Enjoying our new Rinnai Inverter Split System Air Conditioner
Lat split system we had was a Daikin but this was more affordable and modern. The size of the system was as required by the size of room, which is a loungeroom. We run it quite warm - at 26.0 degrees as I dont like to feel chilly although hubbie likes it arctic! He accepts that 26 degrees will keep the room nice and cool even in those 47 degree days in January, we lived in the lounge-room as its the only air-conditioned room. The Rinnai is quiet, one click on and off and I was super surprised to see our electricity bill for the summer 3 mo...Read more
nths period was only up $150! Because it seems cheap to run, we tend to put it on as soon as we feel a little warm, but just stick to 26 degrees. If its actually cooler outside, then you just get fresh air, which is great because the room can get airless. Do your research of course, but we love this. On the downside we were not happy when Octopuss, their installer, cancelled stating illness on the day of our install. That meant we had to go to the back of the queue and wait over 3 weeks with no definite install date! I cancelled the install and we organised through McDonnell who were cheaper and whilst we still had to wait at least 2 weeks, its the principal right?

Do not buy!
I went ahead with rinnai because of the built in WIFI and the attractive price point. Bought it from Good Guys Narre Warren. However, immediately after installation the indoor unit started making a loud noise as soon as it was turned on. And its loud enough that there is basically no point in using the unit at all. The installation guy washed his hands off saying its not his problem and I need to contact Good Guys. And the good guys washed their hands off by saying I need to get in touch with Rinnai!
Now I purchased the units in Feb 2022. We ar...Read more

AC Freedom is garbage why doesn't Rinnai use WPS? WPS has been around for over a decade, I can buy an ESP8266 chip for around four bucks online, where code snippets are available online for http, mqtt and WPS! Why does AC Freedom need access to storage and telephone?
The app wants to scan an activation QR code, but there is no information available of where to get one of these codes.
If you could provide the technical details I'll write an alternative app that's orders of magnitude better.

I found the QR code in the online PDF manual. But you can also type in 'RINNAI' (or was it lowercase 'rinnai'). Eitherway, I think all the QR code does is gets the Rinnai specific graphic and help file. Nothing special.
The app needs to provision the Broadlink smart wifi device that is in the aircon. I think the Android version of the app just doesn't complete that provisioning properly. An iPhone will, and once provisioned any android can talk to the aircon.
From what research I've already done, the Broadlink wifi smart device uses QUIC UDP protocol. There are resources online where it explains how to create messages to communicate with it across the network. There are python scripts, too. I haven't tried any of them to confirm their accuracy.
