Having had GREAT support from 1Cover on a trip through Thailand a couple of years ago, they arew my first port of call when looking for Travel Insurance. Thankfully I didn't need any help this trip, but I know that bthere is a PERSON oan the phone if I need assistance. Highly recommended

After purchasing insurance they posted a update stating that "regardless of when you purchased your policy and the destination" it is "unlikely that any claim will be covered if it relates to the Coronavirus".

Updated - I have now received a credit note. Faith restored somewhat.
Paid over $600 for policy with cruise cover many, many months before covid -19 started. Pandemic is excluded in one sentence in many pages of print (and who'd have thought?) Tried to cancel more than a month out and was denied. Contacted the company via social media and was given a credit note for future rebooking of my policy. Refund would have been better but I appreciate the assistance.

Regretting our choice of Travel Insurer
The reason we purchase travel insurance every time we go overseas is for the most part to cover any medical expenses overseas, and secondly to cover unforeseen cancellations or travel hiccups. “If you can’t afford travel insurance you can’t afford to travel” has always been our motto. ere would be NO COVER for any cancellation as a result of the virus (either government enforced travel bans or if we contracted the virus prior and could not travel), and NO MEDICAL COVER if we contracted the virus while overseas. Their website has now been further updated to reflect exactly that statement. I understand that they would not cover something that is already known at the time of taking out the cover, but considering we purchased our policy months ago, I feel it is very unfair to exclude something that could not be predicted at the time of purchase (Epidemic - as of what date? By the definition of whom? For travel to which countries?). Is that not the purpose of “comprehensive” travel insurance? It also means that by the time we realised we would have no cover from our policy, it would have been useless to take out travel insurance with another provider, so we are stuck with no cover for anything related to COVID-19. Our travel companions are with another insurer who have assured them they will be covered for medical assistance should anything unforeseen occur, due to the purchase of their policy prior to the outbreak being publicised. Unfortunately for us, this is also the insurer we have gone with every other time we have travelled, but because of the “superior” cover offered by 1Cover for cruises we purchased their Comprehensive Cruise plan this time and are regretting it very much. The result is that we are very uncertain what will happen in regards to how we would pay for medical/evacuation expenses (like in the case of the Diamond Princess), and should our travel be cancelled by government orders we are solely reliant on our cruise company to offer some sort of compensation. In all our travels we’ve never had to claim anything so far, so fingers crossed we don’t need to this time. We will never buy 1Cover Travel Insurance again! It is disgusting that they would purposely include wording in their PDS to avoid them having to provide cover for the reason the cover is purchased, and that this company is legally allowed to sell such “cover”.1 comment

Perfect would never consider using anyone else.
We only ever use 1Cover for all our holiday Insurance as we have found them to be excellent, easy to communicate with and the one time we did have a claim they were excellent and the claim was settled very quickly. Absolutely fantastic company.

An insurance policy that won't cover corona virus related events.
I purchased an annual worldwide insurance policy only to find not only have I wasted my money on flights, prepaid accommodation, and other travel related costs but also the $546 I was charged for the insurance policy.
1Cover is refusing to cover events relating to corona virus.
I have taken out their worldwide annual cover for a number of years without a claim. However I will not be taking out any more policies with this company and strongly encourage others to do the same.
They also make many unwanted phone calls in the weeks before the previous policy expires to try to sell a new policy.
Awarding this lot one star is over generous.

No epidemic or pandemic cover.
1cover does not cover for epidemic or pandemic, regardless of when you purchased your insurance and the epidemic or pandemic was announced. This is not an an industry-wide standard, as Sophie from 1Cover misleading claims. It is only a few insurance companies that do this. Most will cover if you took out the policy before the announcement. My annual insurance is now worthless. My fault for not reading their exclusions. Never again 1Cover. You have lost my business into the future and I suspect the business of many many more people.

No cover for corona virus unlike other insurance - has a cut-off date
Was hoping that they might reconsider as the policy was purchased mid last year way before this epidemic in China. Other insurance providers states that they will cover as long as policy was purchased before Jan 23, 2020 or some even Jan 30, 2020. Please read the fine print - not the kind of insurance that will help when needed most in this scenario. Was going to travel to other parts of ASIA with no ‘do not travel’ warning from DFAT yet still no cover for the coronavirus as it is considered an epidemic in China even though not yet a pandemic as per WHO for now. So please be careful when purchasing travel insurance.

Bought Insurance June 2022 for April 2020 trip - not covered for pandemic
No cover when really needed. List of general exclusions is more extensive than others, so do your research and check others - you won't buy from 1Cover 'comprehensive' if you do! Very convenient
This is my second time using 1Cover. I have been fortunate on both occasions to not need to claim. However the policies are good and are very convenient to take out. All done very simply online. My policy details were emailed to me (so are held electronically) and I was sent a reminder towards the end of my trip which also asked if I wanted or needed to extend my cover. It was all helpful and seemless.

Not all is as seems read PDS closely
Read the PDS very carefully not many things they will actually pay on, I thought person items would be covered, no there not.

Didn't have me covered when I needed it.
We have used 1 Cover in the past and never needed to make a claim until now. We were broken into while staying with family in Zambia. All of our cash was stolen during the night, from our room, while my husband, our two young kids and myself slept. When we woke the next morning and made the call, the lady told us "not to worry as we were covered for theft of cash". We spent days chasing up the police report so that we could make the claim when we got home. We even had to pay for the police report. Turns out we weren't covered as the money wasn...Read more

I am also wishing to change my dates booked river cruise and touring for August this year. Qantas has since cancelled out flights and given us a credit which we will use next year. Our river cruise has also given us a credit for next year. I was advised by 1 cover that we cannot get a refund or a credit as we had to do that within 14 days of taking out the cover. I took it out in September, 2022. I always go with 1 cover and have never claimed. All I want is refund or a credit Why won't they discuss it further with me. Hi Marie B. I am in the same position you are in. I am more frustrated that this company will not acknowledge any correspondence whether via phone, email or their message service. As you can read on this site many other travelers like us in the same position. Maybe time to add to the complaints on the afca website like others have been saying to. https://www.afca.org.au/make-a-complaint/complain.
Marie, they are now offering vouchers for 18 months credit or a major portion premium refund, or at least that was my experience after complaining to Dept Of fair trading, i did not claim on the policy as i knew i would have no chance of any refund of premium if i did and it was obvious they were not paying anything in relation to corona virus, i would contact ACCC.
I am waiting to hear from 1cover re my cancelled flight to Europe including a European river cruise.. I have not been notified of any offered vouchers or possible refund. This is frustrating. Surely, there has been time for the company to decide and communicate a policy to address the concerns of its clients. John.

Why aren't 1cover refunding money for a risk that will never happen? After months no phone contact and useless bulk generated email. Other companies ARE returning the full premium and answering phones. Australian Seniors is one. Never when I read the clause about pandemics did I think that this would include stealing the full premium when I would never get off the ground. Good business model for the future guys. Theft and no service. Vote with your feet and tell all your friends how great this company is. Why cant we ring? Don't give us the rescuing people story any longer!

Asked the same question myself three weeks ago - no risk to the company because we can't even leave the house for a trip to a country whose borders are closed anyway. But have heard nothing other than I'm in a queue and they will contact me in turn. Very poor customer service.
