Toasty
I love the heat and cost efficiency of this product. I would prefer to have a more modern looking version and am looking to upgrade for aesthetic reasons but this appliance has served my family well for 10 years. We have a large 4 bedroom house with high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows, which means we require heat efficiency. Electricity is too expensive and an open fireplace inconvenient. This is the perfect solution for a busy family.

Perfect for home
Ideal heater, works perfectly and easy to set the timer allowing for morning and evening heating times.
No problem with cleaning and heats a three bedroom home quite comfortably. Looks good and for the price a worthwhile option.
Had a bigger one in our last house, this one is perfectly adequate.

Just Awesome.
OMG our new heater is the best investment that we have bought for a long time, so cozy warm. I have 4 dogs and sometimes it is hard to get a spot in front of the heater, but really we don't need to because the whole room heats up. We put the timer on and it is nice and toasty warm when we come home on a blistery cold day, its so warm that sometimes we just sit there in a t shirt and shorts and it is still warm.

Cheap to run and reliable
We brought this heater to heat a large room and we haven't been disappointed. We live in a cold climate, but this heater is incredibly cheap to run and has not missed a beat. Only complaint I would have is that i've lost the remote control and I can't seem to get a replacement.

Brilliant!!
Living in the hills it gets pretty damn cold & our reverse cycle ducted air conditioner just couldn't cut it. We bought this LPG Rinnai heater which is unbelievable. Heats the house up no problem what so ever in a short time. Does use a fair bit of gas but costs the same if not a bit less than air conditioner but a much better result.

Thanks for your review Graham, it's great to hear the heater is giving you the extra heat you need without blowing the budget.
Its now been 2 years since purchasing this excellent heater. Does a great job providing instant heat & warmth to half of the house even when the temperature has dropped to minus 3 degrees. Can't praise this heater enough!!

Love this heater.
We have air con in our house but after adding another large room onto back of house the air con was not enough so after looking around and checking out as to go another air con unit or get a gas heater for the winter we found the Rinnai on display and was so happy with the way it pushed out the heat right across the room at a comfortable level. It is compact, quiet, and has an easy to use touch pad and was a bonus not to have to install a flue and also has a long lead so we can move it around if wanted. We are very happy with our purchase and find that it is cheaper to run than an air con.

The Best Invention Ever
After having a wood fire for years the purchase of this Gas Heater is amazing. Instant heat being fan forced warms the area fast. Living in the hills where winter gets to freezing the convenience of instant heat is wonderful. I also dry my clothes in front of it which is a bonus as there is no flame and safe for children with a child lock. The remote gives me the choice while watching TV to adjust the heat and turn off when going to bed. I highly recommend this heater as it is well worth the high cost that pays for itself in the long run. regards Ann

Fantastic heater
Have owned for 3 winters now and from first hand experience the Rinnai is a Great heater, reliable and easily heats the whole house. Timer programming is very user friendly, quite often set to start up 30min prior to the morning alarm and also use the auto off function so it is not left on through the night by accident. nice to wake up to a warm house in winter.
Only questionable thing is the price. One of those products that looks like it should be a lot cheeper than it is, once you use for a winter you seem to forget about the upfront cost.
Would recommend no problem.

Great Heater
I have had this gas heater for 5 years now and haven't had a single problem with it. I have a one bedroom split level apartment of 90 square meters and it heats the entire apartment up well. During winter I would have the heater on most days for about 7 to 8 hours. The cost to the gas bill increases about $150 over winter (4 months). Its not too big so isn't a eye sore. It doesn't give off a gas smell like some other heaters. I extremely happy with the Rinnai 25 and not disappointed I spent a bit more money for a better heater.

Great heater & exceptional heating!
Great heater with many functions. Versatile and quick to heat up larger areas. We run on economy mode & it gets the job done perfectly. It is sleek looking and efficient. This heater has been the best purchase of heating appliance for us. We struggled with electric element heaters. Rinnai is the one to get the job done.

Heats the Room well but smells of gas
I have had my heater for 2 years and it heats the area well but now gives off a strong gas smell which is nauseating and I have to turn it off. Has anyone else had the same problem and what have you done to fix it? At present I would rather be cold than have the strong smell of gas in the room.
Thanks

Funny name, great heater
One of the things that sticks in my mind from when I was a wee lad was my parents had an old 1970's Rinnai gas heater in their old 1970's house, the type where you had to turn a large knob and hold a lever down simultaneously to fire it up (whilst waiting about 20 seconds).
When I went looking for a heater for my family and house, I was surprised to see Rinnai still made them, but I knew straight away they'd be good pieces of gear. Some things don't change.
We bought the Rinnai "Avenger 25" which is a strange name for an appliance such as...Read more
a heater, but on first appearance looked like a quality unit with useful features and we weren't disappointed once we put it to use. It's fan forced, which is great if you're heating a large space, thermostatically controlled so it will shut down once the room reaches your pre-set temperature (just the fan I think?) and the heater has a built in tilt sensor so if you're a clumsy bastard like me and inclined to knock things over, it will shut off if it tips. The control panel also has a lock out feature as well if you have kiddywinks that like to push buttons... If I had to make a criticism, if only for the sake of making a criticism, it would be the appearance of the unit. It looks pretty...utilitarian. I'm sure appearance-wise it would fit right it at the Soviet tank corps, but as a household appliance it looks a little naff. But it's still not enough of a reason to not buy one, or at the very least, consider it when shopping for a heater. We've absolutely thrashed ours, but give it a kick in the guts and it still fires up as it did the very first day.1 comment

Hate it! Heats... and heats... and heats... and heats... utterly stupid design
"Not fully thermostatically controlled" - do NOT buy if you want full temperature control.
We bought this stupid thing to replace our 12 year old Bowin SLE2 which died and which we previously considered almost perfect. The heat output is a little lower but it still warms the place despite not having Plus option. The Control system is fairly simple, though the remote is too simple to be of real value. The over-ride option works well with the two timers, though we would have liked to have had a sleep option as well or instead - there are times...Read more
when you don't want to run all the way to the next timer. Having had the fire for over a week now, however, we have come to HATE it due to the most stupid design feature we have come across in years. You turn it on and set the temperature you want... and it in effect ignores it!! Sure, the fire goes on maximum fan and heat until it gets there but then it just lowers the output and fan speed and continues to pour out the heat whether it needs to or not, and the room gets hotter... and hotter... and hotter! It doesn't turn the flame off, no matter how hot the room gets, it just keeps on pouring out the heat and wasting your gas (actually, now I think of it, that could potentially be a fire risk I would have thought?). So you then have to turn off or override the timer or turn the whole thing off, there goes convenience out the window! What the he** is the point of that!?!? It clearly can detect the room temperature as it displays it and alters the fan speed and burner when it gets there; it can also start and stop the flame as it has automatic timers. So why would you do something so stupid as to put all the necessary components together then make this pig's ear out of them. Clearly Rinnai simply want anyone who wants full thermostatic control to fork out another $400+ in cash for a physically bigger unit, which has more to go wrong (gas and electric components) and uses far more electricity (more costly) rather than coming up with a decent, sensible design for this unit. We've had this thing for just ten days and already loathe it for its stupidity. How anyone could think this a sensible design is beyond me, the design team should hang their heads in shame. Sadly we're stuck with the thing for now until an alternative makes itself known to us. What I do know is that this is the first and last Rinnai product we'll EVER be buying and this thing will be on Gumtree as soon as an alternative can be sourced.3 comments

Can't regulate temperature
I'm very happy with my Avenger 25 NG, but I can't regulate the temperature. I currently have the setpoint at 21 degrees this morning, but the heater has continued to shoot up to 25 degrees and it is unbearably warm. Is this meant to be thermostatically controlled? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the question Knights Fan, the Avenger 25 heater is not thermostatically controlled so will not shut down when the temperature set is reached, this is a feature on the Avenger 25 plus.
Well I didn't ask enough questions of the salesperson, nor did they highlight this important fact. Can the controller be retrofitted?

Love this heater! Heats up the whole house
Absolutely love this heater.. I have a large open plan house and it heats it up in no time at all. There is a hint of a gas smell... but I actually don't think its as bad as people say.... or at least mine wasn't. The gas obviously works better than the electric part.

Noisy fan
Bought this heater 4 days ago it heats up the whole house fast, but the only problem is the fan is very noisy, I have it on gas mode and it does not slow down, is there another setting I can use so the speed of the fan will lower down? Orher than that the heater is good.

Complaint
I brought a Rinnai Avengar 25 Plus Gas heater. The Gas smell is disgusting. We cant breath an it goes throughout the whole house. This was burning my child's eyes and we couldn't breath properly. The Gas smell drifted all into the bedrooms and throughout the house. I opened up all doors and windows and couldn't get rid of the smell. I would never recommend this heater. I will be calling Rinnai to complain.

Without heat again
Heater is one year old and needs its fourth repair. Works for a short period after each repair before emitting a stench that makes it unusable. Suffering through our second cold snap without heat. Trying to get it replaced for the last week. It's freezing and my family is cold. When it goes on the blink it seems to use high levels of gas (which is probably what's filling the house), costing me extra on refills, not to mention the added cost of using little electric heaters to try and stay warm while waiting on repair. Wouldn't buy one again.

I have a Rinnai Convector 516TR - the predecessor to the Avenger 25
Do these models have the same jet sizing? I'm asking as I cant track down a conversion kit (NG to LPG) for the 516TR and was hoping the Avenger internals are the same and I could use a conversion kit for the Avenger on my 516TR
