happy to answer them. Caryll

From signed up, they ask for 360 days, you should able to see it in contract, from slab down it take me nearly 9 months(no wall painting and floor covering).

1 answer

Tan

My understanding is a lot of factors are required prior to pouring the concrete. These include site survey, site prep, all variations confirmed with drawings, shire approvals, allocation of liaison officer and building supervisor, and availability of tradesmen. In the meantime, keep in touch with your prestart officer as they will be able to tell you when a liaison officer will be allocated to take up the construction phase. A little tip while you are waiting for the construction phase is to check the drawings for any changes that you might have missed as any changes after prestart is chargeable on top of the cost of work. Example: fridge, washer or dishwasher height, electrical plans, or plumbing for fridge. We only realized that nowadays most new fridges require additional plumbing for fridge. We didn't want to pay for the extra on top of the cost of plumbing and decided to hunt and compromise with a fridge that does not require the water plumbing installed for fridge. Cheers.

Very nervous !!!! Looking at building with Content Living in Busselton ..southwest has anyone had a build experience they can share with me ...Ive read the comments but Ive read pretty much all the comments of all builders and they have good and bad in all....Confused don't know who to go with ???

I have just built with them and we have had a good experience with them. You can read my comments about them. We also researched a lot of builders before going with them and we haven't regretted it.
Two of my friends built with them and I also spoke with four other people that built with them before we signed on. There is not a builder that will be 100% foolproof but you do get good value for money with Content Living. Some of the stuff we got, other builders will charge you a lot of money for it. Everybody that has been to our house has been impressed with the finishing. It also depends on the supervisor you get to some extent. Ours was brilliant. A really nice guy.
My advice to you if you are building with Content is to go for the Diamond specifications as it comes with most of the upgrades as standard. That way you will not miss anything that would have added value and quality to your house, You get top end finishing. Also, visit the site daily to keep an eye.

Hi, my partner and I are currently looking to build with Content living. We have found a house design we like, however we would like to make several changes to it eg: push walls out an extra metre here and there to make it bigger and replace the existing master suite with one from another house design. I know its difficult to estimate the cost of each change made without getting a quote from the builders but has anyone done something similar? Can anyone tell me how much they were charged for each modification? I'm getting inpatient waiting to hear from the builders! Thanks

Hi Rosie. I found the costs quite reasonable. I made sure I made all the major changes at negotiation stages so I didn't get any surprises they didn't charge me to move internal walls only if I added walls or plumbing needed moving. I did move my bedroom to the back and put a sliding door to the Alfresco from my room, extendingt he length of the alfresco and putting in the door and plasterboard ceiling cost $3900 I thought that was very reasonable. Happy to check what I paid for other things if you want. Thanks chris

We did exactly that. We replaced the bedroom bathroom setup from another house we liked. The consultant priced this without any hesitation or requirement to commit. We also moved wall out under eaves etc and he just drew it up and costed it for us overnight or with simple things on the spot. We did this at the ellenbrook display

Hi Rosie. My experience was much the same as those above. Shifted some internal walls at no extra charge. Closed off the theatre room and added doors, also added doors to the walk in robes, all at very reasonable prices. A little surprised the sales consultant is slow in responding. Our consultant was very attentive and would respond to any variation enquiry, with a formal estimate of cost, and amended drawings, within twelve hours. He often forwarded emails late at night/early hours of the morning. Best to have your variations priced before pre-start. I have found Content to be a very reasable builder to deal with, and have built us a very good quality home. Perhaps go to a different display, and try a different consultant. Regards Grant.

Hello, my partner and I are building in singleton with content living and we have been told that our pad will be down next week. We are also expecting a baby (surprise) the first week of feb 2014. Do you think it's possible our home will be finished by the time our baby arrives? We are currently staying at my inlaws holiday home in the country as our old home sold and it was impossible to find a rental. We are hrs away from any hospitals and any family and with my husband doing fifo it's just me and my 2yr old hence why I'm wanting to get in the new house before bubs arrives. Is it worth letting the builder know the situation or would they not really care? Is it possible that the house will be finished at the end of January giving them 6mths to build? So stressed out.

Hi the pad to our house was down mid April. We are expecting handover to be mid October, which is about twenty four weeks from start to finish. It is possible your house may be competed, however the weather can have quite an influence on how long it will all take. I have found Content Living to be quite helpful. It is definately worth making them aware of your situation, but I would be very surprised if they give you a commitment to meet your deadline, partially due to there being to many factors beyond their control. But it never hurts to ask.

Can anyone tell me how the long the structural warranty is with Content Living? We purchased our home 4 years ago (when it was already 4 years old) and our wet areas all have quite severe structual damage. I'm told that this should be covered under the structural warranty of the house but I don't know how long that is. I am sure that we are out of warranty by now but I didn't think it would hurt to ask :)

What happened to your wet areas LJ1234. ? Did the floor break up? Or was it the wall falling in? I hope all is alright with you and Content Living fix it free of charge. My research shows a 6 year warranty minimum is given by most builders, but Commodore Homes, Summit, National Homes all give lifetime structual guarantees.
