Disappointing treatment of a long term member
My dog became very ill before Easter and after consultation had to be euthanised.Ihave had Medibank Pet Insurance for him and his predecesor totalling around 12 years. The pet portal proved unusable for placing my claim so I mailed it After some time I received a letter requesting more documentation including his adoption certificate which I gathered together and emailed. The next day I received an email thanking me and hoping my dog was recovering well. He had been dead for over two weeks! In the nearly 6 years we had him he had two small claim...Read more
s. I would never again take pet insurance. Far better to put money in a bank account each month. After your dog reaches 9 and cant be insured elsewhere the premiums sky rocket.Another trap is excesses. I understand they apply to each ailment each year.

Worst people to deal with!!!!!
Dog ate some poison and needed to throw it up with medication immediately. Apparently not covered for that with full cover protection. $1400 a year for a 9yo dog.yes she may be a big bread but no excuse was given. Just blatantly said no, not covered for that.
What a load!!!!

Disappointed after being a loyal client for 10 years...
A recent trip to the emergency and a rejection of a $150 claim prompted us to review our Bronze Paw cover which over time has become pretty useless as it turns out...
As it turns out, there is no option to upgrade this if your cat is more than 9 years old (ours are 10) even though we've been with Medibank from the start...

Worst insurance product I have ever had
Taking out this insurance was a total waste of time and money and I wouldn't recommend Medibank Pet Insurance to ANY pet owner. I submitted a claim, with all the relevant documentation, only to then be told I had to submit the necessary documentation before they'd process it. I'd already sent the paperwork. I tried to ring them, however apparently they can't take calls because people is working at home (every other company has managed to divert their phones). Instead I had to email and wait 1-2 days to get a response, then email back then w...Read more
ait 1-2 days to get a response and so on. Finally they advise me that I had a $200 excess for a $100 claim (I was pretty sure I'd selected no excess) - go figure??? So I immediately cancelled my policy. Then I noticed that on 28 March they'd taken another policy instalment. I cancelled on 3 April and asked for the outstanding premium amount to be refunded only to be told there was no refund entitlement... I would have thought the premium they took was for the coming month - after all they bill in advance not in arrears - thus I should have had a pro rata refund for the period 3 April to 28 April. I've emailed again... I guess now all I can do is wait... (Personally I think they should have refunded me the whole month given the time they wasted with back and forth emails but that was my problem for choosing such a crap product.) I'm off to talk to RSPCA about their insurance product. One of the clear winners with them is that they have no excess.1 comment

Don’t waste your money!
Terrible value for money! I’ve been paying for this “insurance” (and I use that term very lightly) for years and whenever I submit a claim I never get barely anything back! It’s almost to the point of fraudulent! Highly highly highly recommend not getting this insurance as it’s a COMPLETE waste of money!

Total scam. Dreadful service and ridiculous exclusions
First of all, every time you need to call these people put aside an hour and have a Valium handy. Worst service I’ve ever experienced. But aside from that the policies are basically a rort. Obnoxious amounts charged, ridiculous exclusions and just a nightmare to deal with. I previously had 3 pets covered for 5+ years... so they’ve made a fortune out of me for doing very little apart from raising my blood pressure. Today I cancelled the lot and will also be referring my complaint to the appropriate advisory bodies.

Too hard.
Took my cat to the local vet for a consult because her back hair was matted and clumpy.Vet said no probs and shaved the affected area.Claimed online and uploaded receipts, then got a message to say couldnt process claim until full vet history, consultation notes, pathology reports, radiology etc were submitted. Cat has only been to the vet for desex and abovementioned consultation. All this for 80% of $70? I am elderly and somewhat infirm, dont know when I can get back to the vets.Have been paying pet insurance to Medibank Pet insurance for 3 animals for over 4 years without a claim. Now this. Starting to rethink my options.

Don't bother insuring with Medibank Pets it is the worst!!
I submitted a claim for my 8mth old puppy on the 10th December, it is now 25th January. They first rejected the claim because apparently he had a pre-existing condition that apparently predated his birth?! and I resubmitted the claim, I've been repeatedly asked for vet history and I continually advise that they already been sent the complete history twice, direct from the Vets involved. They are still assessing the claim!!

Don't Touch it!!
I strongly recommend anyone looking for decent pet insurance - look anywhere else. I have attempted to make 2 claims over the past 2 years, neither one expensive, but the amount of hoops they make you jump through to make your claim is discouragement enough. If I do not get my second claim approved which is only for consultations fees I fully intend taking the issue to Pet Insurance Australia and to the Financial Services Ombudsman. Then I plan to withdraw, not just from Medibank Pet Insurance, but also from Medibank Private - where I am a foundation member.

Very expensive policy for what you actually receive ....
I am so disappointed with MBP Pet Insurance. The older my dog becomes the more I have to pay for his policy. Now I am paying more for his policy than I pay for my own Gold Cover MBP Hospital and Extras insurance. They state exclusions if they feel that too many people for claim for this illness. I would be better off putting aside the money in a savings account .... I pay so much for the policy and yet I hardly claim ... I should be rewarded for this but of course I am not. I am now waiting for them to refuse my last claim. Shame shame on MBP pet insurance. Next year I will not be able to afford the premium. I would not recommend MBP pet insurance or any pet insurance that is underwritten by Pet Secure.

I wish to further state that I have Gold Paw Cover not Essentials Cover .... which makes it even more disappointing in this instance.

Straight forward and easy process
Have had the basic essential care policy for two years. After reading the pds and comparing with other insurers, it offered the most coverage for an older cat.
Not long after I insured my cat, he was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism which requires extensive treatment and testing. Each and every claim has been easy and quickly processed. I have been really amazed at how straight forward everything has been.
I am about to go for a more permenant treatment which could cure my cat's illnesx (radioactive Iodine) which should hopefully be covered, but I guess I'll have to see how it goes.

Inconsistent Information from online to contact centre operators
Inconsistent information given by call centre staff.
The pet portal FAQ claims 10 Business days max for claims to be processed. What they fail to mention is then apparently you have another 3-5 business days to reach your bank yet they can’t tell you when it has hit the bank.
Staff need better training to understand their systems instead of giving incorrect information. I am still waiting for a Claim that was submitted mid December 2022
They put the prices up yet the service level decreases

Absolutely disgusted with Medibank Pet Insurance!!!
I encourage people NOT to take out Medibank Pet Insurance.
My 12-year-old dog's premium has suddenly increased by 40% this year to $142.60 per month, yet I claimed only $176 for him last calendar year on vet bills. The year before, I made only one claim of $73.47.
I would understand this ridiculous increase if I made frequent claims for him, but his medical history shows that he is and always has been a very healthy dog. I have made few claims for him over the entire life of this policy.
As he is 12 years old, I have no option now but to remain...Read more

Is this a joke??
You have increased my premium by $500 this year!! Surely this is a joke!! How can you justify charging me $1750 premium per year for my dog. That’s more than my own personal health insurance.
Shame on you Medibank. I understand premiums go up but this is absolutely disgusting. Definitely a strategy to kick older dogs out of your company.
Don’t bother responding with your generic message about sending me a private message, I’m not interested, I won’t answer, and I’ve already sent an email to cancel my policy.
For anyone out there reading these reviews because they are considering joining this company I implore you not to. It is simply not worth the hassle and expense in dealing with them. Trust me, I’ve dealt with them for years.

Terrible company-worst customer service Ive ever received
For two years I have been trying to register for their online portal. What a dud service!
I spent months of backwards and forwards communication regarding a claim on my cat for bladder surgery. Three times that sent correspondence asking for the same documents! After spending hours of my life on the phone, photocopying and having to verify the truth, my claim was rejected anyway on a so-called pre-existing condition! Why did not they say this in the first place and I would not have wasted my time and energy. Its a dud service and I am better off putting the $1000 a year aside instead of dealing with such incompetents. Ive cancelled my policies.

Hi,
For the claim what is the meaning of Pet History . Do you need vet history from the birth. I got my pup when he was 8 weeks old and he didn't have a vet visit prior to that because he was a health puppy. His first vet check up was around 8 weeks old and didn't have any health issues so far. If I make a claim in the future would it be ok to have pet vet history from 8 weeks old.
