Hi Kath, thanks for reaching out - good question.

Yes, we will provide cover for medical evacuation, which will relocate you to a suitable medical facility, or back home to Australia, as long as the medical situation is assessed and it is deemed medically necessary. I hope this helps.

why do u not cover liquidation of a travel company.

Anna J.Tick Travel Insurance

Hi Elaine, thanks for reaching out.

We do provide cover in the case of financial default of any scheduled service airline, hotel, accommodation provider, motor vehicle rental or hire agency, bus line, shipping line or railway company. We provide cover if you have to re-arrange your trip, if your trip has to be cancelled because you cannot re-arrange it, or if you have to return home because of the financial default of an above company, and this causes you to incur additional expenses. However, as with any insurance, there are some exclusions, which include financial default of travel agents, tour operators or booking agents.

thanku Anna. However. There must be exceptional circumstances. Such as my friends who are out of pocket for $24.000 through no fault of their own because Bentours went into liquidation. They took out travel insurance with your company in all good faith. my husband, and,I were travelling with them to celebrate both our 50th wedding anniversaries and have all been saving up for this trip. My travel insurance company have made an exception for us and have paid out the full cost of the trip to us. Why can't u do the same for my friends. They do not have alot of money and are pensioners.
this was to be there last trip. They are devastated. Their trip was booked over one year ago. The,airline will only refund the airfare to the travel company not to my friends. Because the travel company no longer exists, this is a ridiculous situation. With the number of people travelling paying travel insurance and never claiming surely in all good will u can make an exception as my travel insurance company has. What is $24.000 to your company, peanuts, where to my friends its everything. My friends have provided your company with all their documentation, so you can see how genuine they are.
Please pay them out, the full amount, its upsetting to see them so devestated
I can provide you with their names

Anna J.Tick Travel Insurance

Hi Elaine, I'm genuinely sorry for your friends missing out on their holiday. I'm afraid I can't comment on how your insurer handled your case, but making an exception in one case is unfair on other customers that don't get the same special allowances made. This is why we are consistent in evaluating all claims against our PDS, which seems to exclude the situation your friends are in - although I am not part of the claims team, nor am I familiar with the exact details of their claim. I feel terrible for the situation your friends find themselves in, but we aren't able to make a change to our policies for one case, as it would mean evaluating some claims differently from others. I'm very sorry your friends are going through this, and they are able to appeal the decision of their claim by emailing [email protected]. This will trigger a re-investigation of their case by a team independent of claims. I hope this helps in some way. Thanks, Anna

We have travel insurance through our Amex card which will cover the first 60 days in Thailand. Can we get cover for the final 30 days of our trip?

2 answers

Ompy

I don't see why not. When completing the application for Tick Travel Insurance put the 'last' date of your 60 days cover with Amex as the 'first' date of the next 30 days. You will be required to give an 'end' date which will be the day you arrive back home. Therefore ensuring you are covered for the entire period. You will also be able to confirm this by using live chat with Tick. Hope this helps.

Tick Travel Insurance
Anna J.Tick Travel Insurance

Hi there, thanks for reaching out.

Unfortunately, you aren't able to purchase our travel insurance for the final 30 days of your trip. The reason for this is that your policy start date must be the date you leave on your travels, and you cannot purchase travel insurance from us after you have already arrived at your destination. I would recommend seeing if our cover is right for you, and if it is, purchasing a policy from us that covers your entire 90 day journey. Alternatively, if you have already purchased, we have a 14 day cooling off period, within which you are able to get a full refund on your policy as long as you have not already used any of the benefits of your policy, or commenced travel.

I hope this helps. Thanks, Anna

Anna J.Tick Travel Insurance

Hi MariMar, thanks for reaching out.

Yes, I'm pleased to say we would be able to provide you with cover for up to 365 days at a time. I would really like to be able to provide you with a quote, but I'm not qualified to quote you, and there are too many factors that would affect your premium. It's fast and easy to get a tailored quote online by going to our website: https://www.tickinsurance.com.au/. Here you can declare any medical conditions and get a price instantly.

I hope this helps.

Hi jsh, we consider a family as two adults who are in a partner relationship and their accompanying dependent childre. If you are travelling with you sister, you would need to select cover for individuals but you can still buy a policy together. If you have any other questions, please send us an email to [email protected]

I am trying to get a policy to cover myself, husband and daughter (17) and her boyfriend (16) for when we go on our cruise in the South Pacific. It seems to let me move forward with the quote but I want to ensure my daughters' boyfriend is covered as he will be under our guardianship for the whole time. I had one consultant over the phone assure me it was all good however I can't find anything in writing. Has anyone else experienced this? Any comments most appreciated.

Hey! If nothings in writing I would be VERY concerned, because if it came time to claim something for him they would probably tell you that if nothings in writing than you arent covered. This company is very slack and has extremely poor customer service. I would say you are safer going with someone else.

Tick Travel Insurance
Anna J.Tick Travel Insurance

Hi Girltoni, thanks for the question.

Your daughter would be covered for free, as long as you name her and enter her details on your policy. Regarding your daughter's boyfriend, he can be covered, but since he is not a relative, the free coverage for under 18 year olds doesn't apply: he can be on your policy, but he would need to pay for his coverage. Unfortunately, due to the uniqueness of this situation, this can't be done through the website, and so you would be best to email [email protected] to get a quote and purchase your policy. This will ensure you have it in writing that your daughter's boyfriend will receive coverage.

Thanks, Anna

If you go on a cruise and need to see the onboard doctor... are you covered?

Yes. My Tick Insurance Standard policy provides Unlimited Medical expenses cover in addition to Emergency expenses cover of $10,000.

Anna J.Tick Travel Insurance

Hi Bronz, thanks for reaching out, and thanks for the response Arthur.

If you need to see the doctor due to injury or illness, yes you will be covered, as long as you have declared your pre-existing conditions. Declaring your medical conditions is easy and fast, and can be done when your purchase your policy online, during the stage before paying for your policy.

If you don't declare your pre-existing medical conditions, you will still be covered for medical claims, but not if they are related to a pre-existing condition that you didn't declare.

Thanks, Anna

So I was emailed saying you have ‘asked a question’ and for me to response with an answer. Don’t see a question here... unsure why you ‘rated’ your insurance against my post? If the volcano goes in Bali right now and your stuck, you 100% absolutely will not be covered FYI.

You will be covered for things like medical coverage - but not the most important things such as accomodation, new flights, extra meals etc.

Tick Travel Insurance
Anna J.Tick Travel Insurance

Hi Kel, Tick policies include cover for snorkelling and scuba diving. We also provide cover for Natural Disasters that are unknown at the time of purchase, you simply need to add Natural Disasters Cover in the last step of the purchase journey.

What is the method of payment should there be a hospital stay or procedure in the US? E.g. contact Tick to pay or pay and claim? It can be very expensive

1 answer
Tick Travel Insurance
Anna J.Tick Travel Insurance

Hi JAE,

Good question, thanks for reaching out.

If you need any type of medical assistance at all, I would urge you to call our 24/7 assistance line on: +612 9333 3963.

This is because our assistance team will be able to provide recommendations and advice on your specific situation, rather than give a general answer. They can also liaise directly with the hospital.

In some circumstances, if it is reasonable and medically necessary to do so, we may guarantee payment to a hospital on your behalf, meaning you do not have to pay up front and claim back later. But this is evaluated on a case by case basis, and I cannot comment on whether your situation would be dealt with in this way.

However, if the medical cost is less the $500, we ask the insured to pay up front and claim when you return home.

Thanks, Anna

i want to hire a scooter in bali, if i hire a 110cc scooter, am i covered?
I dont have a motorcycle license in australia, just a car license

1 answer
Tick Travel Insurance
Anna J.Tick Travel Insurance

Hi Vince, good question.

If you were to hire anything over 125cc, you would need to hold a license that would be needed for driving the equivalent rated motorcycle/scooter in Australia (e.g. motorcycle license).

But since yours will be a 110cc, you just need to hold a driving license (e.g. car license) that is appropriate for the country you are in. Also, you must wear a crash helmet, regardless of whether it's the law to do so in Bali, and irrespective of whether you are the driver or a passenger. Hope this helps.

I honestly would not like to comment and I guess your coverage. Not sure if you heard and I can only tell you what I heard and of course OS, a chap was lifted out for what they thought was a heart attack, no cardiologist at that hospital, he was again lifted out and it turned out $630,000 out of pocket, he then was found he only had angina so travel co would not pay as he did not have a heart attach.... only in the US this could happen but makes you wonder.

Tick Travel Insurance
Anna J.Tick Travel Insurance

Hi Roy, good question, and thanks for your comments Sue.

I can confirm that we would cover the cost of an air ambulance helicopter, if it was medically necessary to do so. Also, when purchasing your policy, you should declare any pre-existing health conditions during the buying process, or your coverage will be affected. I hope this helps.

Hi Joan, great question. And thank you Margaret for replying so fast!

We consider all pre-existing health conditions, although we cannot guarantee we will cover every condition. You can quickly and easily log all of your pre-existing health conditions by filling in the 'Get a Quote' form, and then entering your details on our website here: https://www.tickinsurance.com.au/. We offer 24/7 phone support for emergency assistance so we can help you when you're travelling, but unfortunately, we don't sell or edit policies over the phone. Hope this helps.

Hi Steve,

You can add Natural Disasters cover on your policy in the last step of the journey. This includes cover for Volcanos according to the level of cover selected. If you refer to Mount Agung, please note this is a known event and we are currently not covering any claims arising from this event.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Can you please confirm that if we need to cancel a trip for our family of 4 then what our excess would be on our top cover policy. My understanding is that it would be $200 but from my initial inquiry it is $800 or even $2000 (10 flight segments). I am totally confused and disheartened if the later is the case as that pretty much defeats the purpose of taking out the policy in the first place?

1 answer
Tick Travel Insurance
Anna J.Tick Travel Insurance

Hi Narelle,

The way we charge the excess is per person, per section per event. I can confirm that for your family of 4 (including you) all claimed for cancelling your trip before departure, your excess would be $200 per person, $800 in total. When claiming pre-trip cancellation, you wouldn't be charged an excess for every flight segment you had in your trip. Alternatively, you do have the option removing your excess entirely. This is called an excess eliminator, and means you won't pay the standard excess, although this will increase the price of your premium. If you want to do this, I recommend you email [email protected] as soon as possible to allow them to apply this to your policy. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Anna
