My mother (85 years) and i are booked on a majestic Yangtze tour. I'm just reading the itinerary and im concerned that with all the walking, some days, 4 or .5 hours, will be too much for her. Am i able to get a rickshaw for her? What is it that you can get an electric cart to the terracotta warrior musuem but not one back to the bus car park?

I didn't go to the Yangtze so am not able to answer your question about rickshaws. Some older people on my trip did find the walking time difficult and some didn't do the day's activities but chose to stay in the hotel for the day

Hi Erica we have just returned from magnificent Yangtze tour.had a great time but the walking and steps are very daunting didn’t see any rickshaws but there were motor bikes you could get a ride on. Unless your mother is very fit she may have difficulty with all the steps to climb especially to some of the pagodas. Hope this helps

Hi
We're hoping to travel to China in 2022 but no experience of Wendy Wu tours, we're thinking of either the Wonders of China or the 22 day tour (sorry can't remember the name of this tour) would like to hear from anyone who has been on these trips, advice about dates to avoid would be useful. thanks Jan

Hi Jan, My husband and I chose Wendy Wu for our trip to China in 2015. Our tour was "Wonders of China" - 16 days, medium-paced. We travelled from mid-September to early-October, and the weather was perfect. We couldn't fault any aspect of the tour. Supplied notes answered our preparation questions, our main guide was superb, as were the extra, local guides. Food was excellent and we appreciated having all meals included. Having admission charges included was also very useful. We did go to a few extra shows that we paid for but they were amazing and worth every cent. One of these was the Liu San Jie Impression Light Show in Yangshuo, performed on the Li River, almost entirely on rafts. I'd love to return with all my grandchildren to share this show with them!!! We loved our 5 nights on the Yangtze River cruise - so much so that we are looking for another Wendy Wu Asian river cruise right now. Cherry (of Douglas)

Hi, just got back last week from( Magnificent China 22 days), March 31st - April 24th, weather mostly 20's couple 30's, can't recommend this highly enough, good comfortable pace, couple early starts due to catching planes, however, loved this tour, been on many other tours around the world, this is my favourite, had an absolutely brilliant guide,
( Britney / Ru ), amazing young lady home town, Xian. saw, did, heaps, covered everything I wanted to do. we had a major 3 day public holiday about 3 - 6 April, made some sites congested, but China has 1.5 billion, hard not to be. China was beyond my expectations.

Dear Eve,

Thanks for your question!

For our group tour itineraries that include the Sapa overnight rail we will use the local Chapa express or King express trains.
For our Sapa independent itineraries, we will also use the Chapa Express and King Express however if we book our Deluxe 5 star option, we will use the Victoria Train.

For more information on our tours and itineraries including Sapa please feel free to contact our Reservations department on 1300 727 998 or alternatively you can email [email protected].

Certainly our experience with Wendy Wu in China was exceptionally well arranged in accommodation and food standards ;I am led to believe that their Japan standard is similar in both aspects .

Have not done the tour to which you refer BUT,have just returned from Wendy Wu's 13/14 day Shanghai to Beijing (with 4 days on the Yangtze River cruise included) visiting Chengdu, Xian's classic attractions as well as those of Beijing (incl the Great Wall )....excellent guide/s ; fairly priced and two free days accommodation in HK on the way home . Our regard for the whole Wendy Wu operation is very high, as a result ...we used them on recommendation of experienced traveller friends and were not disappointed .

Hi Sue, We have just returned from "China The Big One". We were so pleased that we chose this tour as it showed more of China in the time that we were there. Being such a big country with different minorities having their own languages and cultural differences was so interesting to see. We enjoyed our free time but also did all the optional tours which were all excellent. Go with a sense of humor and expect the unexpected, China far exceeded my expectations.

Hi Belinda, l am not sure what weather you may experience but l went in May/June and we took all weather gear and l used most including my brollie. This was good as when it rained it served its intended purpose as well as a sun shade in some hot places like Bejing. All l can say is pack for all occasions and wash your stuff along the way. One other thing, l found walking poles to be very useful (not mentioned) as there are so many hills, steps and they wrre mostly uneven, going down steep inclines that are wet from mist, rain or slippery from moss growth was an added help. Enjoy the trip, its awsome

Thank you. The uneven surfaces were not mentioned in the brochure and my husband has some mobility issues so we will definitely go prepared.

Can recommend Eaton Hotel in Mongkok, on Nathan Road. Loads of buses to harbour and Star Ferry, and up to the new territories.
We always book through British Airways for the best prices, you can do this even if not flying with them.

Ring Wendy Wu direct and ask. They can probably cater for special diets. It is not an uncommon thing these days.

Riverdell

Thanks for your response to my question.
But unfortunately "probably cater for special diets " shows me of the lack of knowledge on the topic, such as Coeliac Disease, and shows the lack of training Wendy Wu spokesperson has. The answer to my extremely serious question is nearly laughable if it was not serious.
What other fundamental information pertaining to Africa is flawed ?

Dear Riverdell,

Thank you for your enquiry.

Our South African Trails is a new tour with the first departure due to depart at the end of the year.

We can most certainly cater to dietary requirements and we encourage anyone with allergies to inform our reservation team at the time of enquiry so we may discuss this further with you.

Please feel free to email us at [email protected], or call us on 1300 727 998.

We're going on the Wonders of China in April. Apart from comfortable shoes/trainers, what kind of clothes do you recommend at this time of the year? I gather there are regular laundry opportunities.

We went in November when the weather is getting cold. April the weather is nice at around 20c . Don't make the same mistake as we did and pack too much. all hotels have laundry services. Most of the hotels we found had a clothesline in the laundry. Have a great trip. We are planning another trip with Wendy Wu next April. Love to hear how the weather was.

Hi everyone, We are doing the majestic Yangtze tour & are wondering if someone could give us a guide as to how much spending money we should take. We have never done a guided tour before. We aren't big drinkers but would like to buy some souvenirs/keepsakes from the trip for family. Thanks in advance

2 answers

hi shazzam, the exchange rate to the aus dollar is approx. about 4.5 times at the moment; pretty good! souvenirs are pretty cheap, wendywu guides will advise.$1000 on the travel card in aus dollars is a good way to go.have a great trip,

Jo and Carl
Jo and Carl

If you want to buy coffee be prepared to pay a lot for it. Soft drinks at dinner time are about $2.50 aussie dollars. Water is cheap. You can buy snacks at the local store quite cheaply. As for souvenirs you can spend as much or as little as you want. Side trips are about $60.00 aus per person, there is only one in each city. They are worth going to. The exchange rates at hotels are very good, so don't worry if you think you don't have enough. We spent about $2000 aus dollars for all the souvenirs drinks and extra trips. That was for two of us, so around $500 per week. A word of advice if you see something you want get it while you can. You don't always see it again, there is the chance you will and it will be cheaper, that is part of the fun of China. Have fun.

Hi Bev, we did the 14 day China with Wendy Wu, we crossed paths with the 21 dayers frequently!! As I recall we did 3 or 4 optionals......the acrobats and opera, Kung fu show.....boy, were they fab! Didn't do a extra thing off the boat....had a million steps and it was hot....would've killed me!! There are quite a few steps on this trip...the extras were prob btw $50-$70 each....I did most of them I think...for the 21 I guess $400 would more than cover it. You'll have a wonderful time...it's pretty full on and busy every day....but the accom is great, cool and lovely for the weary travelers to return too. Any other questions email me....ill drag out my diary!! [email protected] Cheers Jan Holmes
