Car was good. Some improvements suggested with service
The VW Golf was good at base rate. After adding on insurance it became similar to other car rentals. The options for tolls was very frustrating. Can't just get the tolls charged to you like a normal car rental. Have to purchase a package or risk paying cost of tolls plus $38 admin fee. This was a problem for me when I accidentally went through a toll because I missed an exit. The Carhood office closed at 5pm which was a challenge for me, I couldn't get there in time. nesss model is good but I found for the cost and inconvenience it may be better to get a car via normal car rental place. Have to pay a deposit also which gets refunded. Took a long time to get the paperwork done at the office and there were a few people to get though.1 comment

Great service and friendly team!
It is a great service to use. Thank you so much! Car was perfect. Perfectly clean. And all team members I spoke to on the phone or face to face where lovely.
There where a couple of things.
1. The tolls fee, we had the car for 4 days but only needed toll pass for 2 days yet had to pay for all 4days. (We didn’t end up using that option as the price ended up very expensive for no reason).
2. Opening time of the warehouse on a weekday. Please look at the time your warehouse opens on a weekday. 9am is extremely late when people are traveling. W...Read more

Disappointed
I was disappointed upon signing for the car was only told then that the office would not be open when I returned the car.
I did not fill the fuel as I was late, totally my fault, and after not paying a toll I asked that I could charge the toll to my account and received an Email from your company that my request was being reviewed and have heard no more.
Disappointed that I couldn’t talk to somebody live.
Right at the moment I don’t feel I would use Carhood again but I hope somebody would get in touch and change my mind.

Surprisingly pleased!
From the first phone call as I walked out of the airport I was impressed with the attitude and professionalism of the people I spoke to. The gentleman who drove the bus and picked me up was absolutely fantastic, such a positive bloke.
The car I booked was clean and tidy albeit a little older than I expected but nonetheless clean and tidy.
I only had a short trip and the car performed as well as I would have expected, definitely no complaints. I have already informed my staff to utilise the services of Car Hood when they next visit Melbourne.

Everything was perfect
Custom service, the car, the shuttle to the airport : perfect. I have no complain about the company. The reception was good, they gave us explanations about insurances. As we don't speak english fluently they took time to explain us the contract, the tolls, the insurances. The vehicule was the one I've booked, the good size but not the gearbox (I've booked a manual one, not an automatic, but it doesn't really matter). We booked ahead this car for a 10 days trip around this amazing land (Victoria : great Ocean Road and Melbourne).

Extremely poor customer service
I booked a car through Carhood for a three day trip in Victoria. After being taken from the airport to the office I was told:
1. The shuttle does not operate on Sunday night, so I would have to catch a taxi once I dropped the car off
2. They were moving offices over the weekend and I would have to drop the car back at the new location.

I could not find an open petrol station to fill the car. The taxi ride to the airport cost me an additional $30. I was very unhappy and when I rang the next day (I had to call twice as no-one returned my call) I was told that the shuttle hours were in the fine print, and that the taxi difference was only $10. Carhood avoiding taking responsibility for damage to my car
I was very happy with this service the first 2 times I used it BUT when I picked my car up in June after an overseas trip I discovered on the trip back home that the manufacturer installed sunroof was not working properly.

I left my car with Carhood Melbourne for 30 days. The car was rented out 21 days and had done 3409Km during the period. After many follow ups I'm still waiting for the payment. I was told that company has cash flow issues and will be paid soon. Now they even don't reply my emails.
Even if they pay you ( Which I doubt ) It's not worth,

Hidden charges, ridiculously short open hours, crappy cars!
I thought l would go with them as their 'day rate' was cheaper than most others, especially from the suppliers at the airport - BIG MISTAKE!
1. They are 20 mins from Melbourne airport, that is after waiting 20 mins to be picked up by their shuttle bus.
2. They charge, wait for it, $40 ADMIN FEE if you at going to use tolls. That is on top of the tolls! You can select the $17 per day coverage but that doesn't work out to be cheaper in my case at all!

CARHOOD IS UNFAIR
Carhood are not fair and reasonable. I returned the vehicle with a full tank of fuel. They charged me a fee of $50 to put an additional $3 worth of fuel in the tank. I supplied photos of the gauge which in my opinion is was full, and the photo of the receipt of $40.00 for fuel. You cannot call them, to discuss, they do not reply to your emails.
I DO NOT RECOMEND USING CARHOOD.

My car was stolen while rented out. 10 months later they still owe me $3.5k
I left my car with Carhood while I was travelling overseas. During the trip they informed me my car had been stolen while being rented out.
It's been a nightmare to get hold of them. They still owe me their insurance excess ($3000) and my owner earnings ($500).
Terrible customer service, case manager changed over this period of time, CEO made an excuse statement promising payments would resume within 4 to 6 weeks. It's been more than 2 months since this statement.
They don't take phone requests anymore, you get redirected to a live chat on their website. But the chat is not "live anymore". It's just a gateway to a generic email, with a not followed-up promise to get back to me within 2 business days.
Avoid at all cost.

Got stung $360 for a minor repair was only picked up a one day after I returned the car
On the last and final occasion I used carhood, my (fully insured) vehicle was checked for damage on return and ok'd. A day later I was informed there was a mark (see the image they send me: it looks like a stone chip) on the door and they were withholding my $500 deposit.

They owe me a lot of money. Despite follow-up they have not paid me at all for the last 3 times they rented my car out. On top I got saddled with toll fees and an Uber fare for pickup which they said they would refund. It's frustrating to read good reviews from renters who are using cars from people like me without Carhood paying for them!!

Need better face to face customer service. 1 head light was out and I was told to fix it myself because they didn’t have the time which I did not have the time to do hence why I hired a car in the first place. Upon returning the car the depot was not even made aware of me contacting them to report the faulty headlight.

Smooth process and great staff
Price got us through the door but the excellent staff made it a pleasure from airport shuttle to car collection. No shuttle available on Sunday afternoon the only issue. Drop off point in industrial area could be a concern for single people outside normal hours.

I doubt any one got paid from carhood. Do not leave your car there at all. They just make money out of the car. Never pay you.
I have left my car there 3 times now and it hasn't been rented out so i cannot speak personally about not getting paid for rent however I have read a number of other reviews that claim they haven't been paid or had to wait a long time.
My car was rented out for 3 weeks in August 2018, so 1 year ago and still no payment! I would strongly discourage anyone from using this service to rent their car out.
