Roomba 630

Why does robot keep cleaning same area?

Good Morning Betty
The Roomba 630 does not have a navigation system, so depending on the furniture around this can lead the Roomba to only clean certain areas.

All the lights are rapidly flashing on my new machine. On my previous machines when it goes on to the dock the battery light displayed with a slow pulse to say it was charging but isn’t doing so on the new model. I don’t know if it’s just so flat that it’s doing this or something else? Can someone help me as I feel like I’ve just blown nearly $600

I find that the base is not heavy enough to remain stable or still as the roomba is attempting to dock (on a solid surface), and i end up having to basically pick it up and dock it manually. Is there anyway to correct this?

Personally i don't use the base.
I manually plug the Roomba in which saves the base hassle. In my case i live in a multi-story home so i need to carry it to its new cleaning destination anyway.

If you don't want to do it like this you could stick double-sided tape or high-friction matting under it?

I haven’t had a problem with ‘Harry’ docking at all. I set the docking station up, in each room, right up against a wall. Haven’t read that others have had this problem. I make sure the power cord is not under the docking station which is sometimes on carpet and sometimes on solid timber floors.

Good Morning Diane B
Depending on the floor type if the Home Base is not push up against a wall it is possible it may move around. It may be worth trying a couple of small pieces of blue-tack on the bottom to see if they may hold it in place.

I am not an expert - I just own a Roomba 630, The green light should be on as that indicates your Roomba is fully charged.. I don’t know what model you have but on mine you push this button twice to set it off on its rounds. When the battery is flat this light goes to yellow. I hope this helps.

Nerida B

Nothing happens at all when button pushed. It died overnight the light so seeing if recharging it helps.

I just started my 600 series for the first time. It is not staying in a line it seems to have no pattern. It's just going everywhere. Even in a big square space it doesn't go back and forth like u would with a regular vacuum. What am I doing wrong?

Julie Matthews

You are not doing anything wrong! I have a Roomba 630 and am not sure if all Roomba models work in the same way. If you read the information in the accompanying booklet you will note that it moves in a rather random fashion. Having said this we have found the Roomba 630 does an excellent job covering the whole room. Also, while all robot vacuums are known for not doing a great job on carpets, this model is great on carpets as well as our timber floors. With two cats and a dog we are always surprised at how much ‘Harry’ picks up. We change his ‘nappy’ quite often due to amount he vacuums up. I only do one room at a time. Our neighbour, has a different brand (and who paid three times as much) and it does laps rather than random but bought a Roomba 630 for their holiday home after seeing the great job Harry does. Hope this helps.

HI Sheryl
Julie, I couldn't have said this better myself. The Roomba 600 Series doesn't clean in a straight line but works off the surroundings to determine its path. So you are defiantly not doing anything wrong.

I don’t know about a signal/sound Patti, but I usually find ‘Harry’ - our Roomba - under a bed or stuck under another bit of furniture. I lock him in one room at a time so it easier to find him. I hope this helps. Julie

iRobot
Malcolm R.iRobot

HI Patti
Sadly this particular model doesn't have the added option to help locate it. I would probably be doing what Julie has recommend by checking under the beds or other pieces of furniture it can fit under. Mine in particular likes to lock itself in the toilet.
Sorry I am unable to help you further with one.

Roomba 600 Series

I bought a Roomba 600 a few months ago. It cleans well, but doesn’t seem to have a certain cleaning pattern. It goes until it hits an object, turns and goes until it encounters another one. Once the cleaning cycle is finished, it just keeps bouncing around in the bedroom until I go get it rather than returning to base. I have watched it do this. Why does it not just leave the room and return to base?

2 answers
Big Tree
Big Tree

The Roomba does not (IIRC) have a predictive or mapped cleaning pattern like the higher models. It does cover the whole floor and i think it maps the boundaries of the room to ensure it gets through it all. It also targets dirtier areas (where the blue lit "dirt" activates on the top)

If it has not returned to base then either:
1. It is not yet finished... my Roomba goes over the whole area a couple of times.
2. It might not be getting enough of a signal from the dock to make it home. Personally i never use the dock, i let it goes until it stops and gives its "finished" chime and then plug it in manually when i empty it

iRobot
Malcolm R.iRobot

Good Afternoon Pebz1967
Thank you for your question, and thank you Big Tree for your response.

This is correct the Roomba 630 does not have mapping as a function, it will use walls and furniture as a guide for moving around your home. However as it is not returning to base, it may be the base it stationed to far away that it cannot get back before its battery runs out. Leaving it to continue cleaning and it is flat.

Please contact our office directly on 1300 727 421 for further troubleshooting your Roomba 630.

Roomba 650

Hi, I just bought a second hand 650 recently and it didn't come with the AC adaptor. it has come with a power cable (the cable without the blackbox). I connected the home base with a power point using the power cable only and it seems charging ok however it's not flashing while charging. It flashes 20time or so and stop flashing. also, it doesn't go back to the home base when the battery is low. Would this be due to the missing AC adaptor?

Good Morning Andrew
My apologies for the delay in replying to your question. iRobot changed their changing stations approx 2 years ago remove the transformer. Now you should only have the Home Base and a cable. The light will flash for approx 4 seconds and than go out.
It is possible the Roomba is no longer returning the base because the contacts require cleaning. We recommend a pencil eraser or scotch brite sponge to get a thorough clean.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at [email protected] or on 1300 727 421.

1 answer

Malcolm R.iRobot

Good Morning Amber
Based on the information you have proved it is possible that your battery may need replacing. What I would suggest is, firstly opening the battery compartment of the Roomba and checking to see that the battery hasn't leaked in the time it was not in use. If all that is ok, remove the charging cable from the Home Base and plug this into the side of the Roomba (opposite to the side brush). Charge your Roomba for approx 3-4 hours. If you find you are still not getting anything, the battery is the issue.
