Almost totally dissatisfied. Where's the Oxygen?

published

I bought the Hot Devil Super Oxy kit and after barely 15 minutes of use, brazing two 1/4" pipes, ran out of oxygen just prior to finishing the second. This was a really small job and if I have to pay $30 for oxygen every time I do a small job like this, I think I'll cut my losses and just bin it instead.
It's a shame, because the unit is really nice to use, lights easily and is pretty good on the controls too. This is the only reason I gave it an extra star.

Purchased in April 2021 at Supercheap Auto Physical Store for A$249.00.

Worst product ever- total ripoff

published

I bought this from Sprint Auto to do a small braise welding job, 2 oxygen cylinders later I’m still not finished, (and I do know how to weld!) It says on the box you can oxy cut, no way is there enough oxygen in that bottle to do any cutting let alone welding, just terrible, and forget about flame control, which is very important when dealing with a hazardous application like gas welding. I went back to Sprint Auto and the owner said “yer everyone complains about that”, why are they still selling them!

A good practical joke

published

I seem to have had the experience that hot devil has suggested I recieve. The flame has very little control at the valve and it takes too long to get a stable flame. By the time you achieve that you have expended the meager oxy supply. May be useful if you need to tack braze a single point. Having recieved this as a birthday present it still is not worth the money I spent on it.

Shocking Oxygen Time!

published

Don't take the bottle of oxygen SUBA diving or you will drowned! By the time I got used to lighting it (not easy) I got about 10 mins of oxy time then it ran out. A very handy product but come on guys. You pay $100 for the unit then $30-$40 every 10 mins, what a joke. I thought I was going to save me but now it is going to cost me. Not happy

Should Not Be Sold - Totally Impractical as a 'Welder'

published

I endorse all the other comments; Very Poor Value control wastes a lot of the gas, Cylinders don't have enough capacity to do a small job on thin material.
Cylinders can't be refilled, great for the environment.

Use it for the first time and the oxygen ran in approx 4 minutes. Very disappointing as was halfway through a small repair.Oxygen replacement bottle is very expensive for the amount.

Couldn't get any oxy through. Took it back to Sydney tools. 2 weeks later they decided to replace it. Another week to get it in. 3 minutes of oxy and empty. How can selling this garbage be legal?

Oxy ripoff!!!

published

Bought this Hot Devil oxy kit from SuperCheap yesterday $129.99.
Should have read revues first as this is certainly a ripoff when it comes to the tiny amount of oxygen supplied. It only lasted 5 minutes enough to bronze a 6mm s/s nut to 12mm s/s nut.
I am not very impressed given that the instructions on the box say that it should last 20 minutes.
I will try and contact Hot Devil for an explanation.

I bought one of these ro supercheap the fancy one with gauges and all thought it would suit my needs but was very annoyed after doing one job (brazing one fitting into each end of a pipe) that the oxy bottle had run out. A replacement was $48.00 nz about a third of the cost of the whole thing now i am stuck with this piece of sxxt

Very disappointed

published

I purchased my kit for $99 on special. The first bottle of oxygen did about 10 to 12 small silver solder jobs before it ran out. I thought I'd just picked up a faulty bottle so I didn't worry too much. I bought a new bottle and found myself stuck in the middle of a tricky job with no oxygen after about 10 minutes of use.
I was warned that the hot devil kits were not good value even at the special price but surely you can expect more than 10 minutes of oxygen for a $25 layout. A total waste of money it seems not to mention a huge inconvenience and hold up with the job.

Purchased in April 2021 for A$99.00.

Works ok but you get gouged big time on the oxygen bottle. Has a tiny amount of oxygen 40g in a 1000ml bottle. Lasted 10 minutes then had to buy another for $30. Pay more for a better one and it will pay for itself as others oxygen is much much much cheaper. DYOR.

Original oxygen bottle lasted no more than five minutes, I thought great they havent filled it. So I purchase a new bottle and the same thing, no more than five minutes of oxygen.
Now I am stuck with an oxy set but can't afford to purchase any more oxygen.

The torch itself if looks well made and is convenient but the oxygen only lasts a few minutes. I barely finished a single small job. Compare the weight of the oppositions cylinders and you will see they are much heavier.

Can the oxy bottle last longer than 4 mins is there a way around this. If not it is way too expensive to use.

youll get more consistent heat burning the bank notes used to pay for this. Try the Tradeflame or equivalent that use the white oxy bottle. Theyll give you about an hour. You can fit those with an adaptor that also allow the larger bottles - type E etc

Hello Shane,
The oxygen cylinder will last approximately 20 minutes when the flame is set correctly. If the initial trade map 'dirty flame' is too large, then the oxygen will be used up far more quickly. We recommend between 70-100mm for the initial 'dirty flame' prior to introducing the oxygen. If you would like to discuss this further please contact our office on 03 9775 0713

Takes too long to set the flame as valves are very touchy ansd i understand about the flame. Have been using oxy equipment for the past 45 years bought this kit for home as now retired.

Could you substitute this from trade tools ? Ok at $44 it's dearer but should have a lot more oxygen in it ?

I have not tried to substitute the cylinder. I believe, from what I've read, that the cylinder attachment on the Hot Devil is unique and the hose attachment will not interchange with other bottles.
