Avenger 25Plus AV25PSN (Natural Gas, Silver)

I have recently bought the Avenger 25 plus natural gas heater. However after using it for a month there seems to be a very strong carbon/kerosene type of smell. Could something be faulty? Please advice. Thanks Amutha

Rinnai A.Rinnai

Thanks for the question Ramesh. Usually this kind of smell indicates something in the environment where the heater is located has a strong odour. This smell runs through the heater over the heat exchanger which alters the smell. Things like strong cleaners, air fresheners, perfumed candles and paint can all have this effect.

To rid the heater of the smell you can run the heater at a high heat for 1 hour which will burn off what is on the heater. It is important to make sure the room is well ventilated before trying this, keeping a window open etc.

If you would like to discuss this further we have a technical help desk that can be reached on 1300 555 545 option 3.

Avenger 25Plus AV25PN (Natural Gas, White)

Our Rinnai Avenger 25 plus gas function had recently stopped working in the morning, only the electric function works. An error number of 18 displays on the machine. As the day progresses the gas works fine. Is there a reason this is happening and a way to fix it?

Rinnai A.Rinnai

Thanks for the question, error code 18 indicates the Thermocouple has failed to read the prescribed temperatures during the 1st eighty seconds of operation. If the unit is an LPG model we suggest checking the tanks and check air filters are clear. If this does not stop the error codes we would suggest a general service to inspect and diagnose the issue.

You press the up & down arrows simultaneously until you hear a beep. The lock button should go on. On the 25 it only stop turning it on though, not off i.e kids can still turn it off.

Hi Aimee, thanks for your question, an error code 60 on an Avenger means the electric element is open circuit. This will require a service call to fix.

The brochure has 2014 on it however we purchased it 2016. Can't find a date on the heater.

Thanks for the question Rach. On the heater there will be a silver sticker which has the model and serial number of the heater. The serial number will give you the month and year of manufacture of the unit. For warranty purposes we would use the purchase date as the first day of warranty.

Hi Anna, thanks for the question. It sounds like your child lock has been activated. To switch it off press the up and down arrow together for around 3-5 seconds. The 'lock' indicator should no longer be displayed and you will be able to use the heater as normal.

Yes, the heater must have the LPG kit fitted (by a professional service agent).

Thanks for the question Lisa, the previous poster is correct, the heater will require conversion to be able to use it on LPG. The kit can be ordered at any Rinnai stockist.

Hi Guys, my Avenger 25 (LPG) ignites and heats even when he set temp is LOWER than the room temperature. For example, set temp = 16 degrees and room temp = 19 degrees. When I turn the heater on, it ignites and blows out hot air. Is this correct and is there a simple explanation and solution? Many thanks

It has two heat levels, Lo and Hi. Set at 16 with room at 19 it will be on Lo.
Not sure, but when it is first turned on it seems to start up on Hi for a couple of minutes before cutting back to Lo.

Rinnai
Rinnai A.Rinnai

Thanks for the question RichardN, it will depend on the model of Avenger 25 heater you have and only the Avenger 25 plus is thermostatically controlled and will cut out when reaching temperature. If this is the model you have, a service call may be required.

We have just had to pull out the heater for the winter season....the difference between this yr and last is that we now have a walking toddler.
We have had to move gas outlets (to one that isn't easily accessible to little hands) and now it sits much closer to our lounge (only 50cm away) although saying this, our house is very open living. Just wondering if this is deemed safe? (It does sit behind the lounge)
Also whats the thoughts on gas emissions and a 13 month old? Safe???

2 answers

Eyes n Ears

Re outlet location: your gas fitter should have certified that the new outlet location, fitting and installation is compliant.
Re emissions: ALWAYS have appropriate ventilation. I rely on our DVS system providing a flow of fresh air and have window(s) open (1st catch, about 1-2cm) sufficient to allow air to exit the area.
Preference is definitely a flued heater if it is practical and affordable.
Unflued gas heaters still sell here, bottle and mains.
There are safety features: The Rinnai heater turns off if oxygen depleted levels are detected. You could install a gas detector.
If in doubt about an unflued gas heater, don't do it as it will always bug you.
The heater is fantastic, we are happy with it and recommend it. Much more effective than our heat pump.
Good luck.

Rinnai
Rinnai A.Rinnai

Thanks for the question Kelstar. There are a few things to be aware of when movig the location of the heater. We suggest the clearances around the heater should be at least 500mm surrounding the heater nd 750mm in front of the unit. If there is furniture too close to the front of the unit it will distrupt the airflow from the unit so may not heat the same area.

As mentioned above the unit does have a number of safety features including a Oxygen Depletion Safety Device, Tilt Switch and child lock. If you need further information about any of these devices please refer to the Customer Operation Manual which is available online at the Rinnai Australia website.

As with any gas heater, we recommend never leaving a small child unattended and never let anyone fall asleep right in front of the heater.

If you have any other concerns about the use of the heater we are happy to discuss further through our customer contact centre on 1300 555 545

Just purchased and it work's brilliantly, however the thermostat doesn't appear to be turning the heater off once the room temperature reaches the set temperature. For example, I had the set temp at 22 and even when the room temp reached 24 the heater was still blowing out hot air and a very low quiet rate. Any suggestions?

1 answer

Once the heater reaches the temperature you have set it to, it switches to LOW heat. But this is still quite a high heat output. If it gets too hot, even on the Low setting, we turn it off. Not great but we put up with it as the heater is so damned good.

you may need to add a ventilator at the lp gas fitting for the heater to work it will run on either lp gas or natural gas just check the fittings inside of the new area to be fitted
there should be a small round metal piece around 4 inches that is connected to a gas pipe some heaters come fitted always refer to the companies ownwrs manual or check with the company that supplied it

Thanks for the question Sark. We do have kits available to convert the gas type for the Avenger heaters, you can order the kit from your nearest Rinnai stockist, which you can find on our website www.Rinnai.com.au.

You will need a qualified gas plumber to complete the conversion.

I have heard that unflued gas heaters produce carbon monoxide and etc gas. Has anyone noticed any issue with air or breathing problems? No one in our home has asthma or any allergy just so you know before answering my question.

2 answers
Eyes n Ears

Natural combustion produces gases. In particular carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide that can affect your health. Other household sources are an open fire and gas cooking. Just make sure you have fresh air coming in to the room and don't use it in a bedroom or a small room with the door shut. It also produces moisture so if you have a condensation issue, an unflued gas heater may make it worse. The answer is ventilation.

Nick-P
Nick-P

Its true, but I have not noticed anything yet. I have been using it for 1 month and I run it on Auto mode at Night and Early Morning. It is required to put it in the living room or open spaced areas and keep some ventilation as per their guidelines. so that Fresh Oxygyn is getting replaced by any gas its producing and as per australian standard it should be ok to use with its producing very minimal Carbon Monoxide to cause breathing issues.

I have just bought a Rinnai Avenger 25 Plus - I have turned it on and the noise of the fan is very loud - does it turn off at some point?

2 answers

Thanks for the question Louise, the fan on the Avenger heater will run as long as the heater is switched on to ensure the heat is distributed through the room.

paul476
paul476

there is a switch to turn of the fan on the left side as well if it gets to the desired heat then it shall turn off the fan the real trouble with this style of heater is that they are loud and not that great at heating areas especially large rooms
the need to sit as close as possible for heat in large areas
if possible return and look for a better heating system
they are as mine the lower end of the heating scale

Hi, I have the Avenger 25. Does the fan ever stop running? Seems to be running even when it has reached the set temp. Am I able to order a new remote control? Thank you.

2 answers
paul476
paul476

the fan should stop when the desired heat is obtained
there is on some of the newer models an electronic control panel that allows for the fan to be switched off
the remote control is replaceable from a stockist contact the manufacturer
the versatile model remotes are not of much use with this model

Rinnai
Rinnai A.Rinnai

Thanks for the question Shelley, the Avenger 25 fan will keep running while the unit is switched on (and for a period of time after the unit is switched off to cool down the heater). A new remote can be ordered from any good plumbing supply or Rinnai stockist. Your nearest store can be found on the Rinnai Australia website or by calling our sales team on 1300 555 545. option 1.

you can blow the device out with compressed air this allows for dust that has accumulated during months sitting not being used to be removed and the device may be more beneficial ask the local plumber if they have a gas fitters ticket it generally costs around 25.00 dollars Australian for a check and blow

Thanks.

Habib, this heater is perfectly suitable to heat a space of this size. I used it in a house with a similar sized living area no problem at all. Kept us all very toasty in winter. I have the Avenger 25. Best regards

Thanks for your question Habib, the Avenger 25 plus heater should be sufficient for the area you are describing however there are heat loss factors that may need to be taken into consideration. We would recommend using the heater selector on the Rinnai Australia website to see all the options available. The selector can be found at http://www.rinnai.com.au/heating/heater-selector/. Hi, we have this heater for about 4 years. Every 12 months I dismantle the outer casing and remove the extra dust from inside the cavity. This year it still is showing the filter light flashing after cleaning cavity and both filters? Can it be the burner section?

1 answer
Rinnai
Rinnai A.Rinnai

Hi Luke and thanks for your question. If you have cleaned the filters for the unit and still have the filter light showing it may mean the heater needs a more thorough clean which can only be performed by a licensed gas heater technician. We do recommend having any gas heater cleaned and serviced every 2 years to ensure optimum safety and performance as also recommended by many gas regulating authorities.

What does error code 11 mean? Heater was working fine until kids pressed a few buttons now it trues to turn on cuts out and displays an 11 in the room window?

Mike
Mike

Google is your friend...

11 means no gas / failed to ignite

See page 23 of http://www.rinnai.com.au/media/748076/avenger_25_pl___capella_18_pl_operation_manual___oct14.pdf

Once you get it working again you might want to look at the child lock feature (page 20).

Rinnai
Rinnai A.Rinnai

Thanks for the question Kylie. As Mike has advised error 11 usually indicates failure to ignite. It is a safety feature that heater employs if it has tried to start and failed. If it continues to happen it's possible that the timer or temperature settings might have been altered. We have a technical help desk that might be able to help troubleshoot the issue.

Alternatively if the heater hasn't been cleaned or serviced recently this may be causing the ignition to fail. We do recommend having any gas appliance serviced every 2 years.
