I’ve just unboxed my Salin Plus and plunged it in to use for the first night. It has a smell, I’m not sure if it’s a plastic smell being new but it’s definitely putting an odor into the air. I’ve read here that salt is not meant to smell. Is this just an initial new smell or is there something wrong with my device?

I would suggest this may just be an initial smell.
We have previously had a few customers advise that there is a 'smell' present when initially using their device. A couple have been returned to us and, when tested, we were unable to detect any 'smell' coming from the device.

Posting for those of you that may have a similar experience to me. I phoned first thing the following morning (prior to seeing the prompt reply here) and spoke with a lovely lady at Salin Plus who was very helpful. I left the machine running in a back bedroom for 4 or 5 hours through the day and the smell seemed to be mostly gone and I was able to use it that night. We purchased the machine for our dog who has chronic lung disease. In just the few days we have now been using the machine I've really noticed a difference in her and am already able to start dropping her standard medications. Our dog sleeps on our bed so my husband and I have been sleeping in the room with the machine as well. Is there a smell? When you first turn it on you notice what I think is a salty smell (something like the smell of rock salt when you open a new packet to fill a grinder) but within a few mins you don't notice it any more. The only thing I've noticed is that it seems to dry the air a lot and I need my glass of water alongside the bed but this is only a minor point given the massive difference the machine has made for our dog. I've also read other reviews where people have notice this in the first few days of using the machine but with continued use this is no longer a problem for them so maybe that will be the same for us too. I'm so grateful for this machine and highly recommend it.

Does the machine make your room damp?

Hi Kim, no it doesn’t, however, if your room is damp, the salt filter will absorb the moisture and eventually leak, much like a sponge. For this reason, we don’t recommend using the device in damp rooms.

I have had my SP for quite a while and have replaced the filter once and, periodically, take it apart and clean the fan blades. Lately I am noticing that there is no air coming from the unit. I was thinking you could feel the air coming from the fan but now I am not sure if I did, since I have had it so long. I just don't want it to short out if there is supposed to be an small output of air. I only run the unit at night and unplug from the unit when I get out of bed. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello Kay
Air output is relatively minimal and can barely be felt when you place your hand at the front of the device. The fan disperses sufficient air to disperse the micro salt particles in to the room.
If the fan is operating, your device is working correctly.

Can I use a small fan the same time my salin plus is on during the night?

Yes.
Best to have the fan on a lower speed - rather than high speed.
Also, ensure the fan is positioned in the room so as not to blow the salt away from you.

Will the salin plus be effective if I use my cpap machine?

Barry C.Salin Plus

Dependent on the filter in your cpap machine, there is a possibility it could 'filter out' the micro salt particles dispersed by the Salin Plus device.
You can use the Salin Plus device during the day when the cpap device is not required. Place on your desk, next to your favourite reading/tv chair...ensure the device is facing you and within 1mtr.

I also wondered about using this when having to use my CPAP machine but instead leave it going for hours in the lounge room etc wherever I spend most of my daytime hours this helps so much with the allergies as used to be sneezing, running nose and wheezing but the relief from these symptoms has been amazing.

In the first instance, please advise your location so I can advise you accordingly if your device requires repair.
Check that the fan is turned to high speed - on lowest speed the fan may not rotate, thus appearing to not be operating.
