Sony Australia 'Refurbished' TV X7000E
Dear All,
I thought that I share my recent experience with Sony Australia's 'Refurbished' TV.
I bought a 'Refurbished' TV from Sony Australia ebay account-> https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SONY-KD55X7000E-55-LED-4K-Ultra-HD-HDR-Smart-TV-Seconds/282668542886?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2748.l2649
I could not believe that they sent me a TV with vertical line on the panel. It was a black-line that is visible (under light background) sitting 3.5 meter away :-(

Sony said that it happened after they checked it, ie damaged during freighting. I don't accept this....would you? The box that enclosed the TV had no damage. I had to clean the dust off the back of the panel, bottom of panel had lots scratched (likely due to scraping along the ground), stick-on plastic covering screen edges were removed, plastic covers protecting the remote-control missing, no shrink wrap plastic over batteries, finger marks on the panel, large plastic cover for the panel were ripped, freighting box & protecting-foam were from another model. Based on the above, it is likely that my 'Refurbished' TV were USED TVs REJECTED by previous owner & RETURNED under warranty (12 months). Given that these rejected & used TV need to last many years, is it worth $200 cheaper than an equivalent NEW Premium TV, eg Samsung. Also, given that 'Refurbished' are likely LAST model (or older), you will need to discount it further when comparing to a current year model TVs. I did confirm with Sony AU via ebay-emails PRIOR to buying their 'Refurbished' TV, it was like asking the sales mens 'should I buy your products' ? Their FAQ are carefully drafted to hide the above. In my case, I should have 'read between the lines'. http://www.ebaystores.com.au/sonyaustralia/faqs. I could have bought an equivalent NEW Samgsung NU7100 55" for $1,100 (with discount voucher), but decided to go with the Sony brand for reliability... what a mistake. I paid $800 (with discount voucher) for the Sony. Comparison-> https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/samsung-nu7100-vs-sony-x720e/596/483#usage*4854!threshold*0.1 Also, for the above model, it was sold 169 times as at 13-Jul-18. Assuming 20% return rate (eg mine), that is 135 rejected TV under warranty. You decide if this is a quality low-end TV made by Sony. My TV was NOT made in Japan....happy to send photo. Buyers BEWARE. In my opinion....shame on you Sony Australia. August 9th 2018 Update: Sony AU Manipulating Their ebay Feedback Results Dear All, Further to my reviews 'Sony Australia 'Refurbished' TV X7000E', the plot thicken. The links below are to provide proof & only needed if you doubt my words. On the 3-Aug, I gave a negative feedback: original words as per RECOVERED by ebay-> http://tinypic.com/usermedia.php?uo=NuVqmzAy%2FKzJBGQC%2BR98L4h4l5k2TGxc#.W2VmTbjhVPY On the 4-Aug, my negative feedback disappeared (282668542886)-> http://tinypic.com/usermedia.php?uo=NuVqmzAy%2FKwM7c7MM12%2Bq4h4l5k2TGxc#.W2Vk4rjhVPY Here is ebay confirmation of the REMOVAL of my negative feedback-> http://tinypic.com/usermedia.php?uo=NuVqmzAy%2FKz9zDy2nD8TmIh4l5k2TGxc#.W2VlB7jhVPY I escalate this issue with a supervisor-> http://tinypic.com/usermedia.php?uo=NuVqmzAy%2FKyaZJ1lPRWZAIh4l5k2TGxc#.W2VlVbjhVPY Here is his quote 'However due to system limitation we are unable to reinstate your feedback.' Hello...Sony AU is able to remove negative feedback & ebay allows it ? Think about it....How many other negative feedback are hidden from buyers ? Not sure why no one else have 'open this can of worm' ? Buyers BEWARE....Sony AU is manipulating their ebay feedback & have taken action intentionally to deceive you. In my opinion...MORE shame on you Sony AU.

Useless software kills off good hardware
If you are planing to buy Sony camera or camcorder, and they advise you’ll be provided with video/image processing software Playmemories for free, look for another manufacturer. Sony hardware is excellent, and that may push you into buying the product, but do not forget you need to extract video from this excellent product and play it somewhere. This is where Sony fails again, again, and once more. Playmemories will not install on Windows 10. They will take your name, your date of birth, they will send you through “I am not a robot” not less than 10 times, they will have your e-mail address confirmed, and when all is done, program DOES NOT WORK. Go to Canon or elsewhere, these jokers are not worth your money.

Awful customer service - lost my repaired phone and refuse to replace
I bought an Xperia XA1 for $450 for the great camera and storage functionality. After 9 months the touchscreen stopped working (which appears to be a common issue when I googled it). Sony agreed to repair the phone under warranty. However, after repair made no contact and returned it whilst I was overseas. I did not receive the phone, but they claimed to have proof of delivery that it was signed for (despite all residents being overseas at the time). This was their response:
We have been looking into this with Roadhound and they have confirmat...Read more
ion that the handset was delivered and signed for at your address. With this being the case there is no further investigation we can offer from our end and can only advise you to pursue this with any other people that may have been at your address at the time. Leaving me to take it up with the repair company and Toll directly, with no resolution in sight and no phone to use.

Sony Australia EBay Store - Poorly Refurbished Camera
Bought a refurbished camera in Dec 2017 because on Sony's website they state: "Manufacturer refurbished: An item that has been professionally restored to working order by a manufacturer or manufacturer-approved seller or retailer. This means the product has been inspected, cleaned, and repaired to meet manufacturer specifications and is in excellent condition". It came with a smudged lens and was not noticed until I took over 100 photos. The camera always had a sticky USB connection until it failed six months later. It has gone into repair and has been away 2 weeks and they are still waiting on parts.

It seems Sony no longer want to support its products and make it has hard as they can to get support
It is like Sony has given up supporting its products. Have had issues with both my Sony PlayStation and Sony 4K TV. Playstation support is based someplace in Europe and I can not understand a word they are saying, when you ask them to repeat themselves because you could not understand they hang-up. I am still waiting to hear back from Sony support

Awful and appalling post-sale service. Simply rubbish.
I bought the Sony Bravia KD-65X9004A in December 2013 which cost me $5,991.70. A few months ago I noticed a few horizontal lines on the LCD screen which gradually developed into annoying wide dark bands. The Panasonic TV which I bought in 2006 is still working fine. Since I have had the expensive Sony for just over 4 years and the LCD screen should last way much more than this, I contacted Sony hoping to have a good solution from a so-called reputable company. Well, someone by the name [name removed] rejected any help whatsoever but also was ri...Read more
diculous enough to ask me to buy another of their TVs! What a joke and a paradox! How can someone have no shame to say: “Hey, I have completely abandoned you as a customer and I do not care at all what happens to our products after we rip you off however, to sort out your problem, you need to buy another product from our company!” This is Sony guys. All they care is to rip us off. I will never, ever buy a Sony product anymore and I will keep telling my awful, and appalling, and shocking personal experience with as many people as possible.Similar opinion? Rubbish customer service
Purchased top of range Sony OLED KD65A1, Sound Bar and Blu Ray player so they would all work synonymously.
Day 1 there were issues with the sound. After 3 contacts with Sony, they wanted me to update the software. Anyways, many more hours of having to leave work early so outsourced repairer (SSS Tech Solutions) can come and basically do nothing except update software and reboot.
Not fixed. Call Sony with same issue. Then this time, take it away for 2 weeks and replace with crap smaller TV. After it was returned again, absolutely nothing has...Read more

Terrible after sales care
Bought a Sony bravia TV KDXE497073, the screen cracked on its own after 5 months.
Sony diagnosed the TV via "picture messaging" as physical damage, was advised to take it for inspection at one of their recognised shops, rang the shop, was told it was pointless taking it in for inspection, regardless of what they find Sony had already decided, not covered under manufacturers warranty, end of story, goodbye £550.
After minimal research, found numerous similar stories, strange how they don't show up when you read product reviews on retailers websites eh.
Absolutely shocked at Sony, will never purchase another item from them again.

Bravia Nightmare
Sony choose not to recognise any consumer rights under Australian Consumer Law and will make you jump through every hoop in the hope that you'll just give up. This company is trash. My TV died after two years - Sony's answer was firstly to offer me a 40% discount on RRP (i.e. the price you'd walk into a shop and pay for a TV) and then "cost price" on a list of last year's models... again, at the price that you'd walk into a shop and buy them. Every solution was buying a new $1000 TV from Sony.

Appalling customer service for faulty products
We purchased 4 SONY TVs in Dec 2017. One of them had a flickering screen which we immediately informed the retailer about. But they advised that we needed to get in touch with SONY. SONY took us through various troubleshooting methods over the next few weeks. Eventually they realised they needed to send out a technician from SSS, their outsourced service provider. The technician couldn’t fix the issue and took away the TV advising a one week turn around. We ended up having to frequently call to chase up the progress, being put on long holds, hu...Read more
ng up on or simply lied to (“done within next two days, ma’am”) before we finally got the TV back after a month. It came back with a scratch on the screen. We called up SONY and were advised to send pictures then told the way forward was for us to just discuss it SSS. Complete lack of accountability. Same cycle of calls and holds and call-us-back-but-don’t before we finally got reassurance from SSS that they would replace the screen. We were then told to plug in the TV to find out if there was anything wrong with the screen. This is when we discovered an enormous crack running through the entire screen. We then had to tell SSS they had to replace this as well, not just the Perspex cover on which the scratch was made. We were advised another 2 weeks wait for parts to arrive. However, after scheduling in a time for repair, the technician realised SONY had sent the wrong parts. Another week later SONY resent the part and the technician came by to replace it. After dismantling the entire TV he realised the part was again incorrect. We are now awaiting the replacement part again. It is now APRIL 2018. We’ve escalated this issue to SONY numerous times. They have either ignored our complaints, pretended to escalate them, promised call backs that don’t happen or told us to deal with their technicians. We bought a brand new TV and should have received an instant replacement. Instead we’ve been subjected to months of this repair nightmare, which is still ongoing. Absolutely appalling.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Be aware Sony $50 coupon card
I had the Camera Accessory Coupon card and the discount code won't work even I tried many way; no under $50, no discount camera or camera accessories. Online check out still asking to give credit card details and highlight notice in red "please note no discounts will be applied until promotion conditions are met". Sony such high technology company, would not let the coupon card to be activated. Sony does not trust anyone so why customer would believe the discount cost will be refunded. They can say any kind of promotion conditions.

What a horrible pair of headphones!
I purchased a MDR 1000X headphones for about $500. The sound quality on it is great, except when someone calls you or you make a call.
People constantly ask me to take myself of 'speaker' as they can't hear me. So i end up pulling of the headphones and talking to them via the phone directly.
I sent it to them to assess for repair in where they found no fault. I thought great, I can actual use them. But long and behold, nothing changed. Even when I called to complain the problem persisted, the customer service rep asked me if i was on 'speaker...Read more

Sony corporate rip off
I recently purchased a Sony camera, rx100m3, which came with a "camera accessory coupon" to the value of $50, great, that sweetens the deal. Going on line I find that the only product of much use to this model is a battery charger that enables you to charge the cell out of the camera, instead of via the USB cable - a plug in 240 Volts charger, that has been in the box of the three Canon cameras that I've purchased.
The article comes up at about $69, around twice the US price, but I have the $50 donation so why not ? Also turns out that it is...Read more

Avoid xperia mobile phones
I bought a Sony Xperia mobile phone in June, useless by December. Phone calls cut out for no reason. Battery conks by mid afternoon. It is supposed to be waterproof but they want me to pay for it to be fixed because of water damage, my fault apparently. Worst phone ever, and now terrible service. Sony to be avoided in future at all costs!

Do Not Buy Their Products- Bad Customer Service & Poor Quality
We have had issues with their Bravia TV that is 9 months old. It resets itself. Sony tried several different things over the phone, they sent someone out to replace a part. We are still having the same issue months later. During the whole process their customer service has been absolutely PATHETIC and it doesn't help that a lot of the people on the other end of the phone do not understand English. I get better customer service from Telstra. I have had a look on their Facebook page and several people are having the same issue with their TV and the same issue with their poor customer service. Do yourself a favour and buy a SAMSUNG!!!

I wish the hype was true.
I was thrilled to take my new hx400v Sony bridge style camera with me on our first family holiday to Europe, unfortunately my excitement was short lived. After taking some amazing photos at the zoo my hx400v camera decided to have a break down, the LCD display wouldn't display the preview correctly rather it would show some color as grey pixel blotches making the camera useless and letting the days photo opportunities go to waste never to get them back.
At the time I thought best to take some photos (with my phone) of what the LCD was doing ...Read more
just in case a system reset didn't fix the problem and I had to report it to Sony for them to see the extent of the fault. Anyway after trying the standard remove battery memory cards etc and waiting 5min then 30min then 1hr then finally 6hrs the camera came good again. Turns out I shouldnt have tried to get the camera to work again because now Sony say they cant see the problem so it fixed itself and have fun with it until next time it breaks down. Sony doesnt seem to believe its own spin that the memory's you take photos of with your camera happen only once and you want to capture them first time, everytime. > Sony technicians unable to diagnose the problem therefore no problem! > Photos of problem of no value in proving that the camera had an issue that stopped it being able to be used. > Asked to use the camera until the fault happens again and I lose more precious photo opportunities.Similar opinion? Sony Playstation points purchasing
I am writing to ask for your help to hold Sony Playstation Australia accountable for unethical online gaming behaviour. Sony operates an online account for its Fifa Soccer game that allows users to exchange cash for “points” that are then used to gamble on buying “packs” of player’s, essentially you cannot identify what is in the pack until you pay the money for points to open them. This hook is used typically in gambling where punters pay for a “chance” at the unknown. The controls Sony has to set up the account are “intentionally” weak, all a...Read more
child needs to do is falsify their birthday to “prove” they are over 18 which is the only requirement Sony asks for. Recently my 13 year old son falsified his details, created an account and used my credit card without my authority to purchase $520 worth of “points”. As a parent I take accountability for this situation however I have the following questions for Sony, 1) Why do they not use 2 step online identity checking like mobile phone or photo ID to verify age and identity? 2) How is it that an account holder can use the credit card of another person without questions being raised by Sony to the card holder? 3) My other online accounts e.g. iTunes sends me an email each time a purchase is made to ensure I have authorised them, why dos Sony not do this? The game encourages the players to buy packs of new players to improve their team’s performance. I approached Sony with these issues however Sony refused to refund the unauthorised purchases as they said “they would miss out on the revenue”. As part of my complaint they instructed me to take over my sons account as they could only speak to the account holder who has to be over 18! They then asked me for photo identification, mobile number and an email address to deal with me over the phone BUT you only need a fake birthdate to create an online gaming account! I pointed out the irony of what they were telling me however they refused to take action therefore I am asking for anyone's help to act and stop any future occurrences of this for anyone’s vulnerable children.Similar opinion? Buyers beware
Bought an Xperia Z5 in another country, and I now live in Australia. Broke the screen one day and called Sony 'Customer Care'. They checked the model and said yes, it could be repaired. I was advised it would take 5-9 days, at most two weeks. I sent my phone off. 3 weeks later, no status update. Multiple calls and online chats later, I was told it was out of their hands, it's with a third party. Then Sony told me they were switching repairers. 4 weeks later, it still hadn't reached their other repairer. 4 and a half weeks later, an update from ...Read more
Sony, they were sending it back unrepaired.. because it was an overseas model. I wasn't even claiming a warranty.. I wanted to pay for it to be repaired. Went online and it's pages and pages of other users' bad experiences with Sony's after sales support. I loved my phone when I bought it. I've even been considering purchasing a Sony mirrorless full frame camera. Right now, I am certain I will never, ever, EVER touch anything with the Sony name on it ever again.Similar opinion? The app no longer supports my receiver?
The Sony Media Centre app also known as SongPal now no longer supports my Sony Receiver (STR DN 850). There seems to be other models no longer supported. What is going on Sony? My receiver is approx 3 years old. That in my opinion is not old enough for you to just stop supporting it. What game are you playing? Do you think I will now run out and buy a new Sony amp? I'll tell you this IF I do buy another amp it will not be a Sony as you don't seem to support your products for very long. The print about the app not supporting my amp is a cop out, it should have popped up a box or allow roll back. I am not playing your game!

Damien J.asked
Sent my Sony Xperia can ultra back for repair under warranty, they could not repair so they sent a replacement phone a refurbished phone made from used parts, was so disappointed, why not a new phone??
1 answer
Hi Damien, I feel you should get a new phone & not a used phone. Contact consumer affairs for ?possible? help. I'm disheartened with Sony. They make some great equipment BUT should own up to their responsibilities when problems happen! I'm certain if they did they would win back MANY a customer who left them rather than making life difficult for customers like you & I who have supported them. Makes good business sense but it's also the right thing to do as life's to short & it's time for corporations to do the right thing. HEY? Good luck mate!
