Hi, we have many customers who use our device for sleep apnea. Some use it in conjunction with their cpap device and some use it instead of a cpap.

Can the salt particles get through filter in cpap?

John Morrison
John Morrison

It may not work through Cpap. It would depend on what sort of filtering it does to the air.
However, you could use it elsewhere before bed to help your lungs.
For example, as you sit and watch TV, have it set up to blow the salt air across you.
I have no idea how bad your situation is but it may help to reduce the need for the Cpap.

Good Luck

HI I have a Vaporiser and an oil diffuser but like this idea - do I need to buy another product or can I use salt in my vaporiser?? what is the difference?

1 answer
Salin Plus
Barry C.Salin Plus

The Salin Plus would replace both your products and you will achieve a better result for managing your symptoms. You cannot use them all together as the steam would damage the salt filter. You also cannot put salt into your vaporiser and even if you could, it would not have the same effect.

I made it myself from the old power supply. It should be 9 to 12 volts and about half an amper. It's a cheap korean engine, no great requirements and no electronics. I do not know why it's so expensive. I also made a switch for switching on and off

How do I know when to replace filter??

3 answers
Salin Plus
Barry C.Salin Plus

Hi Jean, you cannot tell by looking at the filter apart from a dust build up at the back of the filter. The reason you need to change it after 4 to 6 months of continuous use, is that after that period of time, the device is not able to break off more micro particles and put them into the air to breathe, therefore there is no longer any therapeutic benefit. The performance degrades over time and the advise is that after 6 months there is no longer a health benefit. The filter will always remain full of salt particles but you cannot breathe in the large particles, they need to be sub 5 micron.

Hi Jean - I always replace my filter after 4 months of continuous use, taking account of any period when I was away on holidays, I find this the most effective way of utilising the benefits of the machine.

Cheers, Peter Hill

Thank you for your reply. I have mine over a year but use it only intermittently when kids are sick with colds /flu which is thankfully not often.

I’ve got the saline plus for about 12 months. However I’ve noticed in the last few weeks the fan turns on and off intermittently. Any reason why this should happen? If the filter needs changing would that be a reason why it’s happening?

1 answer

Barry C.Salin Plus

Hi Helen, it's nothing to do with the filter. Have you registered your warranty? I think it's a faulty connection with your power adapter. You need to contact us directly via phone or email us at [email protected].

Hi there,I have never experienced water anywhere around the device I have. The filter is just compacted salt and should not produce any water.Rember that it is an electrical device and therefore you should be careful around water.i would take the whole device with your receipt back to the shop and ask for a replacement

You can use Salin Plus in humid environments so long as your room is well insulated from the moisture outside. Avoid leaving your windows open when the humidity levels are high. Use a hygrometer to measure the relative Humidity level, try to keep it around 50 to 60%.

We do not recommend using Salin Plus in a damp room, as the salt filter absorbs the moisture in the air. You would be amazed how much moisture is in the air when the room is damp. If the filter absorbs this moisture, it acts like a sponge and ultimately can leak the water it has absorbed. The filter is much more effective when it is dry.

Having sold over 30,000 devices all across Australia in our first 4 years, we have seen this filter issue in around 1% of cases, typically in parts of Queensland where it can get very humid at certain times of the year. It comes down to the level of moisture in your home, which will vary depending on the structure of the home, and type of ventilation and air conditioning used.

If your home uses an evaporative air conditioner which emits moisture into the air that can cause moisture issues for the Salin Plus filter, whereas other types of air conditioners help to dry out the room and therefore help reduce the risk of any moisture issues.

The best way to protect your filter, is to remove the moisture from the air, and the best way to do this is with a dehumidifier. There are many different brands on the market to chose from. They are popular as they help reduce dust mite activity and mold spores which also effect respiratory conditions and no one likes a damp home.

Hi I have been using the saline therapy for a week now as I have bad asthma and my husband has really bad sinus problems. We haven't felt any benefit from it yet. How long does it take to start to help. And is it better to have your room window shut when using it? thankyou

Its better, in my experience to have the bedroom window closed. I started my salt therapy for enphysema at a Salts of the earth centre, this is a closed room where the salt is blown in, and each treatment is for 45 mins. I felt the benefits immediately. After several sessions I was able to exercise more and lose weight. However, the centre was 5 hours round trip away on public transport, so I started to look into in home treatment, this is when I found the Salin unit. I have now purchased the larger unit and I found this a great benefit. The smaller unit I taken on holiday with me.
