Can this clean tiled floor as well?

1 answer

Sam,
We have tiles and carpets, it it probably better on tiles as it basically sweeps loose dust and things into its dust chamber. We find it is able to climb up onto carpet squares and clean them as well.
It does not clean wet floors or wet mop them. The instructions say it will mop but only dry mop (basically sort of polish tiles) It will not remove stuck on stuff from tiles or carpets, just loose stuff.

Hi one of the wheels on my vacuum is not moving it is just going in circles then stops and shows E004 any one know how to fix it ?

Tina,
It could be that it has picked up some thread that has become tangled around the wheel, have a good look at the wheel to check. If it looks good you should call the support agent in Qld. The machine is covered by a 3 year warranty.

Mine did exactly the same thing. Don't bother calling just email - It will save you time.
Send them the fault description in the email as well as a copy of your receipt and warranty card (in the box).
The little motor the turn the wheels has burned out so you will need a replacement part. They just click out/in.
Request replacement wheels (I requested the right hand side but they sent me both sides just in case there was a misunderstanding to what side I suppose soe now I have spare.
Swapped them over and started working perfectly. - Untill today when the side brushes stopped turning.
I think that one is a send back job so yeayyy! - 2x warranty repairs in 2x months... Love the robot, but a little disappointed.

My Stirling robot works fine for about 30 seconds, then stops. Showing Error 0.02. What does this mean? I have taken it apart and cleaned everything in sight. Help please!

I think this is an error about dirt accumulation. You can check in the manual. If you don't have the manual, I suggest you turn the robot upside down and clean the brushes as thoroughly as possible (they need to be dismounted and that's also explained in the manual), also clean the dust bin, the filter, and the little vacuum box at the back. Hopefully this will solve the problem.
Cheers.

How do I get a new battery?

1 answer

The manual lists Install + Fix Solutions as after sales support. 1800 898 750.
Also in the manual is a point to email [email protected] and advise what spare parts are required and the quantity needed.
I would be calling the 1800 number first, they are located in QLD

I would refer to your instruction book for customer service and contact them for advice, otherwise if you google search replacement filters for Stirling robotic vacuum you may get some information there. Good luck!

I've put in a new battery pack & begun charging but the device is now emitting a regular beep - does anyone know why?

I am having the same problems and I've noticed there is a check resistor on the battery (Two smaller tabs). The original battery has 10k resistors, but my new battery is 9.5k. I'm going to stick in a 500 Ohm resistor in series tomorrow to see if this solves the problem, I'll keep you posted.
On the same note this resistor could be a safety protocol to stop users from installing the wrong batteries, installing the wrong battery can cause batteries to leak and make a mess. So do this at your peril.

Zap
Zap

The description in the ebay article for a replacement battery said if you had this problem, you need to put a cardboard spacer underneath.
My battery was already a snug fit so instead I got the two little terminal brushes inside the vacuum and bent them out about 2mm. Now that the machine can confirm there is a battery to charge, it is happily charging.
So I think that is a thermistor to monitor the battery's temperature to prevent overheating while charging.

How do I know I need a new battery?

2 answers
Amanda58
Amanda58

I noticed the battery wouldn't hold a charge for very long. When we first had the machine it would run for an hour or so, then after more than a year it would only run for 10 minutes on a full charge. We go a new battery which has done the trick.

Our robot was not charging so we rang support who said that they would send a new battery. We received it in a matter of days, excellent service.

Does the vacuum have a HEPA filter?

1 answer
tmitc48
tmitc48

A Hepa filter is a High Efficiency Particulate Filter - That is, it filters out really small particles, dust etc. I think the standard says it has to filter out 99.97% of particles of a certain size. If you look at the manual it shows the Sterling has a fine dust filter. Page 8 and 19 of the manual talks about the filter unit. How effective the filter is and what would make it a Hepa filter is debatable. What I do know is that the dust filter in the unit collects a lot of fine dust each time it does its job. What can one expect from a $200 unit? Is it a Hepa filter - Sterling never claim it to be - the cleaner filter however does a good job.

How much were they? Someone is selling one for $70. Are parts still available?

$70 seems a bargain, however you may have to find out how old it is and it would be best to look at it and test it before purchasing. Aldi guarantee them for 3 years, I had to return mine as it stopped working and the service was excellent. I don't know if the guarantee would transfer over and if it didn't what the repairs if required would cost. There is an excellent forum on whirlpool that I read before buying mine. Google Whirlpool Stirling Robot Vacuum cleaner and read it, it is very extensive and covers a few years of posts.
I love mine but buying a second hand one is always a risk.
All the best on you decision.

tmitc48
tmitc48

We paid $190 for our sterling as a new machine about 6 months ago. I expect to get no more than 3 years out of the unit ( if that). You would have to be careful to know just how old the machine you are being offered is and if any warranty is transferable. The sweeper brushes are readily available. I have no idea about repairs or if Sterling will honour its 3 year warranty as there web site mentions nothing about the robot cleaners. A quick call to them would certainly be worth your while to help in decision making. Second hand units of any technology are always an unknown quantity and risk.

I won't replicate the same answers as the replies before me, as I do agree with them. However I will add that you should "not" buy the machine if you intend to use it on carpet. As a vacuum for flat surfaces (wooden floor), it is satisfactory.

my stirling vacuum suddenly wont turn on.after charging and indicating that its already full.when i press the switch on it will just turn on for about 2 seconds then it will shutdown.hope someone can help me.thank you!

There's a button on the side of the vacuum unit. If looking down the circular unit, imagine it representing the face of a clock. Now look at the where the number '4' would ordinarily be, and on the side of the vacuum you will see a single power socket and a switch. Flick the switch and try again. This worked for me, it may not work for you (?) If it continues to fail, then it may well be that the battery needs to be replaced. They unnecessarily replaced mine without incident. Good luck.

tmitc48
tmitc48

1. If its not very old - under 2 years - contact the supplier in Qld - phone number in the manual supplied with the unit. ( Best of luck)
2. Check all wheels, spindles and shafts to make sure none are jammed.
3. Make sure the small hepa filter is not clogged and that the motor on that unit is not damaged - If it has been turned backwards it can develop faults.
4. Check the power switch as indicated in another answer - a quick tap should do - not too hard.
5. If none of the above work then - if its getting older its probably in need of replacement. Contact Sterling for more advice. You might get an answer.

I bought the robot it's fun. The brushes stopped wheeling around after the first go you know the two spiny things at the front on either side? Anyway he is still working. Do you have to unscrew something to just empty it? I pulled the draw out but could still see threw the little window there was lots of dust in there!

I think that the dust you can see is in the Hepa dust filter - it catches the fine dust and first time it seems to fill up really quickly. To clean the filter open the dustbin and then rotate the filter housing. See page 26 of the user manual.

Hi Tara, I'm by no means an expert on the robot, but I'm flattered by your faith in my knowledge! A few thoughts ... My "Leroy" does this when he's a) run out of power or b) the rather small bin needs emptying or (the most likely) the rollers need clearing of hair or threads, which get tightly wound at the ends of the 2 rollers. Take care to not lose the tiny steel thingamebob inside the rubber grommets. If all else fails, contact Stirling's Service Dept. You'll find their details in your instruction booklet. I've had reason to contact them for another product & I found them to be very helpful. I hope you get as much enjoyment from your robot as I do from mine. Cheers, Lilo.

mrnewz

there's a little tab you push to release the roller, hair may be wound around it
