Whilst the sea air does contain some salt, it would differ from the salt used in our devices and may be less concentrated.

Hi my daughter has cf and we just got one off does can you let me know some off the benefits this machine has for kids with cystic fibrosis? tanks john
2 answers
Hi John, I think it is best to ask your doctor first to get clearance to use this. Or you may ask the company from where you got your machine as they would have a wide extent of information on use for certain people with certain illnesses. My children do not have CF so I don't think I can give you an accurate answer. But I use this machine to help me manage their colds and cough which has been very beneficial for them. Best you see your doctor. All the best with your baby!
Barry C.Salin Plus
The Salt Therapy provided by the device will assist in loosening the mucous in your daughters lungs, generally making it easier to clear.
Some customers also report less chest infections with the use of the Salin Plus Salt Therapy device in conjunction with their treatment plan for CF.

There was water under my slain plus this evening is this possible? Have it since 1st January.

This issue will arise when the device is used in high humidity.
Information below from our website
CAN I USE SALIN PLUS IN HUMID ENVIRONMENTS
You can use Salin Plus in humid environments so long as your room is well insulated from the moisture outside. Avoid leaving your windows open when the humidity levels are high. Use a hygrometer to measure the relative Humidity level, try to keep it around 50 to 60%.
We do not recommend using Salin Plus in a damp room, as the salt filter absorbs the moisture in the air. You would be amazed how much moisture is in the air when the room is damp. If the filter absorbs this moisture, it acts like a sponge and ultimately can leak the water it has absorbed. The filter is much more effective when it is dry.
Having sold over 30,000 devices all across Australia in our first 4 years, we have seen this filter issue in around 1% of cases, typically in parts of Queensland where it can get very humid at certain times of the year. It comes down to the level of moisture in your home, which will vary depending on the structure of the home, and type of ventilation and air conditioning used.
If your home uses an evaporative air conditioner which emits moisture into the air that can cause moisture issues for the Salin Plus filter, whereas other types of air conditioners help to dry out the room and therefore help reduce the risk of any moisture issues.
The best way to protect your filter, is to remove the moisture from the air, and the best way to do this is with a dehumidifier. There are many different brands on the market to choose from. They are popular as they help reduce dust mite activity and mold spores which also effect respiratory conditions and no one likes a damp home.
I suggest you contact the manufacturer in Perth or Sydney. These items have a 12 month guarantee

Does it help with night time nose bleeds?
1 answer
Barry C.Salin Plus
Hello Ann
Do you know what is causing the nose bleeds? Dryness, allergies, infection....etc?
Unless the bleeds are occurring due to allergies or sinus issues, then I would suggest the device may not assist with the nose bleeds.
If they are a side effect of allergies or sinus issues, I would suggest that trying the device may be a good idea.
You will note on our website that we offer a 60 Day Money Back Guarantee.

I so far I love the machine. Why is there not an in off switch? What is the recommended way to turn it off? Is it supposed to run all day in a room even if I am not in it? Is it 4 months of 24x7 use or 4 months if you just use it at night?
1 answer
Barry C.Salin Plus
Happy to hear you are loving the device.
An on/off switch has never been part of the design for the device. You can remove the plug from the rear of the device or turn off at the wall. Some customers advise they have the device connected to a timer - no more forgetting to to turn on or off.
4-6 months filter life is based on 8 hours use per day.

Can you replace the salt in the filter with Pink Himalayan Sea Salt?
3 answers
Actually I had a similar thought myself but could not get the plastic mesh cocntainer opened
Barry C.Salin Plus
No, you cannot replace the salt in the filter.
Replacement filters would need to be purchased.
I wish they would use the Pink Himalayan Sea Salt in the filters, or give us a choice.
Robertasked
I have been using the Salin + for about 3 weeks and thought it was excellent until last night when it has started getting moisture out of the more humid air and running water every where. What can I do to rectify this?
2 answers
Barry C.Salin Plus
Instructions included with the device advise the risk of use in high humidity. As you have experienced, the excess moisture in the air will collect in the filter and then disperse. You can remove the filter from the device and put in the sun to dry out. Use a soft dry cloth to wipe out the interior of the device.
A dehumidifier can be used in conjunction with the device to maintain a normal humidity.
The device should not be operated with humidifiers or evaporative ac's.
Hi Robert
I have never heard of this happening before so I can't help you. My best advice would be to ask the experts at Salin Plus. Hope they can figure it out for you. Sorry I didn't see your message earlier but I have not been on. Good luck with your problem. Jess.

Would Salin Plus be helpful for someone with lung cancer and fluid on the lungs?

Hi Danni, I honestly don't know, sorry. But it was a respiratory specialist who suggested I get the Salin Air Purifier for my asthma. If you scroll down the page there are several responses from Salin Plus Official that may help answer your question. Best wishes, Katrina.
Barry C.Salin Plus
There is a possibility that the device may assist in these circumstances. Should you go ahead with a purchase, please note the 60 Day Money Back Guarantee when purchasing from salinplus.com. We would be interested to hear from you if you do go ahead and make a purchase.
Yes I really think this would be a great help to you. I have emphysema and I run my machine every night. If this is bad I just turn up the volume so to speak. I truly think you will find some relief from using the saline plus. Good luck and very best wishes. Jess.

The device disperses less than 0.1g of salt in 24 hr period. This is a safe level for those with high BP, on low salt diets etc. You will be fine to use overnight prior to an anaesthetic.
Robina Sasked
Does it have any side effects because of the salt?
1 answer
Barry C.Salin Plus
The device does not disperse sufficient salt (less than 0.1g in a 24 hour period) to cause issues with blood pressure or for those on a low salt diet - I assume this is what you were referring to?

Fifiasked
Hi, I read somewhere that the salt particles can deposit in the lungs and can cause serious lung problem ...please confirm if you heard of any severe side effect as I want to use it for my 5 year old daughter?
2 answers
Barry C.Salin Plus
Hello Fifi
I am unsure where you read such information and if it was actually in relation to salt?
After 6+ years on the market in Australia and more than 15 years on the EU market, there has never been any report of the device causing 'serious lung problems'.
The Salin Plus device disperses micro salt particles which are consequently inhaled. The salt assists in loosening mucous so it can be excreted - you can read more about this on our website.
Whilst I understand your concern if you have read such information, I can assure you that the device is safe to use for all the family, including children and infants. The salt filter contains all natural ingredients "Your filter cartridge contains 100% natural purified rock salt, rich in vital minerals, allowing you to carry out your ‘salt room therapy’ at home. The ingredients include over 98% sodium chloride, with the trace elements calcium chloride, magnesium and iodine."
At the risk of sounding condescending, If inhaling salt (in micro particle form) could cause such issues, those residing by the ocean would be at great risk.
Thanks for your reply ...please see below ;
Hi
Interesting read from Australia lung foundation.
Salt Therapy
There has been a boom in recent years in the availability of ‘salt therapy’ (halotherapy/speleopathy), an alternative therapy method which claims to benefit respiratory health.
What is it?
‘Salt Therapy’ refers to a range of techniques where salt particles are inhaled with the aim of improving symptoms of lung disease. This might be through relaxing in salt-caves, or artificial salt rooms, which are coated in salt and which have salt particles pumped into the air for visitors to inhale. Other methods use salt pipes, inhalers or other devices. Salt Therapy is said to benefit a range of conditions, from cystic fibrosis to asthma, eczema and even bronchiectasis and COPD.
What’s the Evidence?
There is some historical and anecdotal (word-of-mouth) evidence to support the idea of salt caves being of benefit to people’s respiratory health.i However, there is no scientific evidence that salt therapy will have this impact. In addition, those who promote salt therapy do not always agree on the type or amount of salt to be used, the method, or the benefits. Their claims are not based on any reliable scientific research or current medical guidelines.ii
Caution
Chairman of Lung Foundation Australia, Associate Professor David Serisier has said, “there are concerns about the possibility of the warm, moist environment in these salt rooms providing opportunity for the growth of various other bacteria of concern. In addition, salt can irritate the airways.”iii
Lung Foundation Australia is not alone in warning caution about salt therapy. Asthma Australia has also refused to recommend the therapy, explaining that it can trigger a tightening of the airways. Respiratory specialists sometimes use inhalation of concentrated saline (salt) solutions as part of a lung function test, to trigger asthma attacks in patients suspected of having asthma. Without this professional supervision, exposure to salt-enriched air could be potentially dangerous for those with a respiratory condition.iv
Alternative Therapies
Associate Professor David Serisier has advised that the idea of inhaling salty water (hypertonic saline) is, however, a valid therapy suitable for some. There is good evidence that it can reduce exacerbations for patients with cystic fibrosisv, and on this basis some experts believe that it might be a useful therapy and will prescribe it for some patients with non-CF bronchiectasis.vi
Lung Foundation Australia recommends people with a lung condition exercise great caution in the use of salt therapies. We advise you to discuss salt therapy with your General Practitioner or Respiratory Specialist.

I itch when this machine on can anyone suggest why this happens??
1 answer
Barry C.Salin Plus
I have not heard of any other cases like this from using the device.
Are you certain it is the device - stop using for 2-3 nights to determine if it is definitely the device.

Does it help in a brick room with no windows that sometimes mould appears on the bricks. Would it assist with any air bourne particals that may be present?
1 answer
Barry C.Salin Plus
Yes and no. It is fine to operate the device in a brick room with no windows etc, you will still receive the benefits of the Salt Therapy.
I would suggest that the room you describe may have some damp issues, thus suggesting a high moisture level/humidity.
The device should not be operated in high humidity.

Why are the filters so expensive? $55 plus shipping per filter that needs to be replaced 3 times a year. That’s $150-200 p.a - like buying a brand new device every year. Seems very costly
2 answers
Barry C.Salin Plus
Filters purchased at salinplus.com are currently $44.95.
Additional discounts are also available.
Purchasing 3 filters per year equates to less than $15 per month - considerably cheaper that a daily visit to Salt Rooms.
Thanks i just noticed the filters are currently on sale at $44.95 each, down from $55.95 each - so they don't actually retail at $44.95. Ok so at 3 x replacements p.a. as recommended by salon plus, yearly ongoing costs are $135-$160. If you think that's a good deal then that's your prerogative. It seems as that's where the money's been made for salon plus though. I never considered visiting a salt room but thanks for the thought. Pretty sure salt lamps do the same thing at small outlay & no ongoing cost. Have a great one.

I live by the beach, would there be any additional benefit of a machine?

Barry C.Salin Plus
Assuming you are receiving benefit of the salt air living by the beach, the device may not deliver any further benefits.
Are you seeking an alternate therapy for a specific condition or just making a comparison?
I have ordered a unit as my boss has said may help my asthma. Thanks for a prompt and honest reply. I’ll weigh up my options.

I have COPD & use oxygen at night. Would this interfere with the use of the Salin Plus? Can it be used simultaneously?
2 answers
Barry C.Salin Plus
There is a possibility that the filter in your oxygen device could filter out the sub 5 micro particles of salt.
I would suggest that you can use the device during the day - night use is purely a suggestion.
Have the device set up where you spend most of your daytime hours - office, reading, watching television etc.
Ensure the device is close and pointing straight at you.
Thanks so much!

hi. I bought my Salin plus filter in Oct last year. We use it for a dust mite allergy which triggers asthma. I used it till just after Christmas and didn't use it then for a few months. i bought a new filter in Jan/Feb and was fine. I then didnt use it for a few months and when i turned it on it was leaving a very musty smell / stale air in the room. So I purchased a new filter 3 weeks ago and unfortunately it is still leaving a musty smell in the room. I've cleared everything out of the room and re washed everything. I've left the air salin plus machine off the last few days and the smell is gone. Please advise as I've just spent €52 on a new filter and it's still giving out this musty smell. Maria
1 answer
Barry C.Salin Plus
Hello Maria
As you mentioned previously that you live in an area that is humid, this may be causing the issue.
Use in humid conditions can cause the excess moisture in the air to collect in the filter. This moisture in the filter may cause a musty smell when operating, given that the salt could be damp. If sufficient moisture is 'collected' in the filter, the filter can become saturated and disperse this water.
You can eliminate this humidity issue by running a dehumidifier to control the humidity level.
Alternatively, you can contact the supplier for UK/EU as this is where your filter was supplied from.
