Suggest that the comment is in violation of publishing standards somehow. i suggest you ring Product Review as they would have rejected it not SCTI. It is also likely that a machine makes the decision and not a person.

Hi John.H,

Thanks for your question.

If you were admitted to hospital we would ask you to call our emergency assistance team who are available 24/7. They will let you know if you should pay for the costs and claim for reimbursement or if they will pay the hospital directly.

Hi Alyssa,

Thank you for your question.

Our TravelCare policy is designed to cover leisure-based travel. This means that we wouldn’t cover you while you were working and you wouldn’t be covered for loss of income. I understand this may have not been the answer you were hoping for.

All the best,

Hi Yarra36, I’m very sorry to hear that your mother is ill – our condolences go out to yourself and your family. Our TravelCare policy offers cover for cancellation or alteration of your trip if due to an unexpected event you are unable to travel. This means if an immediate family member of a policy holder was to pass away unexpectedly before they were due to travel, there would be provision to cover their cancellation or alteration costs. If you have any more questions or would like to discuss this further, please give us a call on 1800 196 484 or email us at [email protected].

I was wondering if your company covers pre existing conditions a my husband has had aortic valve replaced 2 years ago & has a pacemaker. His heart specialist seems to think he I ok to travel & we only see him in another 12 months. I have taken out travel insurance with another company but wondered you cover this can we pay an extra for this condition. We were recommended to you by a friend who uses you for their travels & her husband has a heart condition. Thanking you in anticipation of an early reply. Yours sincerely LMG

Hi LM Newcastle, to determine whether we could cover your husbands pre-existing condition, we would need you to first complete a medical assessment online. To do this you will need to go through the quote process on our website www.scti.com.au where you will be asked to complete a medical assessment (you can do this without having to purchase a policy). If you have any questions or concerns feel free to give us a call on 1800 196 484 or email us at [email protected]. All the best, Pepper@SCTI.

Jenny96asked

I am intending to purchases your policy but I have a concern. In your PDS it states that:
If all or part of any valid claim is covered by another source, including any travel, sickness, accident, health, or income protection insurance policies, banks and/or credit card providers, or you are eligible to receive any refunds, credits, rebates or discounts, then you must provide us with those details and we will only pay or reimburse the difference. If you can claim against anyone else, you must claim against them first before we will consider covering the difference. This condition does not apply to Section D6 Personal accident.
I will qualify for cover with my complimentary credit card Travel Insurance and contacted them regard this statement. They stated that as part of every claim they ask if there is other cover and where one has been purchased they consider that as the primary cover that must be used first. I do not want to be stuck in some legal stoush between two companies. What happens in this situation.

Hi Petronella,

Apologies for the delay in responding to your question. At the moment, Mount Agung is still erupting and an alert level 3 remains in place. This means there is no cover for any events relating directly or indirectly to this volcano. Our underwriting team have published the following information about this on our website here:

Hi STCI
I saw my GP in October about possible High BP after some readings of 150-160/80-90. Following tests it became clear that the issue was with my job (secondary school teacher) as when I was on a day off my hourly readings were 120/80 and completely normal. He stated that I was NOT hypertensive and I do not have any medication or future follow up. Should I declare this as a “pre existing medical condition” because tests were done by my GP in October following the high readings?

Hi. I want to know why a pre existing condition is not covered? I had a liver transplant 13 years ago and have since been as healthy as a the day I was born. My specialists always say I'm right for 4 months. I have traveled overseas on a few occasions and find travel insurance a bit of a con. You are happy to take customers money, but have all these "we won't pay out on this and that " type all through your pds. I really don't know why you are in business, only to rip people off. There needs to be royal commission into travel insurance. Thanks, I've got that off my chest!

They must settle all accounts direct. All hospitals we used were chosen by SCTI. We have been home just on a month and no accounts have come to us. I was in 3 hospitals across South America, and air lifted with a medical team X3 times, and initial transfer was X3 different modes of transport, all coordinated by SCTI. Again no accounts. My wife lodged receipts from the stay outside of what SCTI had paid for accommodation, and that also was refunded, eg taxis to and from hotel to hospital to support me. They have been great.

Hi Kathleen,

Thank you for your question.

If you had to visit a hospital overseas due to an unexpected event, you or someone acting on your behalf must contact our Emergency Assistance team as soon as possible.

They'll be able to review your claim, organise emergency evacuation if necessary, provide the hospital with a payment guarantee so you don’t have to pay up-front (subject to you meeting the terms and conditions of your policy), and keep your family back home informed of your situation.

If you would like to discuss this in more detail, you're welcome to give us a call on 1800 196 484 or email us at [email protected]. We would be more than happy to help.

Hi. I am travelling to Costa Rica next year. What are your conditions regarding missed connections. Is there a specified transit time you need to have before it is covered for missed connections? Also does it matter if the flights are on a different ticket? Look forward to hearing from you.

Margaret

1 answer
Southern Cross Travel Insurance
Southern Cross T.Southern Cross Travel Insurance

Hi Margaret,

Thank you for your questions. Please find answers to these below:

1. What are your conditions regarding missed connections?
If you miss a connection due to an unexpected event, and you're delayed overseas for more than 12 hours, we'll pay or reimburse you for either your additional costs OR any unused prepaid costs. You can find the conditions of cover on page 19 of our policy wording under the heading 'Travel interruption'.

2. Is there a specified transit time you need to have before it is covered for missed connections?
We ask that you allow a reasonable amount of time between flights to ensure you can make the connection but there is no specific time. We recommend you check with your airline to get a recommendation on how much time to allow between flights.

3. Does it matter if the flights are on a different ticket?
No. It's worth noting that if you do miss a flight, you'll need to submit a claim through your airline in the first instance, as they may be able to offer you a refund or credit note.

If you would like to discuss this in more detail, you're welcome to give us a call on 1800 196 484 or email us at [email protected]. We would be more than happy to help.

Hi Jim, A couple of things to consider. Travel insurance covers more than just medical so having reciprocal health cover might not be a full reason to not take out cover. Also reciprocal health cover is basic cover only (bit like Medicare). I would check carefully that you are covered for recreational accidents (i.e. skiing injury).
