Recently I am appointing 8 home for my home construction and I already feeling terrible as I am only in the process of completing the paper work. The admin person just too unprofessional. She is a slow email replyer when I ask her questions some time she just did not even reply at all as I need to repeatedly send her the same email to get the answers. I feel that whatever they say or premise through the phone is always different to what in the paper work. I really want the paper work on track but really with the lady working attitude I just can not stand it any more.
I made an complain to the 8 home customer service and hopefully they will treat it seriously. Should I still trust 8 home?

Have heard 8 homes is about to go bankrupt or burbank who owns them are going to close both 8 homes and urban edge. Anyone else heard similar stories??
7 answers
Hi Chris, No, I have not heard any such rumor . As far as I know, Urban Edge owns 8Homes, not Burbank. cheers, Nicole
Hi Chris, To my surprise I have just looked this up on the net, and found that Urban Edge and 8Homes have "joined forces with Burbank. Your question was the first I heard of this. Here is a link to the article. I hope this is helpful. https://www.burbank.com.au/victoria/news-details/228 Cheers Nicole
Lily S.Eight Homes
Hi Chris,
Thank you for your enquiry. I can assure you that our partnership with Burbank has not changed operations at Eight and Urbanedge Homes. Contrary to what you have heard we’re not ‘bankrupt/closing’ and its business as usual here at Eight Homes and Urbanedge Homes. I hope this answers you question and please don’t hesitate to contact us should you have any further questions.

Does all eight homes have the same colour board to pick? I'll sincerely admit that the interior designer did an amazing job but just wish there were more colour choice to choose from as I know that we were offered only three colour choice which include one colour upgrade and two standard just to free buyers from the stress cause I don't want to stress myself to book for a colour appointment .
1 answer
Lily S.Eight Homes
Thank you for the enquiry. For an easy and seamless process we offer our clients the option of three colour schemes to choose from. We make it easy for you! However, you do have the opportunity to make minor changes if you would like to make amendments to your home. Your customer service specialist can explain this further, alternatively you can send through your details to [email protected] and we’ll happily provide further information.

Hi, please anyone let me know what standard facade is and is that the facade seen on display homes?
3 answers
Hey there,
From my understanding the homes we saw did not have the standard facade, the consultant that you are working with should be able to show you a picture of the standard facade which is also nice, we chose a different facade which was really not that expensive to upgrade too. The consultant can show you the range of different facades and prices as well, we found them very helpful, hope this helps.
Lee
Thanks Lee.
Lily S.Eight Homes
Hi Tit,
Thank you for your enquiry. As Lee mentioned, we have a selection of standard facades to choose from and your consultant will happily provide further information.
Please don't hesitate to contact us should you have any other questions.

Carmenasked
Hi can anybody help. We want to use wooden floor but why do they have to use that small half circle wooden board on the outside of the skirting board. Has anyone had this problem? They say it is too hold the floor down. Other houses dont have it. Why cant the skirting board hold it down, thats what we want.
3 answers
Hey Carmen,
saw your question and as a owner of an eight homes house with floor boards i thought i would let you know that when our house was getting built, the skirting was done before the floorboards. The skirting is actually bigger then what you see with the floor boards so before our boards were down it was the skirting first which sits on our slab and then the boards came after which is why those half circle skirting join the boards and skirting together.
Thank you for the reply it helps alot on the process on why couldn't be done.
This is common practice in the building trade. I also agree it would look far better to lay the flooring then install the skirting boards as you would not need the additional quad trim. My educated guess is that its easier i.e cheaper for them to do it this way.

Can anyone, who has built with Eight Homes, please let me know if we need to pay the deposit before even seeing the inital cost? Forget about finalising the quote, even if this is a marketing strategy, its real bad on customer experience.

Hi there
My partner and I have gone through 8 homes, and no deposit needed till you find a price and plan your happy with then when your happy you put down the $888. Then you will have another appointment to make any changes and then the second deposit of $1000 is required and then thats when its locked in.
Hope this helps
Thanks Michelle for your response. I thought the same as all the builders have same approach. However, my sales agent is asking me to deposit initial amount only then she will discuss the plan and quote with me. Certaintly, not the kind of service I am after. Anyways, I am going to say no to her and will go with some other builder.
G'day,
It depends on what you mean and expect as a initial cost.
Basic and vague figures are probably the best you'll get.
Everyone's initial costs will vary according to numerous build project attributes.
Sounds like there was an initial misunderstanding.
As it is to be expected, no builder is really going to be able to provide you with specific & accurate info until you are prepared to make a commitment to proceed with the processes required to do so.
Things like lot attributes, covenants, soil conditions would constitute initial costs.
The finer details follow afterwards.
It's only in your best interests really.
Hope that helps.

hi guys, anyone has built D-eight with them?

Hi everyone I want know about 8homes how they are ? Because I am think too build my home with them 2 floor
3 answers
Think very carefully.
Get EVERYTHING in writing.
Get an independent building inspector.
Do not believe promises unless incorporated into contract
Thanks for your reply but did u build with them
I've built with Burbank, Henley and now 8-Homes. They are the best of the three in many facets of the home building process. I also high;ly recommend an independant inspector. In saying this, my 8-Homes site supervisor has been fantastic in both liaising with the inspector and rectifying any defects found. Good luck!

Hi there, Is anyone building with Eight homes of their D SEVEN house? I supposed to sign the contract within few days. Please reply with your positive or negative answers as soon as possible. This is the first time I am building in my life and bit worried of the decision when reading others comment on building process with all builders. I don't know which builder is the best or cheapest as I have no idea. Every builder says they the best in town. I am a single mum with children. Working hard to get a roof over our head. Please post your answer soon. Thanks guys.

I completely understand your caution and it is right to ask questions. I’m signing my contract this week for my 2nd home with them, My 2nd home to be built by 8Homes is a D7 the same as you. I am trusting them with my Superannuation Investment so I have been very careful. I built an S4.1 as my first home with 8Homes - very happy. I had experiences with other builders but by far, this is the best experience I have had in home building. The contract process is quite daunting but at least they are completely open and the staff do explain it well. I am happy to make a positive review for 8Homes.
Thank you very much Raymond. I really appreciate your reply.
Hi @reymond what is the quality of 8 homes like from your experience? Many other companies who are claiming they are great use sub standard brands and eight homes seem to use better appliances etc and materials but I'm wondering what their workmanship is like? Surely they can't be that great in price and good quality without something being compensated?? It seems too good to be true but from the verified purchasers on these reviews it seems ok so far. What do you think?
Newtothisasked
Hi, has anyone had issues of cracked bricks with their homes built by 8homes? They haven't turned over the house to us but we've already noticed there's a lot of cracked bricks around outside wall. Is this something that we should be concerned about? I hope this is just cosmetic issue that 8homes can easily fix and not structural. Thanks!

Hi Newtothis,
The Eight Homes Customer Service team would be more than happy to talk you through this. Please contact Rosemary on 8398 1100 to discuss further.
Thanks,
The Eight Homes Team
I'm a carpenter and the bricks are always cosmetic except in the garage, the weight of the roof is running down the timber stud walls into the footings, in the garage generally the weight is running through the bricks. The cracks are a very bad sign if it's on the garage walls. If not don't let them just patch the mortar. Ask them to render all the bricks down that side or something. That will be cheaper for them rather than having the bricks pulled down. Probably didn't mix the mortar right, cheaper out on cement or something

Anyone recently building with eight homes?? Anyone having any trouble or delays in their construction build???
1 answer
Yes I do. I am building a house with 8Homes in Cranbourne East Vic (lot no 1641, 27 Fabale Way, Huntclub, Cranbourne East, VIC ). As per our Contract, after start the construction, 214 days ( including all delays) we have to get our new home. My building construction started May 7th 2014. Today 25th of November 2014. As per Contract they have to hand over the house on December 4th 2014. It is a double story house, and they did not fix even the staircase till now. When I signed the contract, they promise that within 6 - 8 months, you will get your dream home.(From the sales dept, they said you will get it 4-6 months). So I am very disappoint now. I have to change my kids to school to there. They are not giving a sure date for that.
Sasha Naikasked
If you are constructing on a block is it your usual practice to dump your construction waste on the neighbor's vacant block? Do you not charge your clients in the construction package of their homes the fees to dispose the construction waste?
3 answers
I believe this is included in the site costs. It is illegal for a builder to dump rubbish anywhere other than in the skip onsite, and they can be fined by the local council if reported. we had the next door builder dump concrete on our land prior to us starting to build. I reported them to council. Hope this helps
Your builder should be getting rid of any construction waste and not taking the easy option of dumping it next door.
