I am thinking of replacing a HardieDux HDE125l November 1988. I think it’s a dual element. The base is rusting badly. It is in a holiday home - indoors. I have had no problems at all but it won’t last another 30 years. I’m looking at a 250l continuous tariff as there are more people at peak times. The property is on an island so I’d use a local plumber. I turn the heater off if we are away a few weeks. Is this a good idea? Can I get a 250 dual element?

Hi Frank,

We currently only manufacture 315L twin element tanks.

If the unit is not being used for a period of time, the power to the element should be turned off. The power to the tank should be switched back on about 24 hours prior to use to allow the water to heat to temperature and be properly sanitised. Before powering the tank back on, open a hot tap fully to discharge any air that might be trapped in the system.

Hello. My hot water system keeps tripping the safety switch on my meter box could this be the thermostat? Should I contact a plumber or a sparky? Cheers

Hi Nelg,

There could possibly be an issue with the tank or the electrics in the tank.

Please give our After Sales & Service a call on 1300 365 115 Option 2 with the serial # of the tank and one of our Service Agents can quote to attend and repair (if repairable) or replace.

Hi. They are steel. Not copper. The description states: "Steel tanks feature long life enamel from A. O. Smith and a thicker anode to maximise tank durability"

Hope this helps.

The plastic inserts are there to prevent entry of foreign objects before installation. They should be removed just before connection.

Dux
Dux H.Dux

Hi Rassie,

The plastic inserts are part of the internal plumbing of the unit, they are not removed.

The plumber simply screws the nipple into the socket and in turn the nipple screws into the plastic, this is a part of the product design. The plumber still uses their normal sealing methods on the nipple.

Proflo 50W124P (50L, Plug In)

Hi.
My proflo 50l is brand new snd keeps activating circuit breaker in main meterbox. I pushed the reset switch the first time this happened but now its bypassing the the unit and settling off house breaker in meterbox. In fact this happens as soon as you plug the unit into the PowerPoint.
Could this be fried thermostat or possibly dodgey element?
PowerPoint has been checked and no fault there. Any suggestions for a remedy to this problem would be appreciated?
Thanx
Scottie.

Hi Scottie if the unit is brand new you need to get back to the manufacturer or supplier/installer. it seems like a product fault

Can the "seal' on the base of the sysytem be replaced as water is leaking from here?

2 answers
Marcus
Marcus

Dear Janelle, our system has just been installed and is brand new. If a seal is faulty it most definitely is replaced under warranty. My understanding is that we have a ten-year warranty of which I am yet to test. Under consumer law this warranty could be extended depending on how long such am appliance should really last. I would immediately contact DUX by phone and or email with a Mobile photo if possible and get them to replace the seal under warranty it should not be leaking. If the seal cannot be simply replaced then DUX should replace the system.

Dux
Dux C.Dux

Hi Janelle,

Thanks for your question.

Please contact our After Sales & Service on 1300 365 115 Option 2 with the serial no. of the unit and to arange a service call.

A leak at the base could possibly indicate an issue, one of our Service Agents would need to attend to inspect.

The 50W136 has a 7-year tank leakage warranty.

Thanks,

The Dux Team

I'm trying to set a timer on my 50w1 to utilise my solar panels . It is currently set from 4am to 9am and 4pm to 9pm and there is plenty of hot water. But from 4am to 6am there is no sun and 7pm to 9pm there is no sun so these 4hours are on grid 3.6 kwh x 28 cents per day. I'm thinking of changing it to 5am to 9am dropping 1 on grid hour and 2pm to 9pm gaining 2 solar hours. How long should the water stay hot if not used?

Hi Martin,

50L heaters by their design (same for all manufacturers) are not as energy efficient as larger heaters such as 250L and above. A lot of external factors will come into how long the water stays hot in the heater, from the ambient climate to pipe insulation, etc, etc.

We cannot advise on the blend of PV input vs on-grid supply.

From cold to hot, the unit draws 15A/hr and reheats in approximately 50 minutes.

A solar PV electrical engineer might be able to advise further.

You'd better get the plumber back who installed it. Either there is no power to the unit, the timer is faulty or the new heater is dead.

I am going overseas for 3 months on a business trip. I was wondering what is the best way for me to turn off the outdoor dux water tank? Do I turn off the circuit on the switch outside first and than release the water? Would that cause any problems when I come back?

turn off the hot water power at the switch board and I'd turn off the water at the mains. No need to drain the tank.

hi I have a dux proflo hot water cylinder( unsure of what model). im having problems with water pressure which sometimes only trickles when using washing machine or having other taps on at the same time and the hot water takes along time to run hot. I must add that I have a two and a half storey house and the upstairs bathroom shower is affected a lot. I have been reading a lot of the comments and just wondering whether it may need a new thermostat or element. I do on regular basis check the release valve which is working perfectly.i have had the HWS for nearly 15 years and apart from the lack of hot water and lack of water pressure it is working great. can you advise my options. thanks

3 answers
Lordknaps
Lordknaps

Well it's not really "working great". You have a hot water heater that doesn't provide any or enough hot water. It won't be the thermostat or heating element, they don't effect water pressure. It's 15 years old, sounds like you need a new one.

Rick S
Rick S

Hi Arty, you appear to have had good life out of your HWS. I'm not a plumber, however if the unit is not leaking, and you are only getting a trickle of water, I would be getting in touch with a plumber. It sounds like a replacement HWS and a plumber to solve the pressure problems, particularly at the second floor. Good luck!

thanks for your comments and have taken it on board.have contacted a hws company and i will be getting in touch
