The obvious difference is the physical size with the plus being a bit taller. There is also an output increase in the "Plus" and therefore it is possible to affect a larger m2 area. I suggest pulling up both on the rennai.com.au site. They are both listed in the "Portable Gas Heater" section. Pull up the specs for each and look at them side by side. Depending on the area you want to heat (don't over demand and set yourself up for disappointment), you really cannot go wrong with the Rennai Avenger Gas Heaters.

I am hoping the Rinnai rep picks up on this and asks you for more detailed info. I do not like to give out guidance when their could be a serious/dangerous fault involved. The red LED might be its normal operating light that goes from green to red when it is fully running. The smoke smell is the one that concerns me most. Sometimes you might get a slight hint of a smell that usually indicates lack of ventilation as it is an unflued heater. If its more a burn/electrical smell then it might time to get a pro to physically take a look.

My Avenger child safety goes on and off by pressing the up and down temp controls at the same time for 3 seconds.

That code usually means a supply issue. I had to have my house external gas connectors replaced due to wasps filling them (x2) with mud. As a side note I would suggest covering the nozzles in the off season if nothing is connected to them. Also it works best for me when the gas supply valve is fully open.

Sorry for the delayed reply as I do not check my email as often as I should. I was also hoping Rinnai would step up and they did. One thing I did notice is their site covers mostly their top models which makes sense. I believe the Avenger plus is their top of the line for "portables" and the recommended heating area is on their site. For other later models not covered on the Rinnai site, try sites such as Bing Lee and Goodguys as they are still listing some specs for the smaller Avengers and other Rinnai heaters. I could be mistaken but I do believe the regular Avengers has an electronic thermostatic control as well.

When you tested it on the lower setting was there a noticeable reduction in gas usage?

G’day Katrina. Ours had a fairly strong odor the first night, less so the second and hasn’t worked since. I guess that is the point of my rant. The heater is still with the technician who doesn’t know what is wrong with it and he can’t get hold of the bloke who can approve replacement. Sorry I can’t be any more help. G’day Renee. I’m sorry mate, I don’t think I can help much. I have only used the heater twice before it died. I am still waiting for it to be fixed and sent home. About all I did for the smell though was to open a window slightly for ventilation. Hope that helps mate. Good luck.
