InsureandGo Australia

are airfares included as part of insurance

1 answer

Anna J.InsureandGo Australia

Hi John,

Good question. The best place to get the correct information about every aspect of our policy is the PDS. You can see our PDS documents here: https://www.insureandgo.com.au/policy-wordings.jsp

There are multiple sections of cover that apply to airfares. For example, you would be reimbursed for airfares if you need to cancel your trip before departing (due to illness, injury, or other circumstances, see PDS), unless the airline is the one responsible for the cancellation. This is just one example, so I would definitely recommend you read the PDS relevant to your travels.

I hope this helps.

Hi, I have keyed in dates for a quote to Vietnam for 3 weeks of travel and have also keyed in dates for 2 weeks of travel. Why is it $20 cheaper to be insured for 3 weeks than it is for 2 weeks? For example, $159.66 for 3 weeks and $175.13 for 2 weeks. This is for Gold level and I have not yet calculated medical or any other extras. I have tried keying in various dates of the year and over lapping dates as well and it always works out cheaper for gold cover for one extra week of travel. This makes no sense. I have called Insure and go and they have no answers.

Hi there, thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, I don't know why there would be a price difference in this case. The only situation I know of that would cause this is if, when getting a quote for 3 weeks, you had a discount coupon applied, but when getting a quote for 2 weeks, the discount code wasn't applied. I hope this helps. Thanks, Anna

Hi, In Vietnam you do not need a licence to drive an electric bike or electric scooter under 50cc. So does that mean that Insure and Go provide insurance coverage as long as we are wearing helmets?

Thanks

Anna J.InsureandGo Australia

Hi there, good question.

If the country you are travelling to doesn't require a license in order to ride a bike/scooter that's under 50cc, then you are correct - you would be covered for riding a bike/scooter up to 50cc only without needing a driving license. I would advise that you double check, to ensure that this is definitely the situation in Vietnam, for your peace of mind.

You're also right about the necessity of a helmet - to be covered, you must wear a helmet regardless of local laws and irrespective of whether you're driving, or you're the passenger.

I hope this helped. Thanks, Anna

Hi Vik, good question, thanks for getting in touch.

The cover provided by your Winter Sports add-on can be found in the below PDS:
https://www.insureandgo.com.au/images/ig-ms-pw-ot_tcm1005-157834.pdf

Specifically, you will find winter sports information on Section O (Page 37-40) and Page 46.

Generally speaking, the above pages detail the following sections of the add-on cover: winter sports equipment, winter sports equipment hire, lift pass, ski pack, piste closure, avalanche cover.

Medically, the add-on provides unlimited overseas medical expenses for a range of skiing and snowboarding activities, including normal recreational skiing and snowboarding, cross-country skiing, glacier skiing, recreational ice hockey, ice skating, snowmobiling, and tobogganing. So if you are injured doing any of the above, you are covered.

I hope this helps.

Please tell me how much for a 76 year old lady with no medical issues costs for a multi yearly policy including cruise insurance. Thank you

1 answer

Anna J.InsureandGo Australia

Hi Diana, thanks for getting in touch.

Firstly, I would advise you to take our a cruise policy if you will be travelling on a commercial cruise, and want cruise specific benefits such as missed port cover, cabin confinement, reimbursements for shore excursions that are cancelled/interrupted by the cruise liner, and others. You can still opt for an annual multi trip policy, but this policy type doesn't include these cruise specific benefits.

Regarding getting a quote, unfortunately, there are too many other variables for me to be able to give you a price, and I'm not qualified to give you an accurate quote. However, you can quickly and easily get a quote online by going to https://www.insureandgo.com.au/ Alternatively, you can call our Sydney team on 1300 401 177 for a quote.

I hope this helps. Thanks, Anna

Anna J.InsureandGo Australia

Hi Maureen, we consider all pre-existing medical conditions, but there are some conditions which we will not be able to provide cover for. You can quickly and easily find out if your conditions are covered by getting a quote online or over the phone. If you go to www.insureandgo.com.au you have an opportunity near the end of the journey to declare your medical conditions using a simple search, and you will instantly see if we can provide coverage. Alternatively, you can call our Sydney call centre on 1300 401 177, and our staff would be happy to help. Thanks, Anna

Hi Mary-Anne, thanks for reaching out.

We offer a cruise specific policy that has coverage more specific to cruise needs (missed port, cabin confinement and more). You can learn more at: https://www.insureandgo.com.au/travel-insurance/cruise-travel-insurance.jsp

Our annual multi trip policy, however, doesn't provide cover for commercial cruises. We define a commercial cruise as: any travel on sea, ocean or river by any commercially operated ship, boat or other sea vessel with scheduled journey time longer than 2 hours.

I hope this helps.

Hi Gail, thanks for reaching out.

I can confirm that proof of purchase, in the form of a receipt, should be provided as part of any claim to establish ownership of the items your claiming for. In some extenuating circumstances, our claims team may consider proof of purchase in the form of credit/debit card statements to show purchases, but this cannot be guaranteed.

Hi Wendy yes we had to make a claim whilst in Japan. My wife a double lung transplantee was diagnosed with bronchitis and pneumonia .We had 10 days in a Japanese hospital Insure and Go were great . Make sure you tell them everything about your sisters condition when you enquire. They seem to be very cooperative dealing with pre existing conditions .They settled the hospital accounts directly with the hospitals, there were two,and reimbursed our out of pocket expenses including additional air fares, taxi, additional accommodation and food .They even appointed a local agent to assist in translation and negotiation .I hope you don’t need it but don’t travel with out it and Insure and Go are one I would recommend Alan

Hi what type of motorbikes do you cover and what is the excess?

3 answers
InsureandGo Australia
Anna J.InsureandGo Australia

Hi Peter, good question. I hope the below helps.

We cover all motorcycles, but if you're planning to ride a motorcycle as part of your travel, the excess you pay in the event of a claim changes depending on the engine displacement/capacity (the cc). If you are riding a motorbike that is under 125cc, you will pay an excess of $250, and if the motorcycle is over 125cc, you will pay an excess of $500.

Please also note that in order to be covered, you must wear a crash helmet, irrespective of the law in the country you are in, and whether you are the rider or the passenger. And if you are the rider, you must hold a driving licence appropriate for the country you are in. Further, if you are riding a motorcycle rated 125cc or higher, you must hold a current and valid license required for riding an equivalent rated motorcycle in Australia.

I think your Travel Insurance policy is misleading and untruthful.
I have filled in the medical screening, answered all the questions and was prepared to pay the extra premium thinking I am now covered for my trip. Now, reading the fine print it says "You, or any insured person on your policy, has in the last 5 years suffered from or received medical advice, treatment or medication for:
- any heart related, blood circulatory or diabetic condition; or - any..........NOT COVERED
I had a heart related issue in may 2016 and no trouble at all since then.
Having filled out all the details, paying the extra for a declared condition it seems you were not going to cover it at all. Why did it not say this in the screening test.? Why then would I need to declare and pay extra for a policy you would back out of ?

3 answers
InsureandGo Australia
Anna J.InsureandGo Australia

Hi Victor, I apologise for the confusion, but I can confirm that you are in fact covered for any condition that has been declared and accepted, regardless of the exclusion your mentioned. This caveat can be seen in the point directly above the passage you quoted: "This is unless you have told InsureandGo Travel Insurance about your condition and we have accepted it."

Therefore, in your situation, as long as you declared your heart related issue from 2016, and it was accepted by the system, (which it sounds like it was, as you didn't receive a warning message when trying to declare it, and your premium increased to cover it) the exclusion you quoted does not apply. You would be covered for this particular condition.

The exclusion you quoted applies only to people who don't declare their medical conditions or those that have medical conditions that cannot be covered. So it does not apply to you, since you declared your condition and it was accepted, so you're covered.

I hope this helps. Thanks, Anna.

are you covered for airline strikes such as jetstar on this weekend

1 answer
InsureandGo Australia
Anna J.InsureandGo Australia

Hi Ken, good question. The answer depends on when you booked your trip.

Unfortunately, we don't provide cover for strikes or industrial action of any type, except for those which were not a known event (i.e. they weren't public knowledge) when you booked your trip. As far as we are concerned, the Jetstar strikes became a known event on 8:00pm on 6th December - see our travel alert on the subject by going here: https://www.insureandgo.com.au/travel-alerts/jetstar-strike.jsp . So if you booked your trip after this time, you will not be covered for the Jetstar strikes.

I hope this helps.

Regarding cover for a reconsider your need to travel destination: we would still cover you for travel to Bolivia under the current status reconsider your need to travel, but please monitor the situation closely. Only if the warning escalates to do not travel then you will be covered to cancel your trip. However you will not be covered if you still decide to travel after the status changes.

Hi
I am looking to insure for a trip in Sept/Oct 2020. I am selecting Gold cover, but on the list of benefits, the option for rental car excess waiver has an x (yet the silver cover includes it).
Is this correct? All reviews up until very recently said it did cover rental car excess.

Hi Penny, thank you for getting in touch and raising this.

We recently made a change to the website, which went live yesterday, and what you are seeing there is an error. I can confirm that if you're travelling internationally, our rental car excess waiver cover on Gold policy is $8,000. If you're travelling domestically, our Gold policy offers $7,500 coverage for the vehicle rental excess. I hope this clarifies things, and we will endeavor to get the website fixed up as soon as possible.

International Travel Insurance - Gold Cruise

I have read there are various discounts offered when taking out a policy. The cover is for my 86 year old mum. I have also read in the reviews that on occasion claiming for cancelling of a trip is not covered, can you advise why this would be?

1 answer
InsureandGo Australia
Anna J.InsureandGo Australia

Hi DonnyDo, thanks for reaching out.

Yes, we do sometimes run campaigns where we will provide a discount, although the offer will vary, and discount campaigns run at different times and across different channels.

Regarding cancellation cover: it is available on Silver and Gold policies only, so purchasing a Bare Essentials would mean you are not covered for cancellation. Furthermore, as with any insurance product, there are also conditions that apply to the cover. For example, you will not be covered for cancellation due to: changing your mind, if you could not travel due to failure to obtain a passport or visa, or if you failed to check in according to your itinerary. This list is by no means exhaustive - there are other conditions and exclusions you should definitely be aware of. I strongly advise you to familiarise yourself with any and all situations where cancellation cover does not apply: please see Section A (page 19-20) of the PDS, which you can review here: https://www.insureandgo.com.au/images/ig-ms-pw-ot_tcm1005-157834.pdf. You are able to buy your policy now and I recommend that you purchase your policy soon, so that you can take advantage of trip cancellation coverage. I hope this helps.

When you take out travel insurance with your company it covers car rental but does it cover the extras if the car is damaged or stolen
Do you have extra cover if this is the case?

1 answer
InsureandGo Australia
Anna J.InsureandGo Australia

Hi Nea, great question.

If you are renting a car, the cover we provide is an excess waiver. This means that if you have purchased a policy that provides this cover, and you have an accident in your hire car, the hire car company will charge you an excess.

They may charge you an excess if the car is damaged, and I cannot comment on what they would charge if it is stolen.

The cover provided as part of our policies is to pay towards this excess payment. On Silver and Gold policies, this means that if your car rental company charges you an excess, we will pay up to $4,000 of that excess.

I hope this helps. Thanks, Anna
