Dedica EC685BK (Black)

Hello. After preparing an espresso (the one with a double load), I am trying to prepare hot milk. The steam light is on (not blinking). After I turn the handle, a machine gives a weak steam for a few seconds, then stops. So I manage to get steam only after a few attempts (cooling a boiler, running hot water, turning a machine on/off). What may be wrong? Oh, it also helps to get steam, if I turn the handle counter-clockwise till the end and hold it in that position by hand. Is it supposed to work like that?

The steam works when you turn the handle anti clockwise. Try closing it by turning it clockwise until the handle is horizontal. Press the steam light button until it stops blinking and then turn anti clockwise

Just a couple of other thoughts, the grind might be a little to course, or you need to tamper the coffee more. See the manual.

I accidentally put my coffee holder and filter parts in the dishwasher. The holder part with the Black handle has lost its shiny silver and looks dull and Matt now. Is it safe to still use. It appears in tact otherwise. Many thanks

Yep, we did the same thing! And it works just fine. You can polish it with Jiff to get back some of the shine, but we haven’t bothered.

Thank you so much. We were just worried it would be toxic or something now.

When I use the steam option and turn the lever back to 0, the 1&2 shot lights flash for several minutes before they stop, a lot longer then the initial heating up period, is this right or is there another reason?

2 answers

GrillaBBQ

It’s indicating that their is still pressure in the steam unit. If you put a glass/cup under the steam wand and then exhaust the pressure the lights will go out. If you don’t the lights will flash until the steam pressure has exhausted its self.

Is the delonghi ec685 supposed to be noisy? Also is there supposed to be a hole in the bottom of the double shot basket?

1 answer

It's only noisy when you have run out of water, and yes the small hole in the chrome basket allows the coffee to flow into the cup.

Hi, My single shot filter works but double shot stopped working. The water fills up the filter and pressure builds up but no water comes out of the filter cup? If 2 cup filter is clogged how do I clean it?

Hi, the hole in the bottom of the dual wall basket may be clogged with tiny coffee grounds and it stops the water coming through just remove the filter plate from the basket and give everything a good clean and make sure you can see through the hole.
Hope this helps.

After descaling my Dedica, the coffee brews, but as soon as it finishes the milk frother light comes on blinking orange. How do I fix that?

As you know, the orange blinking light means the machine needs to be descaled -

And ... sometimes the yellow light does not go away, so you do this at the end of descaling ...

When my machine turns on the lights flash in sequence then the first two lights flash for several seconds and then all three lights flash constantly. It no longer works and the manual suggests abnormal conditions.

What can I do?

I took mine back as it happened after 2 months and to me was an obvious sign the unit was defective. JB hi-fi agreed and gave me a refund.

You could also try resetting the machine to the default settings. Worked for me once.

If your coffee was't designated as Espresso coffee, it might be too coarse of a grind and water would just run through it.

I don’t know the coffee I purchased says suitable for espresso machine, and I have tried (bought ground coffee); and( beans)as I have a good grinder.
It is like the delonghi dedica is set to 18 seconds and nothing I do can change this setting.
I like this small machine as I am the only person who drinks coffee in the house.
I would appreciate some help

Is it ok to purge water from the boiler outlet without attaching the filter holder? Will this do any damage to the coffee machine?

Cheryl B.DeLonghi

Hey Brian,
If you mean from the group head between coffees this is indeed fine and will help clean the brew head from used coffee. Just be careful of the hot water splashing if the filter holder is not placed.
Thank you

Matt

It doesn't have a boiler, it uses a thermoblock. Purging didn't seem to do anything for me. I was getting so desperate, I tried everything. With thermoblock machines I purge everytime to flush leftover grinds and to preserve the seal. It's useful to do this to regulate temp sometimes on boiler machines, but with a thermoblock not so much.

I just bought a DeLonghi Dedica machine and initially tried the 1-cup filter basket. I wanted to try making 2 cups so I tried changed the filter to the 2-cup one. I found that it was not attaching to the filter holder. It just keeps popping out. Do you have an idea how I can keep the 2-cup filter basket fit to the filter holder?

1 answer
DeLonghi
Cheryl B.DeLonghi

Hi Emily,
There is a little wire clip inside the filter holder that holds the basket in. If this clip is not sitting properly in the filter holder the basket cannot be pushed in enough and it will keep popping out. Make sure the clip is sitting in its place and doesnt fall out as you push the basket in.
Press the basket in from one side to the other until it sits completely flush with the holder and it will stay in.
If the wire clip falls out completely and its not in there this may also be why the basket won't stay in.
Check out this how to video it's about cleaning your machine but you can see the clip I am talking about when they are cleaning the handle.

Hi. I m finding that I can't connect the double cup filter to the machine. It looks like it won't take double measures.which seems odd. When I DO manage to connect it, it only pour from one side?

1 answer
DeLonghi
Cheryl B.DeLonghi

Hi Owen,
It sounds like you just have too much coffee grounds in the filter basket. Try adding a little bit less before tamping to allow the handle to fit into the machine, especially when the machine is new the handles fit nice and tight. If it is pouring from one side only this is a sign that the tamp may not have been even and the coffee dose is too high so the water is sliding to one side when it is trying to push through. Also good to check the grind is not too fine as well. Shout out if you need further help.

When we try to make a double shot the pump runs but nothing comes out of the group head, the water just builds up inside the basket and pops when I remove the group head. Mate, whats going on. Sounds to me that the pump is not powerful enough??

1 answer
DeLonghi
Cheryl B.DeLonghi

Hey Don,
There is a couple of things to check as the pressure is building up for 1 of 3 reasons.
1. The hole in the bottom of the dual wall basket could be clogged. the filter plate in the bottom of the basket is removable to easily clean the hole so the coffee can pass through again.
2. The grind is too fine.
3. There is too much coffee in the handle.
I would start with no1 and check if it works after that if not check the grind make it a little coarser to see if the water can push through.

Slight update to the details. The frothing stops around the tiome the froth gets to the ideal temp, around 67o. The pump stops pumping, pressure drops, frothing stops, third light goes from flashing white to off, the first 2 lights go from off to flashing white. Typically happens just about the time the froth is just right, after about 1.5 minutes.

I am outside Australia, so phoning would be very expensive. It would be brilliant of you could give me some indication of the fix, or direct me to a video.

Thanks,

Michael.
