Scam and claim isnt fairly assessed; cannot speak with claim team.
I decided to go with Medibank for pet insurance as we currently have top health insurance (including maternity cover) with them. Had heard very poor reviews re companies not fairly assessing pet insurance claims, and had hoped Medibank would be different. Sadly not. Received an email earlier this month advising our premium would be increasing by $13 per month, just for the annual premium increase. We submitted a pre-authorisation claim for treatment for our dog (who we have not claimed anything for previously) and the review process is tedious ...Read more
- email only (with no way to contact the claim review team via phone) and sadly as expected, declined for reasons that can only be seen to be due the Company not wanting to have to pay for legitimate treatment. Will be ceasing our pet and health insurance with Medibank and recommending friends go elsewhere. Buyer beware.1 comment

Zero value or benefit
I have spent $80+ per month for 11 years for my gorgeous doggo. That's over $10,500 in insurance over the years and have received $140 back in claims. Total.
It is a total scam, and a waste of money. I should have put my money aside each month and self insured in case something happened.
I will be cancelling now, as she is at the age where she won't cope with treatments and surgeries should a big event occur, and I have zero faith that any claim in that circumstance will be paid since none have been paid in the past decade. Wish I bailed on this cover years ago.
The claim process is tedious and they send updates via mail instead of through the dashboard.
it's all just crap.

$10,500 vs $140 returned in claims. You'd be hard-pressed to find ANYONE who sees any value in that. I'm sure you think it's fantastic!

Total Rip Off
Almost ten years ago I insured my beautiful 6 month old Bull Mastiff with Medibank Pet Insurance under the top Gold Paws Cover. I am not sure, although from memory I think the Premium was about $43.00 per month with the 80% Claim Reimbursement. With annual increases, as at June this year the Premium had risen to $164.23 per month!! During those years I paid thousands of dollars. I naturally made claims, each had to be accompanied by the mandatory Full Vet History and when submitted, 95% of those claims were rejected. In total, over the life of...Read more
the Policy I received back just over a thousand dollars. For a few years during spring my baby suffered a grass allergy resulting in a rash on her feet and a hacking cough and each time required an injection and a course of Antihistamines. The claim/s were rejected on the basis it was KENNEL COUGH and MPI would not budge from their professional diagnosis even though the Vet clearly stated it was a grass allergy. I notified Win (male) 11th. October 2022 my baby had been put to sleep earlier that day and to cancel my Policy which he indicated would now automatically expire on October 29th. On October 31st. (20 days after cancelling) I received an email from MPI informing me the next instalment had been taken from my account but would be returned to my bank account within the next 10 business days! If they cant rip you off one way they obviously have back up plans to get as much as they can, for as long as they can and stuff the innocent victims. I have many friends and on our walks met numerous people who had dogs equivalent in size and weight to my girl, all were with other Pet Insurers and all enjoyed refunds without question or rejection and were shocked at the way MPI treated, correction, should say mistreated, their clients. I loved my dog, she was my best friend, I had no hesitation in going without to give to her which was every day she was alive. She was unquestionably one of the best things I was ever blessed with and Medibank Pet Insurance was one of the worse. I do not want a reply, acknowledgement, explanation or*we are sorry to hear of your experience * in response to this review from Medibank Pet Insurance, you had every opportunity to demonstrate the value of your Policy Holders while I was a member. My specific reason for this review is to warn others before they make the same mistake I did. Thank goodness I am now free of you.1 comment

I would never do it again. Waste of money
When I fist applied I had full cover on cruciate ligament. They change the policy with out telling me three years in and I didn't read it as I thought it was the same. The operation cost me $4300 and I got $2700 back but it took months and it was hard. Not one phone call. service is horrible. I have not claimed anything else as the way the break up the fees when you do to the vet it doesn't allow for it. Do not use Medibank. Next time I will put money away each month.

How things change...
Two years ago when my dog got very sick Medibank Pet Insurance came through for me and I left a very positive review for them on this site. That was then and this is now....
A few days ago I received her insurance renewal certificate and I'm afraid I'm not a happy camper. My girl is now 8 years old and being a Jack Russell she could live to be around 16 years of age. I'm hoping for that and more of course because I love her very, very much. Unfortunately though (like most businesses) Medibank Pet Insurance doesn't accept love as a payment ...Read more
method. They want cash of course, and lots of it according to the renewal certificate I've just received! They've upped my fortnightly premium by 40% taking it to $47.29. That's almost $100 a month for insurance that has a claim reimbursement of only 80%. Of course I know costs increase, I don't live under the sink in a shoe box, however a 40% increase is utterly ludicrous when you put it into perspective: If Medibank Pet Insurance intends to increase my premium by 40% every year, and I'll bet they do, then by the time my girl reaches 16 years of age the premiums will be both astronomical and unaffordable. In fact it's fair to say that at this rate they'll probably surpass my own private health insurance costs. Health insurance for a pet costing more than health insurance for a human is almost too ridiculous a thing to contemplate isn't it? And yet here we are.... What really irks me is that they know a 40% increase is exorbitant and that the knee-jerk reaction from a lot of people will be that they'll want to cancel their policy. That's why they offer an 'alternative cover option' with a reduced premium and of course, a lower reimbursement amount. I'm afraid I can't see any point in doing that though, so now I have until the 16th of November to decide whether or not to renew her policy. I guess I'll be doing a lot of soul searching between now and then. Yes, when I've needed them they've been reliable, however their latest money grab has taken the shine off that. I'm really disappointed with Medibank Pet Insurance for putting me in this awful position.2 comments

Absolutely shocked at 40% increase
While I understand that there will be a premium increase as my dog ages, he turned 11 in September, I have been astounded by an increase that is just over 40%.This also happened without any prior notification being received, apparently an email was sent but didn't arrive at my end, so now that the first monthly installment has been debited I am now locked in for a further 12 months.Be aware, I knew that there would be an increase, but 40% is hard to take, I feel that this is done because they know that you can't change insurers with an aged animal. Not happy, I would definitely not use Medibank Pet Insurance again.

Very disappointed
I have both two dogs with the medibank pet insurance for 10 years, the claim was reasonable. The first dog past away in Feb and they refunded me the remaining monthly fee from the day he past away. My second dog past away on the 4th Sep. I contacted them on the 24th Sep and try to terminate his insurance. I thought the termination date is the date he past away, However, they said they can terminate the insurance from the 18th because that's my payment date. Even I can send them the proof from vet. They just rejected to consider that. Means I am paying for the insurance with a past away dog. Very disappointed of what just experienced. I have rescue a dog last month but I may not choose medibank anymore.

Update: new condition and excellent service
We have had Medibank pet insurance since we bought our rescue dog home 5 1/2 years ago and I have written a previous review in relation to claiming for care around a significant leg deformity. In April this year our dog was diagnosed with EPI (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency syndrome) a digestive disorder requiring life long medication (oral and injectable) and frequent monitoring. Medications to manage both his leg deformity and new metabolic disorder now total $ 250 per month and will be required for the duration of his life. Blood tests ev...Read more
ery 6 weeks at present cost $140. Medibank have continued to be fantastic in relation to communication, ease of claiming etc. Each year I need to spend $400 ($200 for each condition) prior to receiving any rebate but this is clearly articulated when I put claims in - both on the online information provided and the print outs posted. We pay $80 per month which is expected given the age of the dog and the usually yearly price rises and I imagine that there may become a point in the future where cover for emergency care only would be more appropriate and we self fund the rest. Service has been excellent...1 comment

Don't waste your money!!!
The policy was easy to set up and have been with Medibank Pets for a few years now. Every time I put in a claim I usually have to back this up with a phone call because they don't want to pay for anything. Sometimes I have quoted directly from their policy booklet and then they have paid.
They cover the bear minimum. In the last year I have spent $7235 on my dog, including the insurance. I have received back approx $425. It is worth me saving the $1700 per year and using that to pay a third of the costs of the vet bills. I have just put my last lot of claims through and I will be terminating my insurance.
Don't waste your money and go with someone that doesn't query every single claim.

Struggling to get a claim approved
Have had insurance on my 2 cats for a few years and also have my own health insurance with medibank for over 4 years. Very disappointed with their claims department. My cat got very sick with bilateral kidney stones and was in renal failure requiring emergency care and an operation. Claims submitted with all consultation notes from the animal hospital plus her complete treatment records from her regular vet. 2 weeks after claim submitted it was put on hold as they required full vet history. I contacted medibank by phone and said this has alread...Read more
y been uploaded and they said they need to contact the vet themselves and get the vet to email them the same document which I had already uploaded. I didn't really understand but said ok and the vet emailed them the relevant documentation, the same vet history that I had already uploaded. Checking my claim status today and again they have put the claim on hold for the exact same reason after receiving the vet history from the vet. I have just spent over $16000 in saving my cats life and have done everything required to submit a claim but Medibank are clearly stalling and not being helpful at all. With how stressful the month has been already you would think they would at least be honest and treat their customers with respect and integrity. I will make my second phone call tomorrow to try and sort this issue out but I fear it will be the same old tactics again in trying to stall the claim. I would highly recommend not taking Pet insurance with medibank and instead try RSPCA or something else I have many friends that have had emergencies with their pets and other insurance agencies and have not had the same trouble I am currently going through.1 comment

You never quite know how good an insurance policy really is until you have to make a claim. In our case the claims process was easy and user friendly, and the payments prompt, efficient and easy to track on the pet portal. I posted in my claim forms and bills over 7 weeks ago and have heard nothing. No e-mail, no phone call, no letter. I finally was able to get on line to check my claim only to see that it was denied. Avoid this insurance lie the plague
A massive ripoff insurance product. Under its banner, Medibank lures its health insurance customers into its pet insurance that PetSure runs. Petsure makes sure it sets the premium so that it does not pay out more than the premium collected. The premium for one of my dogs went from about $500 when I insured him as 3 month old puppy to about $750 the next year and almost $1,000 the next year. I cancelled the insurance. You are better off putting this kind of money in the bank and paying the vet bills fully with that money. I wish I could rate this product as zero, it deserves no star. Vik

Don't even bother
I have been with medibank pet insurance for almost 7 years. A few weeks ago I had to rush my beloved cat to the emergency vets as it turned out her small intestines spontaneously telescoped and she went in for surgery to have that section of intestines removed. I was on emergency care, because you never know when something like this can suddenly happen. $5500 later, I put in my claims to medibank desperate for the money I had borrowed to be paid off, only to receive a letter, after chasing it up for 3 weeks, that nothing, not a cent would be paid. Even though the entire this is itemized, not a single thing is to be covered because apparently this emergency was not the right kind of emergency. Waste of time and money.

Hi,
For the claim what is the meaning of Pet History . Do you need vet history from the birth. I got my pup when he was 8 weeks old and he didn't have a vet visit prior to that because he was a health puppy. His first vet check up was around 8 weeks old and didn't have any health issues so far. If I make a claim in the future would it be ok to have pet vet history from 8 weeks old.
