Marion, be very wary about using Allianz for your insurance. They hate to pay out on genuine claims. They will try every excuse they can come up with not to pay out.

What is alliance stance on claims against comprehensive travel insurance plan by travellers whose flights to bali from january 13-20 are cancelled due to tiger air problem with Indonesian govt. ? Tiger is giving refund on tickets but what about the pre booked hotel accommodation? I have read the fine print and as far as i understand it does not have clause to reject such claim so it should be covered. Has anyone launched claim for cancellation charges with alliance for pre booked accommodation?

Hi - it's best to contact the Commonwealth Bank regarding this as they are the one issuing the card, whilst we underwrite the travel insurance. It does say here on their website https://www.commbank.com.au/personal/insurance/travel-insurance/travel-insurance-included.html that your spouse or partner and up to 10 dependent children are covered. I totally agree!
I actually wish that product review would either 1) only allow you to review IF you make a claim or 2) have two separate review sections, one for general and then one for claim reviews. It's useless to review something you haven't actually USED. You have insurance, but you only USE it if you claim. So I find myself scrolling and scrolling until I get to read a review where someone has actually claimed.

Hi Allianz,
I have insurance with my Bankwest Credit card but am unclear on how much of the trip I need to put on the Platinum bank west card to be covered? The booklet indicates $500.00 as a minimum. My trip is around $10,000 but the travel agent charges a credit card fee of 1.5%( 150.00) so If I don't need to pay for it all on the credit card that would be helpful - but obviously I still want to be covered and I will certainly be using my platinum card on the trip.

It seems like a false economy to have a Platinum card with free insurance and then get hit for $150.00 credit card fee ( about as much as travel insurance).

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks/Regards,

Sue

Hi Carolina, thanks for your question. It's hard for me to comment on whether the insurance you buy in Portugal (eg. travel insurance) from a place like https://www.allianz-assistance.pt/ would cover you here - you would have to ask them. However, we do have 'Overseas Visitors Health Cover' for 651 visitor visas to Australia which might be what you're after. Anyway, have a look at http://ovhcallianzassistance.com.au/our-health-insurance/other-eligible-visa-types/ to see if this would meet your needs. Regards, Anthony

We are trying to select suitable travel insurance coverage for a trip to the USA from late October to early December this year. We also have a trip planned to New Zealand early next year. My partner has an account with Teachers Mutual Bank and through their website the My Travel Insurance quote (underwritten by Alliance) gives a Plan D Frequent Traveller policy for $737.48 that covers both of us, but the Plan A Comprehensive is $1654.96 and seems to have the same coverage. Why is there so much difference in the price? Under my partner's Teachers Health Fund, their travel insurance policy (also underwritten by Alliance) is $1313.82 for a multi-trip and $1160.30 for comprehensive coverage. Can you explain the difference between all these policies?

Hello, my boyfriend and I are planning a five month trip to South America for later this year. We are deciding between purchasing your policy and one other. To help us with our decision we would like to know the following:

Are we fully covered if we are hijacked and/or mugged (e.g. somebody threatens us and takes our belongings and/or money)?

Are we fully covered if an airline loses and/or damages our luggage?

Are we fully covered if our belongings are stolen from the carry-on luggage storage area of a plane, train or bus?

Are we fully covered for necessary changes to connecting travel and/or accommodation if our flight, train or bus is cancelled or delayed?

Thank you in advance for answering my question. If all goes well we are hoping to purchase your cover, but we must have peace of mind first.

Warmly,
Penelope

Hello Ruby, my mother's funeral was the day our tour was to start. Claim denied as she was 86 and Allianz doesn't pay out over 85. You are saying the PDS states 80 so that's a contradiction to what Allianz told me. This has been my one and only experience with any sort of insurance with Allianz. Never again. My advice is to use another insurance company

Hi - I am an existing Allianz customer, holding a number of car, home policies. I have never claimed so don't know how good/bad the process is. I am now in the market for a "Travel Insurance" policy and started looking at Allianz. But I must admit I am very disheartened by the large number of VERY negative reviews. Everyone's situation is different but the common theme seems to be that Allianz do not want to pay when legitimate claims occur. Is this all true or can someone clarify?

Hi AlexB, Best advise is to definitely look for Travel Insurance elsewhere. Allianz have a clause for every situation not to pay you. Really bad company to deal with. Had cars insured with them, got out real quick after an honest claim with them and got the run around for 7 weeks. If you lose your luggage make sure you have proof of purchase for every item or you cannot claim. If you do have proof they will pay on the age of an item allowing for deterioration. Beware.

jetsetter
jetsetter

Hi AlexB, I totally agree with Pauline (see above) and wouldn't recommend Allianz for any insurance. They will give you the run around and hope that you give up on the claim and just go away. What sort of insurance company turns down your claims when you lose your son and your mother only a month apart and you are unable to travel? Allianz will try and use any excuse to deny your claim. Absolutely no compassion at all. You have been warned!!!

What sort of compensation do we get for travel delays due to bali volcano issue ? Do this cover our extra accommodation ?

My claim was lodged on October 1. 2015. Till this day, I don't know what are they going to compensate me for. I missed my flight with AirAsia as per a doctor orders. My partner also missed her flight. AirAsia has a very simple published policy (NO REFUND WHATSOEVER) but Allianz want a written confirmation from AirAsia and AirAsia id not cooperative. Every time I hear from Allianz, it is a new case manager (5 so far) and each one of them does his/her best to stall the processing of the claim. They also ask for information and documents in bits-and-pieces. My claim is 100% legitimate and is supported by all the necessary documents to make it a smooth case... But, so far I don't even know what is the status of the claim (accepted or rejected). I know that they will only pay for the return part of the 2-way ticket with AirAsia OR the 1-way return ticket with Virgin Australia (the return ticket with Virgin is as much as the 2-way ticket with AirAsia). It is most likely that they will pay for cheapest of the two and even may decide not to pay for my partner who missed her flight to assure my well-being in a foreign country. As for the accommodations, I don't have a clue... I did everything humanly possible to save them money by moving our my hotel to a much cheaper and low-grade one and I was eating only 1 meal a day. Even this was not appreciated by Allianz. The problem is that you don't have a specific case manager to talk to and when you contact them, you get a response that someone will contact you in 10 days and if you are lucky, you don't get an SMS to say that someone will contact you in 10 after the first 10 days!!!
I can't answer your question because I don'y my head from my tail with Allianz. Sorry.

Today, after a month and a half, I received the letter that I received $276.82 out of the $2000 I lost!!! After sending all the supporting documents (itineraries, bank statements, credit card statements, invoices, just think of any thing... I did send it) many times and even receiving email confirmations that they have been received, my claim was processed on the grounds that such documents where not supplied. Our missed flights and new flight tickets were not covered. The Allianz theory is that we pulled a scam and we did flight back as scheduled on AirAsia but both my partner and me managed to smuggle into Australia through Melbourne International Airport and them I smuggled out of Melbourne back to Bali on an invisible aircraft to extend my stay in Bali for 3 days. Then, I smuggled out of Bali back again to Melbourne without being detected by the immigration department and customs. And, because Allianz case managers are super intelligent and they discovered the scam, they want me to get written confirmations from AirAsia and Virgin Australia that this did not happen. I am not sarcastic at all... I am saying the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Hi I've had Allianz osch for 7 years now (did two did degrees) and never had an issue. In fact I never had a claim rejected, from ultrasounds to emergency dept to specialist services. So now I'm graduating and looking for general health cover for work, I am seriously considering them despite the negative reviews here (honestly I was surprised to find them). I was with Medibank for a few years prior to the 7 years I spent with Allianz and personal I found Allianz was more straight forward with better customer service and less nonsense then Medibank oshc. Hope that helps!
