Very happy customer
My wife and I are very happy with our new home. From customer service to the project manager Nathan, communication was great. Any queries or questions were answered promptly and acted on immediately. The workmanship and build quality was great with no issues at all. The build came in under the 22 week build time whilst not compensating the quality of the finished product. Overall the experience has been stress free and not had to worry about a thing.

Very happy overall!
We are very happy overall with the quality of our brand new house. A few things took a bit longer than we had hoped early on prior to construction because of poor communication but it all got sorted and we have a house we are proud to call home. Customer service were always very eager to keep in touch and make sure we didnt have any questions. Our build supervisor was a pleasure to deal with. Communication between individual trades and Rivergum in general might be something to work on - the more individual trades know about progress on a build the better they can plan their time.

Exceeded all expectations
Workmanship and quality of the build outstanding, So well managed we were informed every step of the way on all fronts. The customer service was exceptional, we made a bad decision with the colour of our grout and the tiler had the decency to let us know so we could change it. We would highly recommend this company to anyone. We have built many homes and never had such good service and helpful advice.

AVOID! - Significant delays, low quality building materials, poor workmanship and no follow-up on wa
The build of our unit in a complex of 13 townhouses was 3+ months late - at least one of the units is still not completed which represents an over run of 6 months. The quality and standard of workmanship was generally not good. During the initial inspection Rivergum's site manager was uncomfortable as he knew there were a number of problems and that the property should not have been shown. He also indicated do not expect quality from a volume build - and he was right. After 3 months there are many defects including carpet nails in all of the...Read more
carpeted areas that are protruding - essentially the carpet is too thin - the carpet in all 3 bedrooms as well as the hallway have also buckled (FYI - 3 of our neighbours are experiencing both of these problems); pavers in the backyard are cracked; most bedroom window sills and door frames have cracks as well as the skirting in the downstairs area; one of the toilets in the upstairs area was not plumbed; shower door does not close properly; door handles are either crooked or fall off; finish around the bottom of all of the sills along the exterior has not been completed; key to the letter box has not been provided; no land line, doors rattle, etc. We had to accept the unit prior to being able to test the stove and hot water system as the gas was not turned on. There is a disconnect between the lot numbers and the unit numbers it took 1 of our neighbours 3 weeks to have the gas meter installed and turned on. In terms of the community areas, fences are significantly damaged; two fences do not align so Rivergum hung a piece of colorbond between them to address the gap; despite the drawings in the brochure, the landscaping in the visitors area is virtual - unless weeds count; the lights along the driveway are temperamental - sometimes they work but more often they do not. The water meters were meant to be installed in December but apparently Rivergum is having difficulty getting a plumber to do this work. These issues have been raised with Rivergum with no action taken - the site manager is not returning any of our phone calls. Where is Bob the Builder when you need him? May 3rd 2018 Update: AVOID! - Part 2 - Significant delays, low quality building materials, poor workmanship and no follow This is a follow-up to my 12th of January 2017 post (ieatwords.com/r/rivergum-homes/1637093.html) which had the same title. On the 15th of January Rivergum responded and indicated "Our Supervisor will contact you to arrange to resolve your problems as a priority." I think Rivergum and I do not share the same definition of the words "resolve" and "priority". Nearly 3 weeks later I received an email from Rivergum notifying me that they had (finally) assigned a maintenance contractor to address the defects that were under warranty. In the email they also made the hollow promise: "I can assure you that once [name removed] (the maintenance contractor) has been given access to the property he will work in an efficient manner. Again, Rivergum and I have different views on the phrase "efficient manner". Our tenant has been incredibly obliging in granting ready access to the town house - yet, to-date most of the warranty items mentioned in my original review have either not been addressed or addressed in a manner that has not resolved the defect. In fact, several of [name removed]'s repairs had to be re-repaired and numerous new issues have arisen. As Rivergum failed to contact several of their sub-contractors who have an obligation to correct problems/faults, we had to undertake this task in order to minimise the impact to our tenants. The other owners of town houses within the complex are having an identical experience. Rivergum has refused to address any and all problems relating to community/common areas and landscaping. I received an email from the Development Manager who had been running this project internally for Rivergum informing us that "Rivergum Homes has a contract solely with Corporate Finance Group ... As per our contract with the developer, our works are specifically limited to the dwellings and not the community/common areas." This delineation of responsibility was never brought to our attention through-out the entire purchasing, build and hand-over processes. The advertising brochure was on Rivergum letter head, our "Expression of Interest and Particulars to Prepare Contract" document was on Rivergum letter head, our deposit was paid into a Rivergum bank account, the cover of our "Contract of Sale" was on Rivergum letter head .... Unfortunately, similar to the performance of Rivergum, Corporate Finance Group are also ignoring the complaints of the property owners. 5 months on the situation has actually deteriorated and we are still without "essential services" such as Internet. Both Rivergum and Corporate Finance Group continue to refuse to answer one simple question - "when will all the repair work be completed?" As such, out of frustration, I have contacted the SA Office of Consumer and Business Affairs on behalf of the owners group.1 comment

Smooth, professional service
Having built before both my partner and I were expecting a long wait and delay after delay. But that was not our experience with Rivergum homes. From the initial consultation we were well looked after. Nathan our building supervisor was fantastic. Really professional and helpful, taking the time to answer our questions to keep things moving. He really went the extra mile for us and got our new “forever home” built in 16 1/2 weeks which obliterated our last builders. We would gladly recommend Rivergum homes to anyone searching for that right builder for their next home.

Exceeded all expectations
The workmanship and quality of the build far exceeded our expectations. Our salesman, Paul Marr, was friendly and very helpful and no request was to difficult or too much bother. Thanks to them we have everything that we wanted and more and it looks fantastic. Our site manager, Nathan Willmott, bought the whole thing together with skill and in amazing time. He kept us informed of the progress and was always willing to explain what was happening and when things would be done. He was friendly, responded to our questions promptly and was always willing to meet with us if we requested it. Rivergum Homes build great quality looking homes. They are most affordable, value for money, stylish, modern and practical. The process from beginning to end was reasonably streamlined and stress free.

at make a home look nice and practical. Reflecting back on the whole process, it was close to being perfect. A few errors occurred in the final stages and could’ve easily been eliminated if staff had checked, double check, triple checked their papers, orders, consult with customer and sales consultant. Communication was key here. I understand we’re all human and people make mistakes and that’s okay, but mistakes could’ve easily been avoided if there was more consultation and communication internally and externally with all involved. The consequence of these mistakes not only has a cost to the organisation but to the customer. I’m not entirely sure where it went wrong but I think someone in the selections department hadn’t ensured that all items were ordered and organised. Items such as gas cooktop as opposed to electric and roller blinds. If these things were organised and installed, both customer and Rivergum would’ve had a successful handover. Everybody wins. But this wasn’t the case. I trust that this matter has been internally resolved. But in the end, we received our keys before Christmas and we’re very pleased with the house. Please don’t read this as a complaint or as though the customer is having a gripe. Rivergum are a huge organisation with an outstanding reputation and I’m simply highlighting this to ensure that it doesn’t happen to your existing and future clients.1 comment

Great Customer service and the ability to meet timelines
From the inital conversation and quotation of the build Rivergum home were always highly professsional in their conduct. I was kept updated the whole time during the build and various approval stages.
In addition, my build contract consisted of a 20 week build guarantee whereas Rivergum handed me the keys to the finished product in 12 which is a true example of great customer experience.

d we had no hesitation in signing the contract. Our selections day at the Pavilion Design Studio was totally enjoyable. Jessica made us feel so welcome and she went above and beyond to ensure our selections were consistent with contemporary housing trends and she got it right. Without her guidance we’d be writing this looking at outdated yellowish wall colours – thanks Jessica. The good vibe continued throughout the construction stage. We had two site supervisors, Justin and Jason, both very helpful and clearly on top of the build process despite having many sites to manage. The honesty and quality control was outstanding. Our stone bench top was replaced during the build due to a defect which we didn’t notice. This could have easily been passed by us and the fact it was replaced is testimony to the Rivergum philosophy of quality. The Customer Care team have, and continue to be, brilliant. Many thanks to Ann and Kathy for always being available, always welcoming and always able to assist in a timely fashion. Perhaps the most telling thing throughout the whole process is that we never felt just like clients, we felt like we were part of the Rivergum Family and even though we’ve moved in now, we still feel part of that Family. Finished up with a great home!
We have now built two homes with Rivergum Homes.
Both homes were a custom design.
Yes, there were challenges along the way which we expected, but the response to issues being finalised has been very good and Nathan our supervisor on the last house certainly has gone out of his way to assist and ensure that we have walked away satisfied with their product. So much so that our daughter and her husband are about to sign up for a two storey home to be built with RGH.

o a few floor plans until I was happy with one that suited my budget and needs. Then we made alterations until it was the best possible for me. He helped me to work out how to site it on my block. He gave me great advice and pushed things along in a fair manner so I could achieve my goal of being in my house this year. The team in The Pavilion did a great job with External and Internal Selections. They respected my right to spend extra on things that were important to me, but did not pressure me to choose more expensive options when I was happy with the standard item. I am very happy with my choices and grateful for their guidance. Once Alison Shepherd became my Customer Service Officer, everything began to work well! She showed a style of customer service that is rare! She was honest and attentive to my concerns and communicated superbly the possible solutions. She obtained answers from my site supervisor as soon as possible and kept me informed. She was always well mannered and always spoke pleasantly to me. She was a real sweetie! But most of all, she got things done! My site supervisor, Justin Rowe, is a doer! The construction started on time and moved fast. When I drove to my block to check progress, it was always going ahead beautifully! At one point I noticed that something I paid for as an extra had been overlooked. Justin got onto it promptly and it was done. When I attended for the walk through it was Justin who pointed out the items that needed finishing. He was fussier than me about the final product being of a high standard. When I had a big concern, he answered me with mildness and good reasoning. He delivered my house in excellent condition, ready for me to move in and earlier than stated on the contract!! I am extremely happy with my house and so grateful for Rivergum for providing a wonderful small home for me. I am grateful that Rivergum offers houses that are affordable. Many companies I have contacted show disinterest and disdain for customers who are building smaller homes. My experience with Rivergum was different-all staff treated me with respect and compassion! Apalling
We moved in over a year ago - still waiting on maintenance- water damage to walls, windows, gyprock, skirting boards! No gap filler in windows, skirts, staircase ... list just goes on. Worst interior paint job with watered down paint! We have had 2 maintenance guys come, apalled by quality and never come back! Trying again today with a new maintenance fellow. I'm a painful customer but this house looks great and Nathan (site supervisor) really went out of his way to accommodate me. Chanel (our customer service rep) really kept me in the loop with everything that was going on and always either answered my calls straight away or called back promptly. Our custom dream home

derstood exactly what we were after, he gave excellent ideas and suggestions and he diligently answered all our questions. No idea or question was too hard for him and he helped us achieved a plan we absolutely love. Completely custom designed and perfect for our family. From there we went through the selections process. Again we had very clear ideas of what we wanted, something very classic and unique to many other homes. Alana was incredible. She understood the style and vision for the home and guided us in the right direction to get the exact finish we were hoping for. I was expecting to be talked out of some of my bold ideas but Alana embraced them and assisted us to make these ideas work effectively in our home. Once again we found no request or question was too hard for her to handle and answer. We then began our "relationship" with our customer care coordinator Chanel and Richard our compliance coordinator. It felt as though we formed a friendship with them as we spoke on the phone regularly. When we would have questions or want an update on the progress of the build we were always met with thorough assistance, respect and care. This in between stage of the build felt frustrating as you don't see anything happening on site and we would worry nothing was being done. But once the construction of our home commenced it became very clear that this time was used very well and wisely, planning our home and making sure everything was organised and ready to go to make construction a smooth and pain free process. We then met Nathan. An absolute legend and site supervising hustler. Momentum never stopped at our home, something was always being done and achieved. Any questions we had, and there were a lot, were answered quickly by Nathan or Chanel who seem to work very well as a team. During our build, we hired a private building inspector to double check everything had been done to the correct standard, offering us peace of mind. He could not fault our build quality. The very few minor things he found were rectified within the week and checked by Nathan. We are extremely thankful to Nathan for managing this build so well and getting us into our home within 5.5months.1 comment

Pros and Cons, but overall a positive experience
After terminating a contract with another SA builder, we were desperate to get our home built as quickly as possible, and as honestly as possible. Rivergum provided not the cheapest price but gave us the most honest and open quote along with sales support that made us feel like our home was important. Nathan was down to earth, professional, and empathetic to the issues that had occurred before his appointment, and was focussed on delivering us a home we loved. Like most will attest when building a home, our experience was somewhat of a rollercoaster. Rivergum provided many positive experiences throughout the process, but there were also some opportunities for improvement worth mentioning: What We Liked: - Sales consultant was professional, helpful, approachable - Quote was itemised with additional items, so you knew how much the extra would cost, and also knew how much it would be if it were deleted. This seems minor, but many builders don't disclose the costs of extras, and hold back on the credits if you decide to delete them. - Build Time Guarantee - we were provided 16 week build guarantee (now 18-20 weeks), not many builders give you this commitment, and others will suggest between 26-32 weeks. - Customer Service - all customer service officers were professional and helpful. They followed up things they said they would, and emailed or called to update you. - Nathan our supervisor. Finished the job the way he said he would, was open and honest and a knowledgeable professional. - Selections Centre - A great asset to the company, open on weekends and gives you a good way to start thinking about selections before you need to make the final decisions.1 comment

Overall we had a good experience with Rivergum. As they are one of the larger builders you get the luxury of a very organised process from start to finish with someone always there to take your call. Considering the price we were happy with the build quality, and extremely quick build time (around 14 weeks).

The build quality was excellent and I had very little to ask to be fixed. The build was managed in a fantastic manner. Joe is the best supervisor I have worked with & made life easy for us. Customer service was mostly good with a couple of issues.

That new home feeling!!
Everything went very smoothly through the process of the construction of my new home. Ebony vine was extremely helpful and accommodating informing me with relevant information and answering all my questions. Joe Dunbar was fantastic throughout the home inspection and handover making it very easy and smooth. During the handover everything was fixed that I had marked and I was extremely happy with the finished house.

Good experience throughout the process of the sale and building . The company has been very attentive and and met our expectations with plenty of support right from the start and demonstrated good flexibility with respect to accommodating our requests for variations. The quality of the building appears to be to a good to high standard, minor faults were quickly rectified. I would build with Rivergum again.

What is insulation like on your homes? I.e., how quickly do they heat up in summer and cool down in winter? Are your homes designed with the environment and electricity bills in mind?

Hi ABG, I would stay clear of any of the modern and stylish cladding materials, they add almost nothing to the insulation. We have fibre cement cladding upstairs in our new home, with upgraded insulation and windows (double-glazing to the bedrooms). To feel comfortable, we require more heating and cooling at night and during the day, as compared to our previous place which was a double-storey with Hebel material all around.

Hi,
We built at turn-key investment property town house in 2012. In 2015, the hot water service went & wasn't claimable under warranty or insurance. The brand was DUX. The plumber suggested it was an inferior product & that he has replaced many of this brand. We had to pay for a full replacement of a new unit (we did not re-install a DUX system).
2019, our ducted reverse system airconditioner has now gone, again, out of warranty & not claimable on insurance. The air cond tech made comment that the Prelude brand installed was not a known brand & they are unable to get parts. For a 7 year old home, we are not impressed. Can you please advise the best person I can make contact with to discuss.

We moved in on May 13. The issue with the hot water service was the plumber failing to tighten the 2 connecting nuts. We haven't installed an air conditioner so I am sorry that I am unable to help, particularly if it is past warranty.
