Unfortunately this machine is full of really bad design. What about getting some thinnish wire and wrapping tightly around the rubber to hold the rubber better on to the metal? Otherwise I think it's a warranty claim.

Hi Jan, Never had this problem on mine (touch wood, or any for that matter), but can only think the insert is the wrong one or it is cracked. I did find this number 1800 126 659, on their Aussie site. I would give them a ring and see what they can do, in your predicament. All the best.

My Delonghi coffee maker EC685 does nothing when I follow the instructions to descale it. How can I get past this?

2 answers

If you search (use google as much as I dislike it) 'delonghi dedica descale' and follow the delonghi how to or 'goat toaster 9' tutorials on YouTube you should be well on your way. I thought the instructions included in the packaging were a bit double dutch initially.
The Oracle has a bit of a fault fixer for the 680 model if there are problems after descale. If no satisfaction after following instructuctions take it back to the shop. I hope this helps.

Thank you, will will look that up. I could follow the instructions that came with the machine but the machine did not react according to the instructions. A tutorial sounds like just the thing!

I just got my delonghi dedica yesterday. It worked well! Got up this morning - the power button won’t stay on. If I hold it on, the machine will work fine but I must hold the power switch on the entire time. Did I buy a dud?

Take it back to where you bought it and ask for a refund on the rubbish product. Yes you bought a dud and they are nearly all duds. If you can find the coffee machine Aldi were selling for $299AUD then it runs rings around the DeLonghi and most other machines costing twice the price.

Yes have been in touch with the store. What a pain!!

Sounds like a simple problem in the switch.
Just take it back, yeah I know it's a pia, and swap it.
I've had mine for a few hundred cups and it runs like a swiss watch.

Dedica

Hi all,

I've used my Delonghi Dedica for years. Everything works and it pumps water well but suddenly has not been able to push water through the portafilter -- even when there's no coffee! A ton of pressure builds up inside the portafilter whether it is empty or whether coffee is inside it, and water runs out of the machine into the portafilter, but I've only gotten it to push one or two drops through the portafilter, and that was without coffee (empty portafilter, just a bunch of water buildup inside). It doesn't seem to be a lack of pressure since removing the portafilter releases a tooon of pressure. Maybe it's just the 'dish' placed inside the portafilter? I descale regularly and just did it again in case; same issue. Thoughts?

Many thanks!

The pinhole in the insert dish is blocked I would think. If there was a pin supplied with the machine you can poke it through the very tiny hole to unblock it. No pin supplied then try a fine needle and you might get the tip through the hole to unblock it. A magnifying glass will help hugely to find the hole. DO NOT enlarge the hole. If all fails you probably need to replace the "dish" but try first some more energetic cleaner like oven cleaner.

Caleb Z.
Caleb Z.

Amazing! It works perfectly now! Thank you!

You are on the money there Peter, about that blockage. The machines actually build up quite a bit if pressure as well. Rather than use metal, wooden toothpick or match sharpened would be preferable so as not to damage the centre hole.

Dedica EC685W (White)

Hey, I just bought a new EC685W,

when I try to set up the machine, as I followed the instructions both in manual and YT, water does not come out from the steam wand. The only thing happened there was sound from the machine and vibration. Then after that, the coffee buttons keep blinking.

I also tried to purge the espresso dripper by pushing the 2 cups mode button as instructed, nothing happened. Again, the buttons keep blinking, then I switch off the power button to make it stop.

Anybody can help? Thanks in return.

Take it back, the pump is defunct, mine died after making 10 cups. Ask for a refund and get a decent machine. If you can still find the Aldi $299 coffee machine then grab it. It runs rings around anything else under $1,000.

Just make sure you are turning the steam switch all the way to the mark, otherwise bugga all happens. My first ever cup was like that and I was worried it was r/s but the machine is quite sturdy. Probably 3 - 400 cups later still going strong !!

Sounds like the machine has developed a fault. It's under warranty, take it back and ask for a refund and buy a good machine. The one Aldi had on sale for $299 is a far far better machine for less money.

My double shot will not work - nothing comes through and when I take it out it pops - like there is build up pressure? I've looked at the basket and it looks ok, ditto the small filter.

That machine is a heap of rubbish, it's broken. Take it back and ask for a refund under consumer law. Go and buy the Aldi $299 Espresso machine which costs less and is equivalent to machines costing $1000+ AND it actually WORKS properly AND makes good coffee!

The basket on the bottom with one small hole in the centre, clogs some times. I clear it with a piece of sharpened toothpick. Don't use metal as it will probably damage the metal hole. Check it by holding it up to a light. This is normally caused by not knocking the used coffee grounds out.
Hope it works for you.

Thanks Macca - I soaked the basket and filter in hot water then cleaned and it's working again. Much appreciated.

Hey guys--read through and seems no one had this issue yet--Suddenly today my machine simply stopped passing water through except in drips. My yellow light had been flashing to descale for a couple of weeks but I didn't do anything about it since my machine is only 3 months old. Today I ran the descaling procedure and light is off but still just drops through the basket. I removed and cleaned the basket, still the same. Any ideas?
