What is health screening

1 answer
Tick Travel Insurance
Anna J.Tick Travel Insurance

Hi Dominic, good question.

In order to have medical costs related to your preexisting conditions covered under your travel insurance policy, you are required to declare all of your preexisting medical conditions. This is any condition you've been diagnosed with or treated for in the past 5 years. The process of declaring your conditions is often called a health screening. But it's not the kind of health test that requires you to visit the doctor: if you go to our website (https://www.tickinsurance.com.au) you can do your medical screening all online a couple of minutes. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Anna

Does what you call the "Basic" product cover cancellations as indicated in the table and the comparison sites. I ask because you indicate in the fine print under the table and in your PDS that this is NOT the case.

Hi David, thanks for the question, it's a very important one.

We cover cancellation to some degree on all of our policies, with the exception of Basic policies. I would really appreciate it if you could let me know on which comparison site you saw the claim that we do cover cancellation on Basic policies, so we can get this fixed. I’ve sent you a private message, just reply to this with the name of the site.

Thanks, Anna

Hi Anna
I cannot recall which comparison site it was now, but no matter, your reply has clarified the situation well.
We are about to go ahead and book.
Could you confirm that it is cheaper to book as a couple than individually, and then how do we enter
pre-existing medical condition if only one of us has the condition?
Is Diabetes 2 condsidered a pre-existing condition?

Tick Travel Insurance
Anna J.Tick Travel Insurance

Hi David, glad I could clarify that.

In terms of the comparison site, not to worry, we'll try to track it down. I can confirm that booking as a couple or a family will save you 10%. Regarding pre-existing medical conditions, during the 4th stage of the online quote and buying screen, click 'Add Medical Conditions'. From this screen, you are able to individually declare your medical conditions. Along with any other pre-existing conditions, yes, you should add your Diabetes Type 2, and answer the associated questions on the medical screening to declare it. Alternatively, you can purchase your policy over the phone, by calling 1300 401 177, and when asked, let the customer service member know about your pre-existing medical conditions.

Hope this helps. Thanks, Anna

Tick Travel Insurance

Hi, would just like to know if for some reason we need to access medical either on the cruise or on any of the islands we are going to visit, do we have to pay the bill upfront and claim afterwards or do we have the option to be able to send the account through to you. I have purchased Tick Insurance for our upcoming cruise. Thank you, Debbie Reid

Anna J.Tick Travel Insurance

Hi Deb,

We would encourage you to call us on +612 9333 3963 - our 24/7 emergency assistance line - as soon as you feel you need access to medical services. This allows us to provide assistance and guidance on how to best help you.

Regarding payment up front vs us paying the medical bill at the time of the incident, this completely depends on the situation. There are many factors that affect this, including whether or not you are able to pay up front or not, and whether the hospital will accept our involvement at that time. This is why, should you require any medical services, you should call us immediately to get the right advice for your specific situation, so we can help you.

In terms of claiming back a medical expense you paid for at the time of the incident, if the medical expense is less than $500, you can go ahead and pay for it on the spot without contacting us, and get reimbursed upon your return, providing you show us a receipt and medical certificate. But if the amount is more than $500, you must contact us prior.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Anna

Hi K. Seneviratne, thanks for reaching out. I've arranged for a copy of this answer to be sent to your email too.

In order to remove the excess on your policy, enter your basic trip details on www.tickinsurance.com.au and click 'Get a price'. Then, on the compare page, simply click 'Remove your excess', and you'll be able to see the reduction in price.

In answer to your second question, I'm happy to confirm that you would be covered for all medical expenses relating to your pre-existing condition, so long as you’ve declared it during the health screening process, and it has been accepted.

Thanks, Anna

Anna J.Tick Travel Insurance

Hi Stefanus, thank you for reaching out.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a list of automatically covered conditions. All medical conditions can be declared in our customer journey online or over the phone. You will automatically get an answer if your conditions are covered and if there are any additional premium to cover them. Please note the medical screening process is done in the last step of the purchase journey and no medical certificates are required upfront. I hope this helps, and if you need anything else just let me know or call us on 1300 401 177 to discuss further.

Just wondering if there is any excess, apart from the stated policy excess for elderly travellers. A lot of insurers have an extra $3000 excess for over 80's?

2 answers

No i looked into a lot of travel insurance and Tick seemed to have just the normal excess

Tick Travel Insurance
Anna J.Tick Travel Insurance

Hi Heather, thanks for asking, and thanks for helping out Maureen.

I'm happy to report that Maureen is right, we don't charge an extra excess for elderly travellers. Should you make a claim for an event, you will just have the standard excess, applied per claim section, per person.

There is an exception here - if you are taking part in certain sports or leisure activities e.g. mountain biking, playing amateur rugby, or taking part in martial arts, you would pay a higher excess - the higher excesses here range from $250-$500. But this is dependent on the activity, not your age.

Hope this helps.

If we take out top cover for our cruise around Asia, does this cover us if we needed to be taken off of the ship by helicopter to a hospital?

Anna J.Tick Travel Insurance

Hi Nannankat, thanks for getting in touch.

Yes, we would cover the cost of a helicopter to bring you to hospital and any other repatriation expenses, if it was medically necessary and a reasonable requirement in the situation. All our policies cover unlimited overseas medical expenses.

If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, please make sure you declare all of them in the last step of the journey to make sure we provide you with the right level of cover.

Thanks, Anna

If I take out a policy the same day as my travel departure will I still be covered?

1 answer
Tick Travel Insurance
Anna J.Tick Travel Insurance

Hi Eddie, great question.

Yes you will. As long as you purchase your policy before you commence your travel, you can still buy a policy on the same day as you start your travels, and it will be valid. For example, if your holiday starts with a flight overseas, you can purchase your policy any time before your flight.

I note the person who had had trouble claiming due to having had Anixety and Depression in the last 5 years. Does this only apply if the medical condition or reason for claim was due to the mental illness? IE if you fall and break your leg is that hospitalisation still covered despite the previous anxiety and depression?

1 answer
Tick Travel Insurance
Anna J.Tick Travel Insurance

Hi Elise,

Our policies provide cover for unlimited overseas medical expenses. If an accident happens and this is related to a pre-existing medical condition which has been declared and accepted in our website, there are not issues when claiming. If an accident happens (which is not related to a pre-existing medical condition), all overseas medical expenses are covered following our PDS. So in your example if you declare anxiety and depression and we accept the declaration you will be covered for any costs related to that condition. Likewise if you break your leg and the cause or costs do not relate to an undeclared pre-existing condition then you will be covered for those costs too.

If you have any questions, feel free to email [email protected] or visit our website to get Livechat support.

I will be going to USA and Canada next year, l would like to know does the cover start from the moment l purchase my insurance or from the start date of trip?
I have never used you before, l normally go through Covermore and found them fantastic when l have had to make a claim, but they are more expensive.
My concern with your Company is the bad reviews regarding when claims have been made..

Hi Jo,

Thank you for your enquiry. Cancellation cover starts from the moment you purchase your policy (If the policy you selected includes cover for cancellation). We will pay your unrecoverable travel costs and expenses in the event that it is necessary to cancel your trip, up to the amount specified for your selected policy.

Regarding your claims question, we always assess claims based on our Product Disclosure Statement and we ask our customers to read the PDS to decide if the product is right for them. If you have any specific question about our policies, please email [email protected]

The company will refuse your claim. They will then hope that you are too stupid or lazy to appeal the the ombudsman. If you do appeal then you will win what they had to pay you for your claim anyway. If you don’t appeal they get to keep all your money that you were legally entitled to as you had a valid claim. That’s where the real money is made. Why sell a policy for $200 when you can save $10,000 from denying a valid claim. Moral is folks: appeal to the government ombudsman, it’s free and easy and you will get what you are owed. Scroll past the fake reviews of people who are so happy to have signed up online for this wonderful great value insurance that they have never had to claim on. See the reviews from actual customers. See how heartless this business can be in your time of need. When you are sick and injured overseas do you want to be arguing with your insurance company about getting medical assistance guarantees at the hospital? Do you want to be stuck getting surgery in Cambodia because they will not repatriate you?
