Robot Vacuum Cleaners Buying Guide
Our buying guide will explain which type of robot vacuum cleaner would suit you most, how much you can expect to pay for one, and which features are worth looking out for.
Awesome robot minion
Very happy with this - this is our first robot vacuum and it does very well on our pine floors and carpets. If you watch it the first run you can figure out things it will get stuck on (such as very thin cords or occasionally thin woven carpet edges), and remove these obstacles. Pretty impressed by how well it gets over some raised bits of the floor at room entries (as you get sometimes in queenslanders).

Great little beast
This works well on bare lino and seems to rarely get stuck anywhere.
I have a big area and it seems to cope well so far.
Not noisy. Picks up dirt ok but will probably struggle with full size bugs and humidity making everything sticky.
Instructions were deciphered by 80 year old so must be fairly user friendly.

Love it!
I think it’s the 630 model not 100%sure.
Anyway I love it! It was given to us from my brother in law. I put mine on everyday. We have a household of 5 including a toddler who’s in and out constantly so our white tiles get extremely messy! We also have a newborn so I don’t have time to vacuum daily so this is perfect. The read why I gave it 4 * was because the little brushes on the side have come off other than that it’s great!

Very disappointing
I discarded my old Roomba due to damaged wiring but thinking also it was time for a new one. This new Roomba is a total waste of $500 and I feel cheated. I wish I hadn’t thrown the old one out as even though it was several years old it did a much better clean than this new one which just now did not even go back to its dock. Even though there’s a clear path to the dock it told me to recharge it. I use it on tiles and carpet and it is only slightly better on the tiles. I have a black shedding dog and am near the beach so there’s plen...Read more
ty of sand and fur but just now on emptying it the bulk of the pick up was the top fluff off the new carpet. I’ve watched it consistently go over the top of dirt leaving it there. Sometimes it picks up a bit of dirt only to drop it further on. I’ve just wasted a good deal of money. I wish there could be a try before buy practice. it’s not right!!1 comment

I LOVE this thing
I work from home, but I work with dogs and I am outside for the majority of the day and I am very busy. I usually don't have the time or energy to do housework after work so the bare minimum gets done and the floors are definitely not part of that, the floors usually get left until the weekend. I have a four bedroom home with textured vinyl floorboards to the entry, living, dining, kitchen and hallway, tiles to the bathroom and carpet to bedrooms. It would take me approx 2 hours to vacuum and mop the whole house on a Satturday when I finally ha...Read more
ve some time to myself. I decided I was sick of spending my day off cleaning and spending so much time on the floors so I bought a Roomba 630 from Harvey Norman. It cost $497 during the sale they had on at the time. I must say I am absolutely stoked with the results. I had not vacuumed the floor with my Dyson for a week prior to purchasing the Roomba so it had a big job ahead of it, and it tackled it like a pro. It had to stop and recharge twice but during that time I took the bin and filter out and gave them a clean so it was fresh for the next run. It did the whole job with no issues and I am very happy. I finally had the motivation to vacuum with the Dyson last weekend (after Roomba had done 99% of the work for me!) and now I run Roomba every other day to maintain the floors for me. It does an excellent job on the hard floors and a spectacular job on the carpet (the vacuum lines are sooo satisfying) It does miss some small bits on the hard floors, but it IS a robot and can't be expected to vacuum like a human would. It generally runs for the whole two hours that the battery is supposed to last for, which is a good amount of time for it to get the whole house done and if it does miss something I just pick it up myself. The bin looks small but it holds a considerably large amount of dirt and dust. Every time I empty it (after each run or before I start it for a new run) I am surprised at the amount of dust and dirt it has collected even though the floors looked great before it started. I am very impressed with the capacity. Some people have complained that the unit is too loud, but I don't find it excessively loud. It's quite a lot quieter than my Dyson, and it is a vacuum after all so you can't expect it to be totally silent. If I run it at night while i'm in bed, I close the hallway door so it can't come down near the bedrooms and just let it take care of the living areas while we sleep and we can't hear it at all through the walls and doors.1 comment

Excellent cleaning, manages most carpets, does corners: my best household assistant
Efficient and effective for dust on floors and carpets that are not too thick. Can handle the top of stairs (doesn't fall) and gets into corners. I do go over corners again with a cloth, but for regular cleaning this is my favourite household assistant. We don't have pets so haven't tried it with dog or cat fur. Brilliant to keep dust allergies at bay.

We live in north Qld. so took it to our local Harvey Norman for repair after exhausting all possible fixes Evan online suggestions, they said it could be a battery problem and warranty had to go through Dubbo. We approached them and they said to get a new battery or send to Melbourne at a cost of $126 plus postage but offered no warranty. We bought a new battery for $142 delivered but did not work. Excellent robot vacuum!!
I have a one bedroom unit which makes this vacuum perfect as it can do it in one full charge. I haven’t had to manually vacuum since I got it 3 months ago. Reaches spaces I can’t easily (under bed and under tv unit). It is recommended to empty it a couple of times as it does pick up a lot and once full it will leave bits behind. Bit noisy but works so well that it doesn’t bother me! Highly recommended!

Very Good, a bit noisy
As the man in the house, its important to me that we have clean floors. We were sweeping usually twice per day because we have a dog that sheds and lots of small children. I was extremely skeptical about the robot vacuum cleaner, however it has now been 9 months since we got it and to be honest, we have only picked up the broom 3-4 times since we bought it. So I would call it a worthwhile purchase.
So far we have run it every day for at least 45 minutes. I have been throwing the little blue dust filters through the dishwasher rather than th...Read more
rowing them out. It hasn't required any other maintenance. I would be disappointed if it didn't last 3 years mind you, but I only thought I'd get 6 months! We have timber polished floors throughout. Negatives include... Noise - its too noisy, I have a friend with a cheap version he brought from China over the net, and its super quiet, and does the same job, so I'm not sure why Roomba haven't sorted this out. Scuffs the skirtings - Again, some other brands stop immediately before touching a surface, however Roomba lightly bumps the skirting before changing direction. After 9 months we're getting some marking and scuffs on the skirtings. If Roomba could sort out the noise and the scuffs mentioned above, I would gladly invest in the top model with memory and programming features.1 comment

Excellent for picking up Pet hair
Very happy with the 630 model, I have timber, carpet, and Vinyl floors the iRobot is great on all surfaces but struggles a little on a long shag pile mat .
Great for picking up dog hair, iRobot Roomba is more a sweeper so you cant replace your upright vacuum with this machine as it can only clean floors,
The 630 does not come with a remote control and I dont think it is necessary .

Excellent Entry Level Roomba 2017
This is the perfect entry level Roomba, it does dog and cat hair wonderfully it's also not too bad on shag pile rugs with getting the fur off them but does seem a little iffy on approach and sometimes avoids them but other times gets on them and away it goes.
Essentially you'll want a pretty straight forward area for it to clean, my house is open plan lounge, living, dining and kitchen which with it's size and the use of furniture to split up spaces can confuse this machine leaving one side of the room untouched.

Awesome addition to the family
I’ve had the iRobot Roomba for a few years now, and I still love it! We named him Frank, because he’s a little helper in the family. We have a largeish open plan house with hardwood floors. We have a big dog and two cats as well as 3 kids, so lots to clean up!
Frank does a great job if you let him do his work on his own. So I set him off before work and come home to nicely cleaned floors. Sometimes he gets lost, so doesn’t finish the job. And other times he gets stuck. But I think you can forgive all of that because the little guy is cleaning...Read more

Best robot vacuum cleaner
As a mum, vacuum floor is not a enjoyable work for me. Since I purchased this vacuum cleaner, my life is much easier that I could just turn on the button and let the machine complete flooring for me while I look after my baby. The machine can pick up small dust which is not visible clearly and keep floors clean all the time. I highly recommend this machine for any busy mums.

Partially getting the job done but couldn't ask for more
I bought this iRobot Roomba 630 from Harvey Norman for $504 including product care in June 2017, mainly because I thought I wouldn't have time to vacuum the house. it does get to a certain area of the house but it's limitation is definitely all the corners, under the dining table and carpet. Reasonable capacity and I wish there was a timer feature for this model, can't ask for more for this model. It can be quite noisy as well but that's how a vacuum like I guess.

Love it!
My partner purchased this for me before I had our son (via cesarean) I've found it to be quite efficient and does a very good job of vacuuming. It can be a little bit loud but I'll usually turn it on before I leave the house.
We have hard floors so I don't know that this would work so well on carpet. The suction is surprisingly good as long as you empty it prior to turning it on or straight after.
The Roomba isn't too bulky but I think it would work best in a minimalist house. I find it quite annoying when it bumps in to furniture so I often keep it only to our loungeroom.

Tony Buiasked
hi, I have IRobot Roomba 630. I've recently replaced the battery after that it only worked couples of time.
Then it suddenly said "charging error 1" when charging.
Can you please help me out with this issue, what does it means?
Regards
Tony
3 answers
Hi Tony, I would remove the battery and clean the internal contacts on the Robot as well as the battery terminals. Another potential issue could be the contacts on the charging unit and the robot, I would clean these also. Good luck
I already did them all but issue still
However when I borrow the battery from friend of mine, it’s working fine without issue.
I think there could be something wrong with my new battery. What do you reckon?
IXL H.iRobot
Hi Tony, charging error 1 indicates that your Roomba 630 is unable to detect the battery. This often occurs when using non-manufacturer approved replacement parts. Please visit our online store at https://www.irobot.com.au/ for purchase of official iRobot parts with guaranteed Roomba compatibility. If your product issue persists, please contact our customer service team on 1300 727 421 for further assistance.
Kind regards, iRobot
Pam V.asked
why does my rumba miss some of the rooms in my house now? it didn't use to. i clean filter and brushes every time i use it.
1 answer
IXL H.iRobot
Hi Pam,
Sorry to hear this. If your product is not speaking an error message, please try the following to resolve:
1. Reboot your product
2. Check your Roomba has sufficient battery to complete the room clean and return to the base. Your product may be too low on battery for this if the room is later in the cleaning cycle.
2. Ensure the room has adequate light for the robot to navigate. Dark rooms can be challenging for the iAdapt localization camera and can cause problems with navigation and coverage. Daylight or dim lighting is sufficient for Roomba to navigate effectively.
3. Wipe the clear window on the robot's top surface using a microfiber or soft cotton cloth that has been lightly dampened with water or a screen cleaning solution.
Please let us know if any of these steps resolved your question, or for further assistance contact our customer service team on 1300 727 421.
Kind regards, iRobot
