Travel is a service, but there's very little of it from PHT
The agent at the travel company I had used since 2012 retired, so I rang PHT, told them the price I had for a particular Mediterranean cruise, asked if they could beat it, and if so, I'd book right then on the phone. Naturally they beat it (offered a free home pick-up) and then they arranged the international flights. Not hard.
While we were on-board the ship, we booked a further cruise for late 2022, and the ship's travel consultant asked if we wanted to put the booking through PHT. We said "no" because we did not feel that PHT had done anythi...Read more
ng to deserve a "free-bee" just like that. When we returned home, we received an email after 2 or 3 weeks saying "Welcome home - hope everything went smoothly. When you have a moment I'd love to hear from you". I would have expected a call from them, not an email, but was not surprised because when we travelled with PHT in 2010 I never heard anything at all from them. Just got on their mailing list. So I called the agent, told them what we had done, and she seemed most put out that we had not put the booking back through PHT. I asked what she could give us in return, and the answer was basically "nothing". Some months went by, and earlier this month I booked a new trip (a river cruise) for 2020 through another travel agent. After that was all done, I mentioned the cruise I have coming up, and that I had booked it on-board, and asked if there was anything she could do to improve the price (on-board credits, free gratuities, pick-up from home etc). Took but a couple of days to get back to me with a $700 discount!! Naturally I was delighted and put the booking through that agency (the cruise Company allow that). So, while PHT had the opportunity, their consultant was too lazy to even try to improve my price. Surely they must be taught that all customers need to feel like they've got a special deal, or a special something even if they're paying full price. It's not necessarily about how much, but it's being made to feel special, and this is where PHT have let me down, twice. The new agent seemed to go that extra mile for us, and we appreciated it. We travel every year, so PHT are missing out on a lot of future business. There's no need to spend so much money advertising if the staff do the right thing, and maybe PHT need to look at better training or better commission structures to encourage staff to use the enormous customer database they already have to their advantage. Surely it's better to keep your existing customers than continually advertise for new ones. Just sending out quarterly newsletters doesn't earn any points with me.

excellent service
Erin nash .went out of her way, to make our holiday the best, my wife is disabled, erin arranged wheelchair transport in hongkong, Singapore and suitable accommodation on the cruise. my wife passed away suddenly and needed to go to hospital in Adelaide, did not finish cruise, erin still assisting with insurance claim for air fares.

Multiple booking attempts always unhelpful
My husband and I have attempted to get quotes for overseas travel on several occasions, firstly we attempted to book a Europe trip, upon walking in the store staff did not even want to speak to a young couple, we waited and waited after not being acknowledged we walked out and booked with Flight Centre. Our second attempt was for our honeymoon, we walked in with our young son, we had a young staff member greet us where we spoke about a Maldives trip, we attempted to get a quote however this staff member needed assistance, the senior staff looke...Read more

The third and final attempt was over the phone, where a senior staff member rang to discuss a Maldives trip, I requested she email me a quote for our particular dates, 2 weeks later and I have never received it. So instead I booked our Maldives honeymoon through MyHolidayCentre. I will NEVER EVER book with Phil Hoffman. If you a young couple and after a holiday of $10k plus they assume you can't afford it and don't even give you the time of day. Our money is good elsewhere thanks Phil Hoffman!

A trip to remember
We have recently returned from a trip to Europe including an APT River Cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam. We could not have been more impressed with the service provided by Belinda at Phil Hoffmann Travel of Glenelg. She helped us choose the River Cruise with many helpful suggestions, booking of the cruise and extra accommodation as well. Nothing was too much trouble for her even when we had to change time and place of leaving Europe, she handled the changes seamlessly. We felt very pampered with airport transfers, extra copies of itinerary for family and friends and luxurious hotel accommodation right where we needed to be. Thank you Belinda

Europe Holiday
We booked our flights, accomodation in Singapore and a Celebrity Cruise leaving from Venice with PHT and all our bookings were well executed and there was no problems experienced during our vacation with any of these bookings .

European Dream
My husband and I booked a long awaited 10 week holiday to Europe with Cheryl at Phil Hoffman Travel and I must say I was very impressed. We started in Greece then made our way through Italy, Croatia, Hungary to Budapest river cruise and finally to Paris. Cheryl arranged all transfers and hotels and all went according to plan. Well Organised Holiday
We booked our holiday through Mark Nicolson of Phil Hoffman Travel Gawler.
I was bit of a painful customer and changed the itinerary a few times which Mark was able to accommodate with a smile.
Our trip was to Vietnam and Singapore.
We wanted a hassle free holiday with everything pre-organised before we left. Mark nailed it.
Our trip went off without a hitch.
Every little detail right through to our flights was perfect.
Especially little things like our transfers to and from the airport. I felt like a king, with silver service, all the way, which was a real surprise.

Thank you sincerely to Mark and his team in Gawler. My parents recently travelled to Europe for the first time and managed to become quite disorientated (lost!!). A very long story but the most important part of the story other than my parents having an amazing holiday was the level of care provided by Mark and his team, backed up by the after hours consultant. Mark liaised with the tour guide to ensure my parents needs were met so that they could feel comfortable and enjoy their trip. This attention gave me great peace of mind and well exceeded my expectations.
I would certainly recommend Mark his team for taking care of your family members.

Excellent Service, Highly Recommend!
My partner and I booked a 3 week holiday through Europe through the Phil Hoffman store in Glenelg.
We felt very well looked after and having a travel agent take care of the holiday left us free to enjoy our holiday and not worry about organising things on the run.

Excellent service at Glenelg PHT
We booked a 3.5 week holiday to Europe with Belinda and couldn't be happier with the service. She was more than happy to answer any questions we had and made the whole experience very stress free. Even when we contacted PHT while Belinda was away, we were well looked after by other staff members. On the trip, our flights, train bookings and accommodation were all perfect.
We definitely wouldn't hesitate to use PHT in the future!

Myself and two others wanted to go on a cruise so about a month ago we went to the phil Hoffman cruise expo. We found a cruise we liked and paid our $300 deposit. Two days later we paid a further $500 deposit to complete the booking. The next day we were told our booking was cancelled as our newborn would be too young to go. We were informed soon after that we will receive our $500 but the $300 paid at the expo will need to be kept and used as credit as stated in the t&c. Airlines provide suggested connections which comply with minimum connection times between connecting flights. The minimum connection times are stipulated by the airlines factoring in airport situations ie. domestic and international terminals under one roof or in separate buildings, security, numbers of flights/passengers. The connection time provided for your flight connection was as per airline minimum connection times. Unfortunately, during the connection time you encountered a situation where a gate change was made at the last moment requiring you to exit one secure area and enter another. Regrettably this put pressure on you and to make matters worse you were on the receiving end of abuse from other travelers. While you did make your flight connection, in the event that you hadn't as it was a valid connection it becomes the airline’s responsibility to re-accommodate passengers. We are also able to assist in such instances, either by communication direct with our office or through our after hours service if outside normal office hours. I do understand that your concern was largely regarding the Phil Hoffmann Travel consultant not having specifically pointed out the connection time and providing you the option of overnight in Melbourne. It is our experience that minimum connection times do provide enough time to transfer and that clients elect for convenience. However, as I assured you on our call I will raise your concern with our teams and suggest that a conversation be had with clients when necessary. Such a conversation will provide reassurance around minimum connection times and airlines making good in the event the flights are delayed, but also give the clients an opportunity to make alternative arrangements at their own expense if preferred. I’m sorry that your experience put you under duress and that you bore the brunt of the frustration of others. Thank you again for your feedback. Would not travel again with PHT
Booked a 3 week trip to Europe for $15,000 through PHT at Modbury. Mostly we were well advised by PHT but there was one hotel [Mecure City Centre Budapest] that was flabbergastingly dirty and uncomfortable for which we paid $204/night for 3 nights. The photos shown to us by PHT from the hotel's web site bore no resemblance to reality. Felt let down that PHT would send us to such a place and take little responsibility on our return. We did get a 30% refund from the hotel, but feel more could have been done by PHT. From this experience feel it is no riskier to buy accommodation direct from the internet rather than going through a travel agent.

Credit Card Charges
My first dealing with PHT. I went to pay the balance of our NZ cruise with my credit card and was slapped with a 2% credit card surcharge (way too high!). This added a reasonably significant sum to the cost of the holiday. While the small print did mention this charge, the actual dollar total due on the invoice did not make this clear. Unfortunately it was too late to pay via eft as the money was already in the card account ready to pay. A trap for the uninitiated! Unfortunately it's left a sour taste!

It went from bad to worse
We booked a Holland America Mediterranean Cruise through the Glenelg office. We had 6 agents & each one left the company. Continuity was non-existent. Every time you ring them your agent is away & you wait weeks & get no response. We weren't offered the flights included option, then they missed the early bird fares. Finally we told them about Qatar which they booked. When we realised our return flight had been cancelled, we had to tell PHT that we no longer had a return flight. They fixed that & then we had to ask them to organise accommodation...Read more
when we ended up with a 12 hour stop-over. We wanted to book a table for 10 for a set dining time onboard & they told us this option was unavailable. Then when we were very unhappy about the service we were getting, a senior staff member said she would try to sort it out. In the meantime, one of our group emailed Holland America & gave them our request for the dinner booking. She heard back from them within 24 hours to confirm our dinner booking for 10 people each night in the dining room. When next we met with the senior PHT staff member, she said she had still be unable to sort out our dinner booking. We basically told her - don't bother, we have done it ourselves. Our problems continued onboard when half of our group didn't receive their invites to the lunch & dinner PHT gave us for booking with them over 1 year ahead. Luckily the cruise was hosted by PHT & our host sorted the problem. I emailed 2 senior staff about the problem & then emailed them again when the problem was resolved. Neither of them returned my emails. I filled in the Client Feedback Card telling them how disappointed we were & I received a letter basically saying sorry but if you do change your mind & use us again let me know so that I can refer you to a suitable Travel Agent!!!! Amazing and locally owned!
I am 26 and absolutely love PHT! The staff are always lovely and friendly and know so much about each destination. And if one staff member does not know, someone else definitely will. I book all my travel with them now, after having so much trouble with Flight Centre and Student Flights in the past.
Also helps that they are local to SA, and not some money hungry nation wide business!

What customer service
Went ones and got a scrippled note of a quote by a Staff member Paula at T.T.P. Wrote an e mail asking for another quote of a slightly different journey in print. Never got an answer. Would not recommend. Best book research and book your own. At least you know you get some results rather than a non service.

In ordinary times refunds can take 6 to 8 weeks to be processed by suppliers. Unfortunately we are experiencing extraordinary times, consequently we anticipate that refunds may now take 12 or more weeks to be processed.

I am pleased that despite not having made contact after your 2010 holiday we did make contact after your more recent holiday, albeit by email. Our preferred “Welcome Home” is indeed by phone, and our consultant training recommends this. Regarding the future cruise booking you made, I expect that the consultant you contacted would have checked with the cruise company and ascertained that no specials bettering the price you had were available at that time, therefore we were not able to pass on a price benefit. I acknowledge that at this point it would have been ideal and excellent customer service had the consultant offered to keep an eye on the cruise should there be a more attractive offer released later. Presumably after a lapse of several months your current agent, when contacting the cruise company, found that a special offer had subsequently been released and was able to offer the price benefit to you. We are fortunate to have a large number of repeat and referral clients, and in respect to them we aim for consistency and fairness of delivery, hence ad-hoc discounts or individual deals are not our policy. Rather, we work closely with our suppliers to negotiate special rates and or inclusions which can be offered to all. We do acknowledge that our clients are to be treasured, and we’re sorry that we haven’t achieved this for you.
