Disappointing customer service
Up until today, I have been satisfied with the insurance and the customer service that Health.com.au provide. I was so satisfied that I decided to become an advocate and got my wife to sign up too. I was told that I would recieve a $100 gift voucher for the referral... great! It never came.
I called up a few weeks after I received a text message saying the gift card had been sent and was told that it can take up to 10 business days to arrive and the recent public holidays may have delayed it further. A few weeks later I called to tell them ...Read more
that the voucher had still not arrived. The representative told me that this had happened to a few customers and he would look into it and arrange to get a voucher sent out to me ASAP. This also didn't happen. When I called back a few weeks after that I was told that the voucher had been sent, signed for and received over a month ago. I followed up with Aust Post who informed me that the $100 voucher was sent with no signature required. I asked to speak to a supervisor at Health.com.au and relayed this information back to her. She told me that the Aust Post representative had made a mistake and that she was looking at documentation that clearly stated that a signature was required upon receipt of the item. I called Aust Post again who confirmed that no signature was required nor obtained and emailed me through documentation showing as much. I called the Health.com.au supervisor back who again told me that she was looking at documentation that stated that a signature was required upon receipt of the item. I told her that Aust Post had sent me through documentation showing that no signature was required. I asked if she could send through the documentation that Health.com.au had showing that a signature was required. At this point she informed me that she did not have any documentation, and after placing me on a hold, could not locate any such documentation. She then stated she wasn't talking about my specific case she was just speaking in general terms. What the...? So now after trying to fob me off several times, the supervisor has told me that she won't be able to investigate the matter any further today but will talk to her operations manager on Monday to see if they can resolve this problem. So disapointing. Health.com.au, I thought we were friends but you stuffed me around and that's not how friends should act. I'm sorry but I think we might have to break up.Similar opinion? Horrible Fund
Do not use this Health Fund. My husband is very sick and need to go into hospital urgently only to be told if he has another problem while being operated on they will not cover him if he needs to be resuscitated, they call it special circumstances. I called the Health Ombudsman and they said they have to cover him he is only not covered if he has to have another surgery but they still refused to cover him and so the operation had to be cancelled and now waiting to go through public sector. How disgraceful.

Used to be so good, now terrible!
I was a health.com.au customer for 4 years and have just changed my health insurer. When I joined with them they had the best product out there, especially in terms of extras cover. In 2014 they told me they would be changing my cover, I would be paying more and losing some extras but once I had children they would be added to my policy at no extra charge. I agreed.
2015 I lost more extras.
Had a baby this year and called to add him to my policy only to be told it would be more expensive. Their reasoning was because I had a single policy, i...Read more

Very limited rebates
No rebates provided for post natal Nursing or breastfeeding Lactation Consultations. Not on par with most other health funds. Would not recommend.

Terrible, agree with all the negative reviews!
The price was ok, definitely not the best. Impossible to make claims or speak to a person, OR get a consistent answer. Ended up terminating mine and my partners policy. Quick to take your money and say no or make any claim impossible.

Absolutely do not sign up
Initially signed up because they were competitively priced. Have put the premium up regularly by large amounts (e.g $60 last month) whilst removing features of their premium cover I.e IVF. Unwilling to negotiate. Difficult to make claims even though you're paying absolute premium. suspiciously easy to set up. Questionable affiliation with iselect.

Excellent
Been to hospital twice in the three years I've been with them and no problems both times I made claims. They've always been extremely helpful, courteous, an when the second hospital admission was an emergency, they said don't worry, we'll take care of everything... and they did. Brilliant.
Only problem is that when I swipe the card for a rebate at my physio/remedial massage, their readers don't cover health.com.au.

Excellent customer service and all claims paid immediately
Been with them for 2 years and love them. I always use the 'Live chat' on their website for any questions and concerns, which is so convenient.
They have paid out for the birth of my daughter and other minor operations as well as dental and chiropractor visits.

Great!!
I changed from Bupa after many years. Looking for a cheaper option and found Health.com.au and saved $49 per month. I have made 4 claims for Physio and dental in a couple of months and have had no problem. I can do it all online and don't have to wait on line to check how my cover is going or wait in line. All good, Happy customer.

Worst health fund in the country
I have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with what I would consider the worst health fund in the country. Having been with a couple in my time I was looking to save some money and hopped onto iselect who told me about health.com.au, which was cheaper and covered more.
From day one it has been a joke. There systems did not work when you try to get the correct rebate. They then send me emails telling me that I will now be paying more than originally quoted. All because their systems don't work properly. They don't have branches, so good...Read more

Was with Bupa and made the great choice to change for Health.com.au
We were with BUPA and well, were not receiving much benefit. When we started shopping around we found Health.com.au and loved the proposition. We have made several claims for lens, dentist and massages and were all paid back super quick and easy. Cant speak for IVF related things but for the rest, happy days, happy Health.com.au customer here

Do Not Use Health.com.au
Was told by hospital I was not covered, so rang Health.com.au and said you covered me last year what is going on? They said well we change your cover without me agreeing and I am not covered for IVF or pregnancy anymore. When I joined Health.com.au I made sure I was covered that is why I am in a health fund and was for over 2 years, then one day they change my cover even though they knew that is what I wanted health insurance for and could see I been using health insurance for, so they take it off but still every few months my payments go up. Fraud. I am going with this to the news.

Looking for a health fund? Do not use Health.com.au
My wife and I have been members with Health.com.au for over 18 months without making a single claim. We are in the process of family planning and wanted to know where we stood from an IVF point of view and what we were and were not covered for. Upon ringing Health.com.au I was told they had "changed our plan", the had made a business decision to remove this from the cover. The whole reason we had signed to them was that IVF was included.
When I inquired as to what the cost differential was between the IVF and not having IVF they would not di...Read more
sclose this information. I had offered to back pay the difference as the email notification which they sent advising us of this was not received. Absolutely disgraceful that they can do this and effect people in this way. This is a fraud, reducing your service offering and increasing your price. No other industry in Australia would get away with this!!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Bad service
I would never recommend Heath.com ever! We were with them for 2 years and to find out they sent us an email to advise our cover had changed and IVF was removed when I called to confirm they covered for the item number with IVF(Which was what we needed)! When I asked that they send the email again as we didn't receive it and would have called straight away to make sure we didn't have this removed they couldn't resend the email! Then the gentleman I spoke with advise that I go find another health fund and they will write me a clearance certificat...Read more
e! So instead of wanted to make a customer happy and keep a customer they were happy for me to change! I said to this gentleman if I did this in my line of work I would be fired. I advised u could never recommend them to anyone and if u knew of anyone in this healt fund I would advise them to change immediately! To let a customer leave and be unhappy to very unprofessional!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Bad service
Was with this health fund for a year only using it a couple of times for chriro and had full hospital and extras cover for a couple. We got into financial difficulty and had to put the cover on hold we then started the cover again thinking that this wouldn't effect our waiting period as discussed with customer services to find out they had started our waiting periods again and the only way to rectify this would be to pay out the arrears I couldn't believe it clearly we didn't have that amount of money at that time. The customer service we had was appalling no sympathy at all for our situation. I have never met a buisness that are happy to let there clients go.

Lovely customer service!!!
Easy to call, or chat on the website, or Facebook page. Polite customer service. I up-gradated my police today and I was very pleased with customer service provided, the agent took the time to explain the police in a very nice manner. I had heaps of questions, as I am am not originally from Australia, it took a bit of time to understand the system of how things work in the health care system, very patient customer service, not just this time but whenever I have to contact Heath.com.au. Great experience :)

Hi being a member of health.com will I be able to get into our public hospital in Hobart quicker than some one without insurance ? Emergency’s excepted
1 answer

Hi There!
Unfortunately, holding private cover does not guarantee quicker access or treatment in a public hospital, as exactly when you get admitted depends on a number of factors.
For example the type of treatment you need, in addition to the availability of both staff and the required facilities, are things that could impact how quickly you're admitted.
As a private patient, you can request to be treated by your specialist of choice in a public hospital, however this would need to be arranged in consultation with staff at the facility.
I hope that information helps!
Please don’t hesitate to get back in touch if you have further questions.

If considering changing over my current health insurance from Medibank Private, is there a waiting period incurred on claiming? I am looking for health cover that is basic and easy to claim where necessary. I am not a high user of medical treatments.
Thanks Kathlin
1 answer
Most health funds have waiting periods for various procedures. This is normal and usually in place to stop people getting cover just as they need treatment then stopping cover once all their treatment is complete.
Im not sure on what specific policy health.com.au has in this regard. However, many will waive the waiting period if you are transferring from a previous equal/higher level of cover or even as as incentives to switch over. My advise is simply to shop around and ask all your questions before committing to any health fund.
As I have previously mentioned, my experiences with health.com.au have been good. I am personally not a high user of medical treatments and it works for me personally. I have also found it easy to claim but i have only used the HICAPS system of claiming.
Hope that helps
