Hi,
I'm in the process of resurfacing my kitchen and intend using a 40mm Silestone Lagoon bench top, single onset/apron fronted Domsjo sink and induction cook top. Can anyone offer any thoughts/reviews on any of those, please? I'll be purchasing from the Tempe store, with installation in Wollongong.
Thank you.

Read the fine print re the stone benchtops CAREFULLY! If your cabinets are not completely level you have NO warranty. That applies to all stone benchtops, not just Ikea - stone is not at all flexible.
We had a single bowl (inset) Domsjo sink for about 11 years, and with our new kitchen have graduated to the big Domsjo twin bowl apron front. The old one is still in perfect condition and will be installed in our outdoor kitchen. I am NOT nice to my things, and have often washed out paint brushes (both water based and oil based paints) in the old Domsjo. I could honestly sneak it into the showroom and you wouldn't know it wasn't new.
Our Hogklassig induction cooktop is still waiting to be installed (range hood is held up) but the old one was WONDERFUL! I would never use anything but induction, and have been cooking our dinners on the little "Tillreda" single burner induction for nearly three months. I am planning to use it as a warming tray in the future.

A HINT for you: use White King toilet cleaner to clean your Domsjo if it gets really messy (paint brushes). Just trickle it all round the top edge and wipe down after 10 or 15 minutes. It's designed for white porcelain! Use a non-scratch abrasive pad from Ikea for cleaning, best sink I have ever had. I had a white Corian sink for a while, it was an unmitigated disaster, stained, scratched and ended up in the tip after five years.

I have had timber oak benches installed. I need to ensure that the benches are water resistant to a degree. Apart from your product you sell (Behandla Tung Oil), what other product is best, as I have read reviews this one doesn't repel water so well? Also, had the oak benches been coated with an oil film prior to delivery to my home, if so, how much sanding to I need to do to ensure the new oil is penetrated in? Thank you

We bought the same ikea oak bench tops and a tin of the behandla oil. It is not really suitable for wet area benches although being linseed oil in a water suspension it is pretty safe ( no volatile solvents) and easy to repair or refinish. We followed the advice of Monaro timbers from whom we bought a plank of American white oak to match the ikea timber (it was a good match). They have done quite a lot of work with ikea bench tops and recommended organoil hard burnishing oil. We have used this and it is very satisfactory. You can get any gloss level from Matt to satin. It is a lot more durable and looks nicer than the behandla product. Good luck!

Behandla is NOT the product you need. They make a beeswax polish that does a much better job.

I have about a dozen cabinet front panels on my inlaws Faktum kitchen, purchased in 2014, that need replacing due to cracking and peeling. I haven't contacted IKEA yet. I believe IKEA advertises a 25 years warranty on their kitchens. Will they replace all kitchen draw and door panels considering that Faktum is obsolete in Australia? Can anyone advise? Thank you

Me too. But why are Faktum door/drawer panels crack and peel after 4 years ? Not just one but nearly all of them. I have lost the receipt of course and was happy to buy new panels but the sizes and hinge positions have changed.
Last time I shop at Ikea...never again !
I am also fed up with the queues at checkout. Worse than Aldi.

Savio Friggione
Savio Friggione

They've refunded the cost of the kitchen (only the cupboards, no installation costs and all others cost related to the installation of a Faktum kitchen measurements and sizes). Will have to think 10 times before going back to IKEA for a kitchen... as it's not as good quality as in Europe (personal experience).

I'd like to know why IKEA refuse to upgrade their planner software to include every IKEA kitchen and laundry product and be tablet friendly.as well as fix all the many bugs this very old software has?
One would think the millions they save on Australian tax cuts they could afford it, and employ more than 1 person in the kitchen department at Northlakes. After all that's what the tax cuts are for aren't they? To employ Australians, yet every IKEA store I have visited in the past 10 years always have cues of people waiting for service at most counters....Not good enough IKEA!

What items are missing from the software? ONE person in the kitchen department at Northlakes? There are four in Canberra, five on weekends, in a much smaller city than Brisbane. There are certainly short queues on weekends in kitchens, I think the longest I've seen is two people ahead of me. Perhaps you need a tablet that runs Google?

The new IKEA kitchens range are not compatible with the previous FAKTUM system. Change occurred here in June 2015 and IKEA said they would supply parts 2 years THEY DO NOTthis is not have drawer fronts/doors (ABSTRAKT WHITE) Staff say they do not stock since the changeover. They only have the hardware for the drawers - no fronts. Spent $17000 on FAKTUM and feel abandoned by IKEA. This problem will get bigger for IKEA as people source parts for the FAKTUM kitchens. Staff said go GOOGLE for a custom made door company - is this good customer service. Over 5 years we have spent in $38,000 in IKEAIKEA over a 5 year period and it comes to over $38000. Finally to add insult, in UK they sell doors/panels/drawer fronts for FAKTUM kitchens via IKEA website not shipping to Australia. NOT HAPPY - Does anybody have a source of these IKEA products as the final stock could not have simply disappeared overnight or are they stockpiling for warranty claims?

We had a similar problem with our Faktum kitchen, but as it was 25 years old and we now have a local store, we decided to do a complete refresh of the kitchen. SO glad we did, Metod is infinitely better! Faktum was great, we have re-used the cabinets and doors as storage in our computer room and as a semi-outdoor terrace kitchen. I guess change happens?

Use one of the many package forwarding services from the UK.

Ultimately, you can not expect Ikea to keep your items in stock forever. The cost of holding that level of stock would drive up their prices for everyone.

Oh, and turn caps lock off. Don't like being shouted at.

Never used CAPS LOCK the Bold lettering was by product review. On the IKEA issue we managed to meet with a good rep of theirs that assisted us in obtaining custom made as well as free replacement of two doors which were faulty. So very pleased with final response from IKEA Perth WA

Thinking of an IKEA kitchen from Canberra store. A few questions:
1) Any first hand experience from Canberra?
2) Any experience with Silestone stone benchtop from IKEA?
3) How long does it take for "out of stock" items to come in and can you still custom order one if it is out of stock?

We just bought a wardrobe from IKEA Canberra. The in-store service and pricing was excellent but the delivery guys are dodgy and the installers never showed up. I am currently in a 48-72 hour queue to "have my issue resolved". I have no idea why they didn't come.

Re silestone, we have it in an investment property and no problems.

I deeply regret buying an IKEA oven for my house. It worked once and then ceased to function. It currently needs a part that has to be delivered with "at least" a 7 day delay. Getting warranty repairs is a nightmare as you have to call IKEA, and cannot go directly to the (Whirlpool) repair agent. IKEA contacts the repairer who also then wants proof of purchase. The oven seems to be a cheap European product.

Sonik

We also bought an oven from Ikea, the model that has the pyrolytic function, and in contrast to the above comment ours works great. Best oven I've used! Since it's been working perfectly since we bought it (including the pyrolitic feature which is a godsend for cleaning) we haven't had to test the warranty so I can't comment on that process.

We have just purchased the 5th kitchen from Ikea !!!. We always assemble and install ourselves. It is the easiest assembly and installation that you can find. People who complain must take time to read instruction, slowly put together the first cabinet.... and the rest is all the same, repetition.. We put Ikea kitchens in our investment properties and the one we just got today, is the addition to our home kitchen (Island bench and stone bench tops all around). Did some shopping around for stone tops and the Ikea is the best in choice, price and installation costs. Others can't even guarantee that their product is stain and acid resistant. How pathetic when you about to spend $5000.
As for assembling... I am 60 yrs old and can put together 6 base and 6 wall cabinets (doors and drawers), plus oven cabinet .... in 6 hours !! If you guys cant use screw driver or can't read instruction, DO NOT TRY TO ASSEMBLE ANYTHING EVER. because there is nothing easier than Ikea product. Maybe try to learn instead of complaining, it will save you thousands of dollars in the future.
The instruction doesn't say that it requires common sense, e.g. do not use a drill for melamine because its a soft material. Get common sense and a bit of patience and focus... you should be OK.

Hi. 10 years ago we were owner builders in Perth. Large house with large kitchen, we spent $5000 on the kitchen units. If I could load a photo here I would. We love our kitchen and finished it with the same cost again with Corian benchtop. It looks a million dollars and every single piece of IKEA has performed for us. Looking at doing another kitchen next year in new owner builder. Seriously considering IKEA again. $20000 savings is a massive amount. But if you have corners and odd areas to build into your kitchen, maybe the standard IKEA kitchen will not be suitable. We made it work, having a carpenter fit it all in for us.

Hi Susie, how did you go with the ikea kitchen? Did you get it installed and how is it working. Most reviews had been bad in regards to the cabinet backings. Did you encounter any problems with that? I have just bought mine and installed. Waiting for custom made laminate benchtop.

Do NOT buy an Ikea stone benchtop. We bought all the cupboards and benchtops last year for our kitchen renovation, and have had a nightmare experience with neither Ikea nor their subcontractor, GMG Stone, wanting to take any responsibility - the warranty is not worth the paper it is written on. Everything had to be paid for upfront so we have no comeback. I have been to Fair Trading and a lawyer, who say I cannot do anything as it is "my word against theirs". Terrible measure and installation issues- three benchtops had to be re-done. Still, the finish is inconsistent across all 4 benchtops and 6 months later, we have scratches and chips caused by general wear and tear - which in my opinion is completely unacceptable. It is not possible to speak to Ikea management and the young "Customer Service" staff have no authority to fix anything. GMG Stone staff were rude and disinterested and will not repair unless I pay.

Isn't that a bathroom basin? We have had a very similar one (can't remember the name) for about twenty years and it has performed beautifully. The porcelain is perfect after all that time, as is our Domsjo sink in the kitchen after ten years. BUT we're replacing it with the Domsjo double, french farmhouse style sink because I've always wanted one. Good luck.

What is the "quality" of the kitchens like ? Prices are so good we are tempted but concerned A. that the quality may not last, and B. disappointed that the colours are so limited, the only kitchen is "white" are the cheap looking plain shiny white kitchen doors. Hi, Tiggy, to be honest forget Ikea, their range is very limited and to be honest the service has gone so far down hill in the past year that it is not worth the trouble. Their products all come from China and other overseas countries, also at times you order everything only to be told sorry this or that will be in stock in a couple of weeks, very frustrating when you are on a time frame. I have just ordered a Kitchen from aa Australian company that assist you every step of the way and the range is WAY larger. They will even manufacture a custom unit to fit that awkward spot that nothing fits. They supply flat pack like Ikea and can also supply ovens, range hoods, sinks - basically everything that Ikea does. The best part is they ar cheeper on some items and I found them to be around $500 cheeper for the whole Kitchen. They are Kitchens U Build. Look them up on the internet and I think you will never go to Ikea again for a Kitchen. Stewart

Hi Stewart
Thank you for that will definately have a look at there web site. Have got quotes from local companies but they were all 4 times for expencive than Ikea. You are correct about the limited range very disappointing, also when spending what we consider a good amount of money you need to be sure you are getting what you want and what will work for you, yet the chap we were talking about just kept telling up to go and think about it as he had to move on to the next customer.

Has anyone bought an Ikea kitchen and their integrated dishwasher and then had steam damage from the dishwasher?
Our kitchen is less than a year old, and both kitchen and dishwasher were installed at the sametime. We have notice the steam damage on either side of the dishwasher, it has cracked the fronts of our draws pretty bad.
Have just had someone from whirpool come out and inspect as ikea told me its their faulty dishwasher as their cabinetry are made to last. (not), so was wondering if anyone other Ikea kitchen buyers out their has had a similar problem?
